While I was in Maine, I wanted to travel to the northern portion along the Canadian border. Hotels are few and far between where I was looking to go, so I found this Inn on TA (all excellent reviews). The price was AMAZING (only $85.23 for Oct. 11, 2013), so I made my reservation. When I arrived, I was in love. It is a beautiful, 100-year-old home that is filled with so much charm and warmth. It had these gorgeous hardwood floors and was decorated with cool antiques like old phonographs and, of course, old irons. You look around at all these beautiful things as if you were in a museum. The house is very welcoming - like your own home would be, only better! The Innkeepers, Kate and Kevin, are exactly what you would expect of people who live in Maine; they were nice, and friendly, and beautiful, and were very interesting to talk to. When I was led upstairs to my room, I could not believe my eyes (right away, I realized I had made a mistake in only staying for one night). I wanted to live there forever. My room had a big, queen bed, and there was a twin bed on the other side of the room. There was a private bathroom (all the rooms have private bathrooms for spoiled Americans such as myself). The bathroom was very spacious with wonderful, fluffy towels and a nice shower (no tub, just shower).The room was beautifully decorated with more antiques. I loved everything from the furniture, to the glass doorknobs to the windows! When I crawled into that bed at night, I could have sworn that those delicious sheets had been ironed; I have never experienced such comfortable bedding! My room and bathroom were immaculately clean, as was the rest of the Inn. On the second floor (where all the rooms were) there was a little sitting area with a frig and books and other things you might find yourself needing. It's a nice little area to just go in and curl up with a book. The next morning I woke up to the aroma of the most amazing breakfast. There were other guests there too, and everybody sat at a big table and talked and enjoyed this marvelous breakfast that had been prepared for us by Kate. She uses real china, and real coffee cups! There were muffins, any kind of cereal, wonderful scrambled eggs, toast with jam, coffee, a big variety of teas, etc. - you definitely do not come away hungry. It was such a lovely experience. I live in a very fast-paced city where it is hard to find nice people There's too much traffic, too many people, too much trash, too much of everything. When I visit a town like Caribou and meet people from other walks of life, I am enchanted. Visiting this wonderful town, and staying in this Inn makes me want to move to Caribou and live like they do; it made me see life from a different perspective. Unfortunately, my time was up and I had to leave. If I ever find myself in the northern-most area of Maine again, I will most definitely stay here again; but, next time, I will stay much longer - if they will have me. I loved the innkeepers and their beautiful, warm home. Can you tell I loved it?! p.s. There is good free wi-fi and plenty of free parking. No TVs in the rooms, but you won't want one.

TOO NOISY Booked a…read moreroom in advance for a layover sleep on our way from Ottawa to Nova Scotia. If you're in need of a good nights rest I suggest you request a top floor room as the floors are not carpeted and there is absolutely no sound barrier. After an hour of listening to what seamed like a football game going on in the room upstairs, I tried calling the front desk and realized they had a phone but no outlet to plug it into so I went down. One of the ladies at the front desk went up to talk to them but it went on for another 90 minutes. My husband went down to see if they could change our room and was told it wasn't possible and that they couldn't say anything to them until after 11 pm so I went up myself. The man in the room was very apologetic, he didn't realize it was that noisy and the banging abruptly stopped. It was quite evident that nobody at the front desk bothered to do a courtesy knock on their door. The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired, eggs were watery and tasteless and the bacon almost seemed deep fried. I was confused with the tip jar on the counter, I served myself, got my own coffee and cleaned my own table off. Gratuity is for service and there wasn't much of that here. I am quite aware that it is a hotel and there will be noise, doors slamming, the odd kid screaming, etc. but we paid 300 dollars for a good nights sleep and I expected better.

During my second stay, there were some rude guys staying who hung out on the balcony and walked back and forth past my room. They were drinking beer and smoking and were quite obnoxious. However, I managed to still have a nice visit. The first visit was really low season and it was great-nice and quiet. The place gets really busy apparently for snowmobile season. They had a lot of English muffins and donuts for breakfast. However, they were hit or miss. The English muffins were will past expiration date and were probably frozen until they put them out. Donuts were okay to stale. Perhaps, this changes when they are super busy. I'd prefer less selection and fresh items instead. Coffee was okay though I preferred to make it with the Keurig by the desk rather than the pot left out for breakfast. Friendly staff. Location is great except if lots of cars are going by...then enjoying the balcony isn't pleasant. You can see the lake from the balcony.

Pool looks great (we did not go as it was busy and did not want to intrude). Breakfast was continental with hot eggs, sausages, ham, and potato flat things (name escapes me at the moment), and has two waffle makers. Second floor pass through to the restaurant/casino (bring your hotel room key because you will not get back in if you do not have it). Awesome coffee machine at the exit. Room design is great. Two types of blinds. Beds comfy. Pillows soft. Toilet, and shower/get ready area, separate in the room. The bad: Carpet design is not great. Staff at breakfast was a little rude though. Only two carriages for luggage. This is a " pit stop " hotel for longer travellers. But it is a nice one. Restaurant is good and casino, although small, is nice also. Worth the stop.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner who welcomed us and showed us up to our room. This suite was very spacious and quite reasonable given the nature of the room. We were offered cocktails in the lounge and showed around. They have a lovely library with a selection of french and english books with a computer for guests to use if required. Self serve coffee is available in the dining room at any time. For breakfast we were served wonderful french toast with fresh fruit. We had a bit of time to kill so I took advantage of the front porch to make a few calls and enjoy a coffee. There is also a quaint boutique on the lower level of the inn where some great clothing and gifts can be foudn. This is a great spot and offers a whole new level of accommodations in Edmundston. Wether you're here on business or for a vacation, I highly recommend staying here.
