Every single person we encountered was warm, encouraging, and genuinely helpful. My dad's been in other rehab facilities before, but they were far from home & made regular visits quite a hardship for our family. Having a place of this caliber so close to us has meant everything. We're deeply grateful for the care he received, and if he ever needs this level of support again, we wouldn't hesitate to bring him back. Hopefully that day never comes -- but it's a real comfort knowing it's there if it does.

The family members support each them with frequent visits and supplement anything they need. At times, the staff is not 100% on the ball and require that we keep check on doctor's orders. It is important to do this since health issues are involved.  There are a variety of activities offered and many residents take advantage of the offerings and state that the choices are outstanding. These activities offer so much, friendships, socialization, enjoyment and much more. The programs are high quality and open to all. So far, the individual apartments are pretty basic. The windows are large and open onto lovely landscaping. Moving in required that each family member had to leave much behind and only bring in a few treasured items to fit into the small apartments. For our family members it is important that we 'supplement' their lives with our support. We do so with love and affection.

Every time I visit the Ida Culver house, I am just so impressed with the quality of the staff. One of the places where the staff has an opportunity to really shine is in the dining room. At the end of pretty much every meal, "someone" seems to always mentions how great the staff is.

One of her friends' mother was extremely happy here. She was here for over a month and there are several staff members that truly cared about patients' well being. RN Violet is a gem. From the time Mom was transferred to her unit, she gave us information about how Mom was doing. She gave suggestions on what would make her more comfortable. She also has much experience and knowledge about health conditions and followed through. Mom was in good hands under her care. There are others I would like to mention, including CNA Vincent, who made sure Mom ate. There are other CNAs who I wish I have their names. Shelly in Finance is awesome. She is the only person that clearly explained the Medicare and Medicaid processes that I've met. Overall, it was a little sad leaving because of these individuals who truly care for others. In short Most skilled nursing facilities are severely…read moreunderstaffed. That's not unique to this place. Same with the aging building itself. But the problems here go well beyond that, and I'd feel guilty not warning people to avoid putting loved ones here. In long My lovely bride had a massive stroke 4 months ago, and needed a temporary boost to her rehab program. Going in-patient would allow her to get more intensive physical therapy to bolster her strength. Her insurance has a limited network of SNFs they will approve, and after having to take extra time for paperwork with them, we missed our first choice and ended up here. All the negative preconceptions you might have of SNFs came true as soon as we stepped in the door. When you're a long ways away from being ready for senior living, going to a facility where that's part of the program feels unsettling. You'll have neighbors somewhere in the building who are just biding their time, and some might be kind of out of it. That's deflating, even though it's not their fault at all. This can change how the staff treats all their patients. Nothing seems urgent, other than a genuine medical emergency. We've had in-patient care at 2 hospitals and a true physical rehab hospital this year, and the level of activity there is just worlds away. That makes it even tougher to see the apathy from the staff at a place like Broadview. They weren't all bad--we found a couple nice folks in nursing and a social worker who was great. But the first room we visited had overwhelming foul odors. You picked up unpleasant smells right at the front desk, but this room seemed completely unsanitary. Soiled garments left on the bed which was supposed to be for a new arrival. The mattress was long past its expiry date, and you could feel the bed frame poking through without even putting your weight on it. The first 2 people we asked about this said it was fine, there were no issues with the room. The next room was better, but it took 4 hours for the intake person to visit and review our requests. By this point, meds were overdue. It was 2 more hours before any arrived, and some were 10-12 hours overdue before they showed up. Stroke patients need lots of different meds, many of which can't be staggered that much. We asked for other basic accommodations and had to argue--literally--before they'd even consider them. Overnight, one nurse confronted my wife, her roommate, and other patients combatively. I wasn't there to hear her comments, but they sounded like the kinds of things someone who worked in a prison would say. Even the most compassionate nurses have bad days, but they don't berate and degrade people over nothing. Not if they want to keep working in health care, I'd imagine. But here it happens. Nobody likes having to choose where to put a loved one for any of the types of care this place provides, but if you do have to make such a decision, I'd try everything to go somewhere other than here.

Four years ago we moved my mother to Seattle from her home in NH to live with and be cared for by…read moremy family. One year ago she transitioned to Callahan House after a short stay at Aegis of Shoreline. My mother suffered from dementia and was in decline for the full year. Last week she died while in hospice at Callahan House. While obviously a difficult situation my family is grateful to the staff at Callahan House for caring for her. When she moved in she was able to have her dog Beanie with her which was huge is helping her transition to the new environment. While eventually we had to keep Beanie at our home the staff always was welcoming when we would arrive with Beanie for visits. The activities were the centerpiece of her life at Callahan. Seeing my mother engaged with a group in exercise class, arts and crafts, or a live concert meant so much to me and her. The staff always made the effort to include her in the activities. The staff were wonderful in her care and it is a testament to the entire staff that after a stay in a hospital we were relieved to get her back to Callahan House in hospice care, in a familiar setting with a staff that truly knew and cared for her with Beanie visiting. While she did not pass her last days in her NH home she did pass "at home" in a familiar setting surrounded with family and staff members she knew and who knew her. The pandemic has put stresses on the medical system and assisted living in general. My mother's care for the last four years has been a bumpy ride at best. My thanks go out to the staff at Callahan House including concierges, nurses, activity directors, care directors, managers, med techs, general care, facilities and kitchen staff for the caring environment they created at Callahan House to support all the residents on this difficult phase of their lives.

This facility was completely unprepared to release my 91-year-old mother an entire three (3) days…read morefollowing medicare notice of non-coverage; which was issued 3 weeks after her hip replacement surgery. Because they stated the doctor "left for vacation to Mexico," they could not provide me her medications, a list of her medications, and none of her prescriptions had been called into the pharmacy. Further, they did not have a cheap aluminum walker to send her home with. Because the head nurse had expressed she was confident she would be kept on after appeal, she left me scrambling to fly from out of state the following day after rejection. This all took place on a FRIDAY evening, with no options but to go the weekend without meds or a walker. I managed to arrive the following day, but the couldn't handle a basic discharge that is part of what they do every single day as a business. They SHOULD have kept my mother over the weekend at no charge to her to make up for their MAJOR blunder (instead they estimated about $500 per night out of pocket). When I found my mother waiting for me, they had a quarantine sign on her door but my mother wasn't sick. The nurse told me the sign had to do with her roommate who had left a couple days prior, so my other said she was not even being attended to. I would NOT recommend this facility if you're looking for a place your loved one will be treated like an actual human being, worthy of respect, and who will help with any sort of transition after discharge.

The place looked clean and there was a receptionist up front that monitors visitors in and out. The rooms were fairly large with a window view of the gardens. Food quality looked subpar to hospital food and the staff responsive times were slow. At least, they are nearly impossible to open. It's best to avoid them and learn to endure bland food. Do you like plain Greek Yogurt? Ask for it. Good luck! Day after day, you'll get loaded-with-sugar flavored YAMI Yogurt. Do you want poached eggs? You'll receive eggs that are either hard boiled or barely cooked. Oh yay! Fish and Chips is on the menu. It's mostly breading with a tiny piece of some mystery fish buried inside. The "chips" are under-baked soggy frozen fries. Don't bother with the poison ketchup packets. Grilled Cheese Sandwich? You'll receive a plate of wilted, and black around the edges, lettuce...topped with cubes of cubes of bland chicken breast from a can. That's it...except for the little container of loaded-with-high fructose corn syrup Italian Dressing. Your first Caesar Salad without croutons, Parmesan, nor Caesar Salad dressing. "Way to go, Chef!" It's not even close to a Caesar Salad. Are you a vegetarian? Your single choice for each day of the week is going to be the exact same dish. I'm not kidding! For example, you get to enjoy Eggplant Parmesan everyday. A dream come true, right! It's an under-baked eggplant cut in half with some plain tomato sauce (not Marinara) smeared on top and a miniscule sprinkling of Parmesan. That is NOT how Eggplant Parmesan is made...and who would want it everyday? No one! Blatant discrimination against Vegetarians! One evening, in desparation, I ordered a tuna fish sandwich with toasted whole wheat bread...with their lettuce, tomato, and swiss cheese additions. Who could botch that? I received a toasted tuna sandwich on white bread!?! They fried the whole sandwich. It was hot tuna!. No tomato, no lettuce, no cheese, etc. Unbelievable! If you want toast for breakfast, you'll be delighted with your single piece of almost toasted bread. They will offer you "butter". It's emulsified soybean oil. Not butter. The jam is one flavor of unsweetened (strawberry) Smucker's in a packet with who-knows-what for sweetener? A taco? You'll receive a folded soggy tortilla with their canned cubed chicken inside, a pile of black beans, and a pile corn. That is what passes for a taco. No seasoning. Ask for salsa and the response is..."We don't have it.". (They have never heard of it!) You can have something called "Taco Sauce" in a packet with the requisite high fructose corn syrup and the 2 preservatives. However, you must know to ask for it by the "Taco Sauce" code name. I was there for 3 long weeks and lost 14 pounds. My cousin ordered Kate's Farm protein drinks and Aloha protein bars from Amazon...or, I would have starved. When I was finally released, I was so iron deficient, I had to call 911 and go to the Emergency Room at Swedish Edmonds. I was seriously anemic! At Swedish Edmonds ER, I received 3 blood transfusions. The "food" at Richmond Beach Rehab is criminal!!! The people administering the facility only care about their little rules, the numbers, and getting a pat on the back for coming in under budget. The excuses they give are worn-out clichés like..."We're doing the best we can with what we have". That means absoluetly NOTHING! Here's an idea...OWN THE PROBLEMS AND FIX THEM!!!
