Staff was incredibly friendly and made sure we had the best possible time out on the water!

My wife had a 30 minute knee procedure and the folks there (with the exception of the last nurse…read morewho wheeled my wife to the car) were quite friendly. However two important things make this a dismal experience. First, my wife told the doctor that certain pain killers didn't work on her and could he do a little research and prescribe something that might work (all of her records were available to see past history and recommendations). He gave it all of 20 seconds and decided on a painkiller. (When that didn't work 8 hours after the surgery, my wife went to the Liberty Hospital ER in extreme pain - they immediately treaded her as if she was a drug addict and did nothing but make her cry even more.) This doctor showed little care for my wife's request and fear. Second, the Surgery Center rents additional equipment that the surgeon needs to perform the surgery. Part of the job to do it right. The surgeon sends us a bill for his services and our copay is $200. Then unexpectedly we get a bill from the equipment rental people (for a 20-30 minute rental) in which our copay is $300 (insurance paid $700 on top of that). The equipment and tools, smocks, gloves, soap, etc. needed to complete his job should all be part of the surgeons expenses and bill. But he breaks out this rental equipment and passes this additional expense to the customer, because he'll get more from insurance and not have to eat whatever the insurance doesn't pay on the rental equipment. Next thing you know, they'll be renting the scalpels and surgical tools and you'll be getting billed separately for that - in which you'll have another copay. My experience with Liberty Hospital thus far, convinces me that they will nickel and dime you to death. This 30 minute outpatient-surgery is costing us out of pocket - over a $1000. We've had our BCBS insurance for over 15 years and this kind of price gouging is a first - so it's not the insurance, it's Liberty Hospital/Surgery Center.
