This is a strange mall. It competes with the other [better] Chattanooga mall, Hamilton Place. There is just not a lot happening here. Burlington, Old Navy, Ulta, and Belk are hardly enough anchor stores to keep you interested. The feel of the Burlington store inside seems cheap and discount store-ish, but maybe that's just me. There is a fairly large play area for the kids but no food court. Also added recently is a 'Carmike's' 14-screen movie theater, which is probably the biggest draw for others, but doesn't interest me. The real thing of interest at this mall are the many restaurants located outside the mall, and along the perimeter. You'll find: - Arby's - Chick-fil-A - Chili's - Panda Express - Panera Bread - Outback - Aubrey's - Old Chicago Pizza But even with those mostly fast food chain restaurants, I just don't see the value of going back. read more

I really like the atmosphere here now compared to the other mall in Chattanooga. It's not crowded, and it has a nice calm feel here that I like. Of course I miss Sears and really wish another big store would move in there but with all the great stuff around it, this is really a better area to eat and shop than Gunbarrel Rd. read more

If you're looking for an alternative to Hamilton Place then Northgate Mall is the place. We don't get here often but when we do we really enjoy it. Back before the Christmas holiday (2018), my family and I went to Chattanooga and decided to go to the mall but we didn't want to fight the crowd at Hamilton Place so we came to Northgate. The mall is small but has just enough to keep you busy for a few hours. Give it a try, I think you'll be happy with your decision. And stop by Colony 13 and the Medal of Honor Museum while you're at it. read more

The mall is small, but has many of the stores you would expect to find at a mall. There is ample parking and you can easily fina a spot without a lot of walking. This mall came in handy for our little ones trick or treating while on the road. This was one of the only malls that had trick or treating on Halloween . We had searched for more than an hour to find one on our rout. read more

We enjoy this mall each time we visit. It is comfortable, convenient, and less crowded than the bigger mall and offers enough stores to meet our needs. It's always clean and feels like being home while shopping. read more

There really weren't any stores in this mall that thrilled me. I loved the comic store and the arcade (nostalgia) but the stores themselves were pretty average for every mall. Some stores were even closed which was surprising for 2pm on Sunday. I think they need to turn the AC on a tad more, I felt overheated and had no interest in visiting the second half of the mall. read more

Bath and Body Works, Victoria Secret, Gap, Sears and more. One story Mall, seniors love to get walk it, and play cards or just visit in the common area. Easy to Park. When you don't wnat to spend the whole day at a Mall. Get in and get out. Get just what you need. Then eat at Chili's, Applebees, or Outback, or Red Lobster close by. You'll also find Chuckee Cheese. Just opened America's Thrift Store similar to a Goodwill carries new and used item including furniture a huge discounts. Need good used books and music at a discount? Then head on over to Grumpy's Used Books. Northgate Mall is just the right size for a Suburban Community. I rarely cross the river to shop at Hamilton Place Mall. There's a site on the web featuring 'dead malls'. (Wow, what a terrible opening line for a review!) And, it's depressing to read through the lists, for my former company was responsible for facility maintenance for several that are on that list. Northgate pretty well mirrors the fate of mid-level malls, and the overall retail condition of of blue collar shopping in America. Meaning: If itz not up-scale, itz no-scale! Being from this area (read my Chattanooga review), I remember when the mall property was an expansive corn-field, overseen by a large, wood-framed farm house. Northgate opened with great fanfare, an answer and an upgrade to the open-air Eastgate Mall, which was an upscale, then-modern answer to what was the Highland Plaza 'shopping center' located at Highland Terrace & Hixson Pike. The location suffered from a lack of easy access from day one, and although featuring the usual anchor-stores, never really caught-on, and was therefore totally susceptible to the perceived upscale of Hamilton Place Mall, with its numerous access points, level terrain, and high visibility afforded along I-75. What fate awaits Northgate Mall? I doubt it will suffer demolition, as some dead malls have suffered. It has a viable location, and through careful out-parcelling of the spacious parking area just might allow the parcell to become a satellite shopping area. As it is, Northgate might have a future. It would be a shame to have lost that bottomland corn field for nothing! read more

The 3 star rating is for the memories. When I was much younger this mall was pretty nice, but I recently revisited and it is, as they say, "deader than a doornail". My sentimental side wants to give this a 5 star rating, thinking of all the shopping trips taken here with my grandmother, the perusing of the bookstore within, endless pairs of shoes from Payless, swooning over the stock in Colony 13, and grabbing a truly delicious coffee from Barnie's (Northgate, you really screwed up when you took Barnie's away). Now it is literally dead whenever you come through, whether that be a weekday or weekend...everyone is opting to drive a little ways out to Hamilton Place. So long and thanks for the memories, Northgate. I guess if it's poor weather and you fancy a walk it makes for an entertaining walking space. read more

Victoria Secrets is probably one of my favorite places to shop until I came into this store. For starters no one greeted me or asked me if they could help me. I wandered around searching for a fitting room when I finally came across a manger, she opened the room- nothing more nothing less. When I went to exchange some panties I had gotten, they didn't have the style or color I wanted. She told me the best she could do is give me 2 dollars a pantie! I died! Since when would 5- for 26 panties come to 2 something a pair. Not only are the associates and managers rude but the store is downright dark and dirty! By far the worst customer experience I've ever had! I will not be back! read more

This mall in no way deserves five stars, and it sure as hell has not deserved more than 3 over the past 5-8 years. This mall is sad. Sure, the outer parcels might be the better draw, but for awhile they were the saddest thing, and really? It's a bunch of mediocre, suburban chains. You can drive not even half a mile away and find tastier, even locally-owned options for food. Finally now the old location of the movie theatre is being renovated and new stores are coming in, but this has definitely in no way been a great mall for years. Hopefully it is on the turnaround. There's been plenty of growth up 153, so I guess maybe it's time to return here. Inside the actual mall is very sad. Since you likely won't need to spend more than a couple hours here, don't even bother with the food court. Chick-Fil-A, not even in the food court, is probably the only thing that seems safe enough to eat in here. On a Saturday, this place is absolutely dead. If you can find what you want in this mall, then that's perfect. It's weird to me to walk into a Bath and Body Works and be the ONLY customer. Really that, Penneys, and the Hallmark shop are all I've ever gone to in here anymore. And thankfully they finally renovated that poor Penneys. I'm pretty disappointed as I was hoping to get a haircut while I was here but neither option inside the mall felt trustworthy. Kind of a bummer. So while it's nice if you just want to get in and out, it sucks for the greatest mall activity of them all: people watching. There's nobody to watch. read more

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK... The outside of this mall can be very deceptive because it is old and worn. HOWEVER, the inside of this mall is telling an entirely different story. The mall is in a great location right off of Highway 135 and walking distance from my hotel. (No silly, I didn't walk over there). It's primary anchors are Sears and Belk and you can tell that they have been around for a while. Additional stores are varied and include shoe stores, specialty shops, cell phone providers, accessories stores. There is a huge play area for kids, plenty of seating and a very open floor plan. Everything is laid out on one floor which makes it perfect for just walking around for exercise or people watching. It does not have a food court but does have a Chik-Fil-A and an Applebee's. There are also plenty of eating options outside of the mall. A National Medal of Honor Museum is located in this mall and offers a great break from the expected. Next to the museum, is a family friendly bathroom which is really nice because the other option is located down a long isolated hallway. When visiting this mall, you must drive the perimeter so that you don't miss the additional stores, restaurants and movie theater. I was really impressed and definitely recommend anyone to stop by for an unexpected surprise. read more

If you like nostalgia or cruising by empty stores this is the place. Noone here but retired " mall walkers" until 3 PM. With the closing of Sears, it's virtually a ghost town. Belk Dept. Store is so minimally staffed, good luck finding a cashier. Besides a small crowd in front of Chick-Fil-A (no food court either) the mall stays empty. Pros: the only decent chain restaurants in Hixson are in the parking lot. read more

I didn't want to give 3 Star rating, but honesty is Always the best policy. This mall has always been fantastic. The perfect size smaller mall surrounded by separate craft stores and mini mall complexes. In Recent years a big company took over and pushed out the many local vendors and replaced them with big name outlets. The mall still thrives and is kept VERY CLEAN. It's layout is nice where you can enter one end and do a full circle including all floors within a few hours and do price research. They have your typical shopping and a fantastic Hallmark gold crown store. Chick-fil-A is the only place to get "real " food inside, but they are surrounded by restaurants like Red lobster and Panera bread. There are many stores like Old Navy and CM gaming that are typically in the mall, but you have to enter and exit them through a separate outside entry. Restrooms are fresh and well maintained. read more

This is a great mall, worth a little extra drive if you are wanting something that isn't as busy as other malls in the area.

All in all it's a mall. Saw a security guard here and there. And the little kiosks in the middle of the isle asking if I would like to try stuff out. (Those silly massage stands kinda freak me out). Lol. But the the floors were clean and it wasn't too crowded. Multiple stores to choose from. Personally like Victoria secret, Justice, Belks and Hot topic. Oh and chick-fil-a. I have been to this mall a few times over the years. It is a mid-size mall with the stores you would expect. I was here on Black Friday and was able to visit a few of my target stores (Gymboree, Children's Place, Belk, JCPenny, Hallmark) but missed a lot (Disney, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Crazy 8, etc...). The mall does have an attached Applebees. There is a larger mall about 10 miles away, but it is the larger mall for the region and would have been packed. More crowds than I wanted to fight this morning. There is a selection of chain restaurants in the area too. Just down the street are the typical big box outparcels. I wouldn't be too unkind to the mall in reviews, just know what you are looking at - a smaller, mid-size mall competeing with a gigantic mall down the road. read more

This is a pretty nice mall to walk around and do a little shopping. Of course, I did think it would be a lot bigger considering it's location. But,I read the previous reviews before coming here, so I knew what to expect. But, for people who just show up on the whim....well they might not be too impressed. For locals, it would be a nice mall and shopping area to hang out. Definitely not cool enough to drive out of your way to come here, but if nearby and you need to waste some time-stop in. read more

Best place in Chattanooga to mall shop, much less crowded and safer than the bigger Hamilton Place Mall and oh so much less traffic. Lots of other shopping on down Hwy 153 to include WalMart, Old Navy, Target with lots of restaurants around too. read more
