I purchased a NEW self propelled lawn mower from the Newbern Ave Raleigh. The mower was 500 plus tax. The first time I used the mower was a couple days after I bought it. The mower kept trying to turn off and the self propel feature is not working. The only way to find out these things didn't work was to put gas and oil in it to use it. When I went to the store to see about warranty or return, I was told that since I put gas and oil in it that it can not be returned. And if I pay them up front to diagnose it would cost me $60. And I would have to pay for anything they find that the manufacture warranty wouldn't pay for. I am currently waiting on the district manager to respond. At this point I no longer wish to do business with them. This is not how you treat customers. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Today was an absolutely terrible experience! I presented my paper receipt to return a pressure washer I bought for commercial use that was not designed for it. The cashier Hassan was rude, loud, and very nasty. He told me several times that my item was not eligible for return until I read the back of my receipt out loud. He then proceeded to yell at me in front of other customers and angrily continued to ask why I wanted to return it. He needs to be fired. I'm sure this is not the first complaint about him and his lack of customer service. read more

lower than a one star would be more appropriate, we shopped around for an air compressor and found a North Star 60gal, for $549.99, we paid for up front,then went to the back and backed up by the instructions given by the lady that helped us make our purchase, The individual that came out to load us was rude and had an attitude problem, when asked what his name, he said "Josh" when mentioned that we would speak to the manager about his service, he said," I am the manager", that explains why so very few customers. we noticed the unit was missing the whole pressure cage switch, so went back in traded out for display, last unit in stock, no discount was offered, even after we told them that it looked like it messed with. Got it to the truck to load and took cap off, the switch was broken, spent over an hour in this place for nothing! We got our cash back and went to Lowe's! read more

Updating my opinion on this store. I've revisited quite a few times since my below par experience in 2011. Today, a lady named Carmen went out of her way to help me try to find shoes for my massive feet. She checked the overstock location (top shelf), other nearby stores, online inventory, etc. She did this without me pressing for assistance. She was extremely friendly and completely understood my budget. The store manager was fun to talk to as well. Last but certainly not least, the Gentleman that has assisted me many times at the checkout counter scored a 5 out of 5 with me. He's quick, he's friendly and doesn't stress under pressure with tons of impatient customers rushing checkout all together. He's management material from what I've seen. FYI, my original experience here was horrible but they have won me back as a regular. read more

Cheap imported tools. Pretty good selection with a lot of trailer stuff and electrical components. Better pricing (but not brands) than Lowes or Home Depot but not as good as the selection you find in their main competitor Harbor Freight Tools. read more

This store is like Harbor Freight. While other similar area stores are good, this NT store seemed to offer a bit more variety (e.g. different trailers you can tow behind your vehicle or yard tractor. read more

Good stuff, decent prices, our shop buys from them all the time.

Recently stopped in to see their selection of wood burning stoves. Store associate was very helpful and even ran out to our car to catch us and give us the printed out information for the stove we were interested in. Went back the next day to make our purchase and everyone we interacted with was helpful. Can't wait to get our new stove installed and running, especially with all the below freezing weather we've had! read more

I have now had 3 very poor experiences; reasons: out of advertised stock, un-knowledgable front staff, rude management. Bad.

With an approaching hurricane, I went deep inland in search of a generator. I found one at Northern Tool in east Raleigh. Tabitha was Great! She was busy but I was patient. She actually took the time to walk to the back of the shop to place her hands on the generator and to confirm it was the brand/model I wanted. She accepted my credit card over the phone & agreed to hold it for pickup by a friend. I would recommend them. read more

Northern has a huge online catalog that doesn't get enough attention and respect. Their stores however carry very limited types of products and have low inventory levels. While they have some genuinely industrial grade material there, they also sell some pretty cheesy items like Husky air compressors that work for a few months and then break. At the New Bern store they have a real good guy doing pressure washer repairs if you need that, but in general the knowledge level of the people in the store is as low as it gets. They can't tell you the difference between a file and a rasp. read more
