Vytau V - Northshore Dock
I would like to thank North Shore Dock for taking our dock of the water on Lake Charlevoix late in the season. It was a pleasure to work with this company and crew for the first time. I would like to note the company's front office scheduling, and communication with us, and the crew's professionalism in getting our dock and hoist out of the water was something we were not used to. In the past, we would not know when, or if, our equipment would be taken out of the water. It was always a source of angst and concern that it would never happen. The communication with the property owner is essential to give us comfort that all will be done in a timely fashion. For that, we look forward to working with Northshore Dock every season from now on.
In addition, I would like to thank one of the members of the dock crew that turned out to be both a gentleman, and a patriot. I did not get back to our house until a week or so after the dock and boat hoist had been taken out of the water. It was not until then that I noticed that the American flag flying from our flagpole was gone. Apparently, the flag hoisting line had broken during a storm, and was laying on the ground. I looked for the flag but could not find it until I walked back up to the Lakeside backdoor of our house. There, next to the door on the windowsill was the flag, but carefully folded in the proper way and set there for us to find.
I am a refugee of World War II having been born in a refugee camp in southern Germany. My parents were escaping from the Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe. We came to the US a Liberty Ship and processed through Ellis Island, winding up in Michigan where my father could find work in the auto industry so his family could survive, and later even prosper, and achieve the American Dream.
I am also a Veteran and am honored to have served in the Air Force in Vietnam on behalf of my adopted country, the greatest country on the planet. I often march in the East Jordan Memorial Day parade with my comrades in arms. I am very grateful to your company, your crew, and especially the person took the time to recover the flag from the ground and to apply the proper folds of honor.
