We could not have been happier with her. We had some difficult communications with the accountant assigned to our family. In a span of about four months we only had to inquire about two bills, but the accountant took a long time to return our emails or phone messages. One time, information she gave us proved to be incorrect, but eventually everything got sorted. I just found the accountant to be less responsive than one would expect in a customer service role. It took longer than expected to see action on the return of the remaining balance of our deposit. However, I received an unexpected call from Fedelta, apologizing for the delay, and all ended well. The most important part of our relationship with Fedelta was the simple fact that they had a caregiver who treated my wife as though she was the caregiver's mother. While this extraordinary woman was with us, she became part of our family. What more can one ask.

My husband had open-heart surgery in January at the University of Washington Medical Center and due to a diabetes-related wound complication, was admitted to the hospital for a second stay for initiation of wound-vac therapy. They sent us home with home-health nursing arrangements for changing the dressings. The hospital staff did not consult us about our preferences and made these arrangements for us, presenting them as the only option. Honestly, I was very concerned about what felt like a real violation of our privacy, and I did not want to have a nurse in our home. However, there really was no way to make the timing work and to secure arrangements in a wound-care clinic, so we reluctantly agreed to go along with the plan. Mary Bakker showed up at our house on Sunday and quickly changed my mind. She was professional, kind, and respectful. I did not feel uncomfortable at all about having her in our house. She was careful about doing the admission, medical plan, and medication-tracking paperwork accurately and explained things to me clearly (John was not interested in the paperwork, and she didn't force him to participate). Before beginning the treatment, Mary talked to John and I, listened carefully to our concerns, and wanted to know exactly what had and had not been working with the previous wound-vac dressings that he'd had. John had had a terrible experience with the first wound-vac dressing change in the hospital (the nurse refused to give him pain medication as ordered and it was very traumatic), and she was sympathetic and reassured John before she started. She also gave him a lot of autonomy in the process; he was able to remove the old dressing himself, which was the part that the hospital nurse had done in such a painful way. That was very helpful! She did a brilliant job changing the wound-vac dressing; it didn't leak as some of the previous ones in the hospital had, and it was also more comfortable than many of them. She shared information about the wound, what to expect as it healed, and when we would know we were done with the wound-vac unit, information we'd tried to get from hospital staff but never managed to learn from them (and we got the sense that many of them didn't know). The only feedback I'd give Heartland about how to improve is to provide their nurses with better gloves; the cheap vinyl ones that Mary had stuck to the dressing; the nitrile ones that the hospital had given me were much better. Better gloves are a tiny investment that would help the nurses perform better for their patients. Because John wanted to go back to work, we ended up getting the rest of the wound-vac dressing changes done at the UWMC wound clinic. This was in no way a reflection of the services we got from Heartland. We were both pleasantly surprised and if one of us ever needs home health care in the future, I will be a lot less concerned about it than I was this time.

This is now twice that Heartland has worked with me after a Total Knee Replacement…read more The first time was in March of 2010 and now with the replacement I had done on 12/21/11. I have not had an easy ride with the last replacement (thank god we only have two knees). Sick in the hospital, 2 units of blood, lots of pain and sent home over a long holiday weekend without complete pain control. I was a basket case and I live alone. If it had not been for Heartland, (Ronnie and Stacey) I think that I would have ended up back at ER and back in the hospital. Their great support and care have kept my sprits up and help give me the support to work on the painful recovery from my second not so fun total knee replacement. So glad that Heartland has been there again for me during my recovery. They get top ratings in my book. Suzy

She likes me a lot but…read morefelt that my health issues weren't getting better because I only had her for a weekday and Sundays. She drives her own vehicle and that's freaking rare! The new Sunday caregiver is very sweet, works her butt off, and is an artist like me! She also lives about four blocks away from me and although she doesn't drive, she still managed to get a lot of chores taken care of. Hooray! Now, the bad part. Before I had M. as my driving caregiver, I had another great caregiver. Her first name also began with M. Ha! Anyway, SHE was amazing. And then, one Monday when she was supposed to start her shift with me, she didn't show up. I had her cellphone number and called her, frantically. Nothing. No calls. No texts. The supervisor called and asked me how I was doing with M, on my new weekday shift. I was surprised and told the supervisor that M. had not shown up or called. I was worried that maybe she had been in an accident or something. SHE didn't call Family Resource ever again. She just quit. I was so upset! And then I went through caregiver after caregiver after caregiver. I told Family Resource that they had one more chance or I would jump ship to another company. Oh, they begged me not to get another company. And they sent M., the most amazing and caring person I had ever met who was a caregiver. We hit it off from the first day and I requested that if she had any shifts she needed filled, I would love to have her. And it was great, until recently. She has children and wanted to spend more time with them in the summer, which I totally get. But...except for my Sunday caregiver, the company doesn't seem to be able to get a driver who isn't a complete flake. And the flakes are flaking out AFTER the company had assured me that they can get a person who drives. After a lot of "will they, won't they?" I am tentatively scheduled to have a driver tomorrow (Thursdays) to take me to a weekly medical procedure. IF no one bothers to show up or something else happens, I am going to find another home healthcare company. I have been dealing with the proverbial "bait and switch" crap for at least a year! This is soooo bad for my physical and mental health. This company never returns calls in a prompt manner. If you talk to one person one time and another person the next time, no one there has a freaking clue what's going on. Seriously?? Family Resource, get it together or I am done with your business.

Excellent Retirement Apartment Facilities for my Family Members…read more SITREP Both my mother and my uncle John have spent time in these facilities. Mom is still here and I come visit her. My uncle John has since moved on to a nursing home, but when he was more independent-living and ambulatory, these facilities made a great home for him. THE SETUP They are Studio-apartments for single individuals or couples. They have an excellent physical plan that includes many living rooms and multi-purpose rooms for the residents. I am very impressed with the computer room with it's four (4) whirring PCs! In a facility with more than a couple of hundred individuals that doesn't sound like a lot of computers, but this generation I have found isn't naturally intuitive to this technology. However, I have dragged my mom into the 21st Century world of computers and smartphones, and in the end she really has appreciated it. So she is usually one of just a few people that use the computers at any given time. GUEST ROOMS But beyond being residential facilities, they also have guest rooms that I have taken advantage of because they are integrated into this facility campus. The guest room I stay in is extremely inexpensive, and on the same compound as mom's. At a mere $35 a night - you can't beat that in any hotel for what amounts to a really nice studio apartment. I sometimes may begin and end a trip using my Hilton Honors Points at a Homewood Suite, but it's nice to know that for the buck of my stay in Seattle, I can stay at my mom's facility for my home base as I work and visit friends. HOLIDAY DINNERS I love the holidays at Northaven because of the festive celebrations they have around Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas (usually the times I stay in mom's local digs). She likes to show me off to her co-residents as I come visit and hang with her posse. They are a bunch of fun older ladies - and one extremely funny Pakistani gentleman (a former diplomat now living in this country), and we make the most of some of the holiday events. The facility really goes all out on preparing special dinners and they are really quite delicious with all the trimmings. But I have to note that even the normal average dinners are quite elegant and enjoyable here. GARDENS There are some beautiful rose gardens on the grounds that the residents get to enjoy. All the gardening and trimming is quite exceptional and the ground are kept beautiful all year round.. THE LOWDOWN A very sweet and quaint facility to make home in one's sunset years.
