The initial appointment is almost impossible to get but I'm not sure they have a fair way to make it any better. The need just GREATLY outweighs the supply. If they were keeping a waiting list I'd most likely still be waiting. We need national health care for real. I will say the doctors are often rushed off their feet so when somebody like me comes in with an A1c of 7 after 2 unmedicated years, they don't really have a lot of time for me. They have a lot sicker patients with a lot fewer resources who need their time more. I'm on disability so coming here for me is mostly a question of "who will take my medicaid without charging me extra". I will note that the dispensary on the first floor has ONE employee on the desk who always seems to be there when I go in, and he ROUTINELY hides my meds. I'm not kidding. He won't put my name on the monitor and he won't tell me when my meds are ready for pickup. Other people come and go and he ALWAYS leaves me sitting there. I have NEVER had any sort of argument with this guy, he just targets me for reasons that are unclear and doubtless totally random. Once I sat there for 2 hours, he went away and someone else came on and the FIRST THING the new person did was notice my medication and call my name. It had apparently been sitting there for over an hour. Last time he dispensed only ONE MONTH'S worth of my medication when it was written for 3 months, then he refused to correct it and told me I would just have to pay extra to get the other 2 months. It costs more to get it one month at a time. He told me it would take an hour or two to correct the way he had dispensed it. It was 5 PM and I had already been sitting there for over an hour so I just took it and left. So because there is this one weirdo who always seems to be on duty whenever I need to pick up my meds, I don't get them there any more. He gets zero stars, but since EVERYBODY ELSE there seems normal, I'm excluding him from my rating. In general my experience here has been that they are overburdened, but the doctor I have dealt with, while rushed, at least gets me the meds I need (thyroid and diabetes) without arguing with me (last doc I went to for thyroid meds tried to force me to change them). There is a review here from a mother who was just shit on by her kid's doctor. 105 is a dangerously high fever and any doc who suggests otherwise is a dangerously stupid doctor. So you might want to avoid that guy assuming he's still there. Personally I just need somebody to give me prescriptions for the totally non-recreational meds I need without charging me $200 for the office visit. As for "ethnic" issues, y'all need to stop being freakin' bigots. I guess a lot of the people there may be Hispanic, I didn't count and barely notice that kind of thing anyway. I am DEFINITELY NOT Hispanic, I have a clearly non-Hispanic name, and being or not being Hispanic has never ever even remotely been an issue. The one jackass there in the pharmacy seems like an average chubby white guy to me. He could be Hispanic, who knows. Whatever ethnic background anybody there might hail from, it's never been an issue or even noticeable - unless you're a bigot who assumes all brown people MUST be HIspanic or Latino or A Dirty Mexican or some other stupidity. Nobody's being discriminated against there because they're not Hispanic/Latino/a. There's a big difference between being discriminated AGAINST and not getting the preferential treatment you think you deserve for being born a paleskin. Get over it. read more

I am very disappointed with the service today, Friday, August 7. I called the pharmacy before coming, and the employee told me they closed at 5:00 PM. However, when I arrived, the doors were already locked about 5 minutes early. There were only a couple of people outside waiting to pick up their medications. I spoke with an employee, and he told me they close 5 minutes early. This is unacceptable. I drove 20 minutes to pick up my medication based on the hours provided. If your hours are until 5:00 PM, they should be respected. If you actually close at 4:55 PM, then the posted hours need to be changed. I will be coming in on Monday to discuss this issue because patients should not waste their time and travel based on incorrect information. read more

I was shocked and deeply disturbed by something that happened during a recent visit with Dr. Chelsea Travers at Northern Nevada HOPES. During a routine checkup, she asked my 4-year-old child,"Are you a boy, a girl, or somewhere in between?" -- completely unprompted and without any prior discussion with me as the parent. This question is entirely inappropriate for a child that young. At four years old, children are still learning basic concepts about themselves. Introducing such a complex and sensitive topic without context, consent, or parental involvement shows a serious lapse in professional judgment. It is not the role of a pediatrician to initiate these kinds of conversations with toddlers. This was confusing for my child and deeply upsetting to me. I left the appointment feeling blindsided, disrespected, and angry. Parents need to trust that their children will receive developmentally appropriate care -- and that doctors will work with families, not around them. Unfortunately, this experience destroyed that trust for me. I will not be returning and strongly urge others to ask questions before choosing this provider. read more

The lack of bedside manners and level of unprofessionalism from the receptionist at this location is abysmal. It's unfortunate since it undercuts the mission and great doctors that work past the front of house staff. An overhaul is necessary going forward with improvements on onboarding and progress in temperament when working with clients. Two stars is generous. I followed Jordan Foreman here and wish I could have stayed but had to find another doctor because the other doctors and office couldn't help me when I needed it most. I was in and out of the ER with extreme stomach pain, I was told I couldn't see my doctor and needed to see someone else. I told her they thought it was my gallbladder. The doctor told me to stop eating and do yoga because I was fat. Her words exactly were "You know we can go a really long time without eating." Thanks. She tried McBurney's point, but again I am fat so it didn't register as bad. And then the office scheduled me for an ultrasound 4 months out, incredibly unhelpful. I ended up having surgery with a private office once I was lucky enough to get private insurance. My gallbladder had stones and chronic inflammation and cholesterol deposits. I threw up so much I developed a hernia. I suffered for months because when I needed it most, my primary care doctor couldn't help me, and the doctor they sent me to didn't believe me. I waited more than a year to get with a psychiatrist and therapist. And almost wrapping up my year with my psychiatrist I get told he was no longer going to work there (back in November maybe) I wasn't even given resources to find another one, just simply had a last appointment with him that was it. My primary is at another clinic and the OTHER clinic NOT hopes gave me a list of people I could find in the area that take my insurance. Just a total nightmare, there's never anyone on the 3rd floor you have to check in at the floor below. The Medical assistant was apparently the medical assistant for more than one doctor and she never answered the phone and was super rude. read more

. I have been receiving great care at Northern Nevada Hope's for a bunch of years. The office staff is always helpful and kind. The pharmacy is quick and professional. The lab staff are gentle and have always only poked me one time. That's important to me. The medical staff listen to their clients. They truly care about my health. They communicate with each other, especially if they have concerns about their clients. This includes the mental health crew. When I had a crisis, medical called them and they were there for me imediently. The counseling I received was very helpful. Hopes is a one stop for everything. I encountered a rude person who talked over me and would not listen, which caused me unnecessary phone transfers and extended wait periods. I did not have Tod's HOPES card on me at this time. I, too, work with a stressful population, but there is absolutely no reason for impatience or rudeness. Enrolled here for counseling on terrible things that happened to me as a child that many decades later I am only beginning to face. They said there was a waiting list, so I checked again on status after 3 months. "We lost your paperwork, submit it again." There was some very sensitive personal data on those sheets. Where could they have gone? They were submitted in hard copy at the location. During a medical appt, NP said she'd send a counselor in to talk with me to get the ball rolling. But then, "Oh, I'm sorry, she's in a meeting. She'll call you" No call ever came. Meanwhile, resubmitted intensive paperwork. Three months later I'm calling to ask status. "We lost your paperwork." As if that weren't bad enough, my NP was often testy. Not fair to be snapped at when asking questions about treatment. I moved on. read more

I've been a patient at Hopes for several years. I'll keep the name of my doctor private. My complaint is this facility will put a patient in harm instead of prescribing a medication. I had an appointment a couple days Ago, I have a terrible infection, actually I have 3 or 4 of them. I called a few day before my appointment to get an antibiotic prescribed to me, so they could start working before I saw my doctor. I've had these before, she knows I've had them, but do you think she could trust me, an over 65 year old woman who knows her body better than anyone, and has had this problem several times?? Heck NO. SHE had to see to see to evaluate. Why couldn't she trust me? I've been w her 6 or 7 years. So I go in and of course she won't give me anything. thinks my body will fight them off. I wake up this morning to a huge abscess on my thigh, it was coming out when she saw it. Also 2 more coming out, and had 2 ozzing when I saw her. She took a sample of the yuck, and then wasn't going to cover it with a bandage. Unbelievable, I insist, and 3 hours later the stuff has soaked the bandage, and a ton of yuck drains out of it. She obviously knows little about abscesses, I'm sure she is good at other things. So in the meantime, I'm stuck going to an ER, or lancing this on my own. Both very inconvenient for me, when I was right there and she did nothing. In pain, can hardly walk, and very angry at Hopes. I don't dare send photos of it, it's so red and angry looking. read more

Please be advised they will tell you they offer a sliding scale, and that even if you don't qualify, your max payment will be $50.00. Then they will send you a bill for $129.43. Also, if you're looking for behavioral health testing for minors DON'T GO HERE. They will schedule an appointment with a pediatrician, and tell you it is a psychologist. My son and I met with the physician twice, under the impression she was going to be evaluating him. He missed school twice, she had us take assessment forms to the school, she had my husband and I do assessments, and then said "I'm just a pediatrician so I can't even diagnose him." I was furious. On top of it, she kept saying "I just moved here and don't know enough to refer you to the right place or how to help you. I also don't know how to call the schools, or where we keep the forms, so I'll have someone mail them" That was in September, we've still received no forms. I'm so bummed at this whole thing. We had to wait three months to get in with another doctor, and are just now starting all of the testing. Had Hopes been honest 5 months ago and told me they were scheduling us with a pediatrician I would not have done it. My son has a pediatrician who is phenomenal, why would I want a new sub par pediatrician who isn't even familiar with forms, locations, schools, or humans? When I inquired about the billing they basically said "too bad so sad," and I'm paying more than I ever wanted for zero services, and zero help. Run far away from here. Update: After three phone calls about the billing, and the care we received (one payment made), the office just called me to say after discussing it with the manager they are going to write off my bill, and refund my payment. I definitely appreciate that, but I still don't I recommend them for ADHD testing, unless you don't have your own pediatrician and need to go through this process to find a doctor. read more

I came in extremely distressed because my OraQuick HIV home testing kit showed a false positive result, thinking I definitely got it. Rosy walked me through the steps and did the test for me, throughout the process I was extremely shaken and nervous, it was almost a breakdown, Rosy was being super supportive to me, answered all my questions and then some more, tried to comfort me. 20 minutes later, she said " You are NEGATIVE!" At the moment I bursted into tears, I asked her to repeat the result twice for me, she did just that with a smile, I let go all the pent up sad energy in front of her, and she gave me my time for that, and told me if I ever needed the hiv test just came in here every 3 months or so, do not use the OraQuick anymore it tends to have false positive result due to various reasons. Go find Rosy, she's a sweet warm hearted lady with clam but professional manner. read more

This place offered a lot, I trusted them, and they let me down from every angle and wasted a ton of my time. One year in, no help with diagnosing a chronic condition that causes me constant pain and fatigue. Gave up trying to convince the doctor my symptoms are real, gave up trying to get help. They dodged me at a time I needed them, didn't listen to me about my symptoms, and I ended up in the hospital. I've been on the wait list for a psychiatrist and therapist for a year, nothing has come of it yet every time I fill out the same lazy depression survey they act like they want to send me to an inpatient facility (like that would help.) They said they would give me a grant to help me buy clothes and this has not happened. Someone contacted me about that and sent an encrypted email I couldn't access and that's it. I've had a prescription on hold at the pharmacy for 8+ months, my main prescription they can't even get my insurance to cover. I have been suffering for years and getting progressively worse, this place lied and said they could help with many things. They have done nothing but allowed me to get worse with time. It's a mess. Worst healthcare experience of my life. Don't waste your time. read more

As far as I'm concerned they don't get a star at all but you have to leave a star to write a review so they get one. There is no point in going there because there is no follow through.. i'm not sure if there's one good doctor there... there may be one but I haven't seen them yet. and they always are canceling your appointment and then you have to see a new doctor and the new doctor doesn't know anything that's going on with you and they order bloodwork and you can never get the answers for your blood work until months later. The place is ridiculous so if you're feeling ill or sick you might as well self diagnose at home and Google it !! you'll get more information and help from that. While I can relate only my own personal experience, I have read all the reviews herein and find all the negative ones quite biased and somewhat bigoted. First, my own take: I read very carefully all the notes, disclaimers, etc., about when to phone. I did so and yes, it does take time and luck. Took me twice, the second time being the charm and I had a next day appointment. The phone intake person, David, was surprised that I had actually downloaded, filled out and printed all the proper intake forms. "No one ever does that," he told me. Saves about an hour of sitting in the waiting room, pen in hand. I arrived early, and since all my paperwork was done, I was seen about 30 minutes earlier than my scheduled appointment. Juan, the in-person intake, was honest with me that it was his third day. He was helpful, courteous and respectful. What more is there? Anna, the medical assistant, showed to the exam room and took BP and spoke with me about what I felt I needed during my initial visit. She left and about 3 minutes later, Dr. C. McConnell entered, introduced himself and started asking questions while typing. He was straightforward, focused and pleasant, also courteous. He was thorough, made a physical exam of my complaints and best of all, he listened. Before leaving he made an appointment for a future visit and scheduled several tests unilaterally, which was a great relief, as I had not thought to do so. He prescribed medications, inquired as to my pharmacy of choice and told me to wait a few minutes to see a specialist, something I had not anticipated, as I had been told that it would take up to 2 weeks for that. Dr. McConnell did it all in one visit. The specialist arrived and we spoke for about 20 minutes. It was a tense conversation, and not at all because of any perceived slights or discourtesy. This was a discussion about health, my health, and we bandied issues back and forth, which is healthy in a thoughtful talk. I was at NNHOPES for about 2 1/2 hours and it was a great weight lifted from me, that I was able to enter the into the system and have made available good solid medical care. Now, as to the online criticism made on this site: I would be hard-pressed to think of a place in the lower 48 which is devoid of any ethnic communities, unless we are talking about Beverly Hills or some elitist affluent all-white gated enclave. Yes, there are Hispanic persons living in the U.S.A. Yes, they are human. And yes, they, too, need medical attention. NNHOPES is a beacon for many who cannot afford private insurance. So yes, many people here, patients and staff, speak Spanish. Some even speak Chinese. And all speak English. As for reviews which state that if you do not Spanish, staff are rude, nonsense. I am not Hispanic. I spoke English. No one was rude. In fact, everyone with whom I came into contact was Hispanic-American and they were all Courteous and Respectful. All. Complaining about someone's else's culture doe not necessarily make one a bigot. However, reality is what it is. Which means if you do not like something, do not partake or patronize it, be it a business, or anything else. Many people speak Spanish. I do, and I am ethnically nowhere near Spain. On the way home, I hit an Asian restaurant for lunch. Neither of the two servers spoke English, which meant a lot of menu-pointing. Am I upset? Lunch is not life or death, it's more important than that. And no, I am not upset. I ate what I wanted and was full and happy. Lastly, to revisit the initial intake process: the new patient webpage clearly lays out when to call and all the other parameters. so, once again, if this is not to someone's liking, find another provider. I recommend HOPES to everyone I know. They are amazing as far as aesthetics and cleanliness. They are amazing price wise to the community. There are some WONDERFUL providers and staff. So why "one star"? I am trying to get a medicine (non narcotic) from the pharmacy and they need a doctor to OKAY or REFILL it. This also is normal stuff right? I've been getting my anti seizure medicine from here for a good five plus years. It's just NOT happening! I still haven't gotten the refill. Then there is DR G. She was the only psych doctor and was in the office at first. I could still somewhat see her/get care and prescriptions. I liked her at first. The pandemic hit and she was POOF GONE! She started working remote and only on certain days. Okay, we will work with this, right? She continued to write my scripts just fine so no foul play. Maybe? Then the CANCELLATIONS started. In addition to it being impossible to "see" her throughout phone appointment now once you even got as far as an appointment it would be canceled last minute. I'm trying to get my anti seizure med and her assistant says to me combatively "you haven't seen the doctor in over a year". The last three appointments were canceled by the "doctor"! I just need a refill so I'm not at risk of SJ Syndrome or seizure or worse! I have been calling since 5/23 to be met with brick walls. My time is ticking. I'm trying to get an appointment with the new psych provider (there's now 2!) however the doctors share an assistant who refuses to set an appointment for me to see the new doctor. My disdain for the first provider trickled down to the medical assistant refusing to schedule an appointment for me because I shouted at her about them canceling on me and refusing to refill this very important life saving medicine. I'm looking at probably another WEEK. It's scary and dangerous. read more

HOPES Clinic is one of the absolute BEST places to go to fo healthcare in the Northern Nevada area and I highly recommend them, especially Dr. Alissa Rivara, M.D, as she is extremely skilled as a medical provider and she always goes the extra mile to help her patients. My entire family are patients of hers, and she is the only healthcare provider that we truly trust. HOPES goes above and beyond for their patients, and they even accept Medicaid and provide care for those less fortunate as well as do fundraising to get their patients funding for much needed medical care. I went in for medical assistance which i was NEVER given. They took xrays etc and REFUSE to give me my results. I paid for services that were never given to me, requested adjustment for my meds and none was ever given to me. I have been requesting my medical records for months and they REFUSE to give them to me or my new provider. They REFUSED to refill and lower my thyroid meds which in turn turned into AFIB! DO NOT GO HERE THEY WILL TRY AN KILL YOU LIKE THEY DID TO ME. The provider I was seeing said I never requested my thyroid medication AT ALL in face she stated I never requested any medication! This is the WORST facility I have ever entered, they charged me for services I never received and think NOTHING of it! read more
