Maria, a CNA, went above and beyond to keep my room clean and made me as comfortable as if I were at home. I called her Santa Maria, she was so kind. PT was thorough, friendly, had me up and walking, and the food was excellent. There was some miscommunication from the admin staff + social workers, but overall I had a good stay.

Regardless of need, every resident is put in a diaper, as staff can take up to an hour to respond to call lights--even for basic restroom assistance. By the end of the hallway on the second floor, there was a strong odor of urine. Despite being fully mobile and independent before arriving, my uncle was often put back in bed after lunch instead of being encouraged to walk, simply due to a lack of available staff. The staff also shamed him into submission of never leaving the wheelchair even when he wanted to walk with a walker or visit another area. When we raised concerns about Nurse Sarah on the second floor, the administrator refused to take my call. If you're considering this facility for a loved one, think twice. The lack of staffing and poor care standards make it a place to avoid.

We stopped the medication yet she suffered with a new form of pain, which we thought was Piriformis Syndrome. We decided to see Dr. Sam because we didn't want her to be in any medication again. On the first visit, she talked about "white blood pressure" and it all made sense to us that my mother did not need the statins in the first place. When at home, her blood pressure is always good. And only in doctor's clinics does she feel stressed thus register high blood pressure everytime she sees a doctor! Dr. Sam treated my mother in 4 visits, explaining the big nerve and the muscles that are impacted by the exercises that she taught my mom. She not only healed her, she empowered my mother. I also appreciate that she truly listens. We could have been shunned for "reading too much in the internet", but she never did that, in fact, she walks with us in the thought process of understanding my mom's pain.

I had neck and shoulder pain and the adjustments that were made by Dr. J and the exercises that Liz and Jacob taught me will go a long way to the improvement of my life. I am sorry to see other reviews where people did not get the treatment they needed but for myself this was a great experience. Not quite finished yet but the professionalism and attention to detail are fantastic.

Hands down BEST facility, care and staff in Illinois! When…read moreit came to long term care, for my now 96 year old Mother (who is also my best friend), there was not even a question as to what the choice would be. From our side and from hers. Citadel of Wilmette!!! We were referred to Citadel by Evanston Hospital and her primary physician for rehab following a very serious fall last year at 95 for which she was hospitalized. The rehab and the staff at Citadel is beyond anything one could imagine. Personal, lovely, exceptional in their knowledge and care. She was successfully rehabbed and we brought her home, but she was so sad to go. Shortly there after, she suffered another fall for which she broke her hip and again was hospitalized and chose Citadel for her rehab facility. Again, same experience and she was greeted back with open arms and hugs and a determination and willingness to get her successfully rehabbed again. Within a few weeks, she was ready again to walk and rehab was successful. But what was clear now for us as a family, and for my Mother, was that going home and living independently now would no longer be an option. We faced the fact that long term care was now a fact and that living on her own would be fatally unsafe. Knowing the answer ourselves as a family that Citadel was the #1 choice for long term care, we asked our Mother where SHE wanted to be for her long term care. She said HERE of course with all of my "friends". You see, she does not call the staff her caregivers, they are all her "friends". In my life, I have never seen a nursing home or hospital or actually ANY staff as happy, joyful, caring, patient, diligent, smart, safer and loving as the staff at Citadel of Wilmette. I am almost crying while writing this, because my heart is so abundant with love and thanks for this incredible facility and staff for making my Mother in these twilight years SO happy and cared for, safe and feeling like she is at home. Mary, my Mother calls Citadel her home and we as a family do too. The location of Citadel is outstanding as when we visit we can enjoy the fireplace and bird room with her and take her for wonderful outings in the town of Wilmette and neighboring villages. And when I work in Los Angeles, which is often, I can FINALLY rest my head on the pillow at night knowing my Mother is safe and so very, happy. The facility is extremely clean and modern and upkeep is outstanding. The KIND, LOVING, JOYFUL, HAPPY, PATIENT AND EXTRAORDINARY staff is like nothing I have ever seen before and their long term care and their rehab is the BEST you will ever get. Thank you Citadel for the joy you bring our Mother. She loves you ALL and as I say, calls you her FRIENDS. Because you ARE. 10 STARS!! With love and appreciation, Maeve Quinlan, the Quinlan Family and our beautiful and vibrant mother, Mary

UPDATE: We decided it was in my grandmas best interest to…read morestart In home hospice care. We found these soars on her neck from being neglected for over a month. My grandma suffered a stroke in October, survived many complications and is now at this nursing home. Due to the COVID-19, on March 11th they restricted all visitations for the safety of their patients (understandable). It has now been over a month since she has seen anyone in our family. Thursday afternoon, we received a heartbreaking call informing us that she hadn't been responsive in days, her vitals are low and we should say our final goodbyes.. could be a couple hours or days. As we all rushed over there, they refused to let us in to see her. Today, we gave the receptionist an iPad and asked that she'd set it up in my grandmas room. The iPad is set to automatically pick up FaceTime calls. Can't see her in person, at least we can see her, talk to her and let her know how much we love her through FaceTime. Hours later, in the middle of a FaceTime, one of the nurses comes into my grandmas room hangs up and closes the IPad case. Now we really can't see my grandma and she can't see us. We call, asked that it would be put back up and they refused. Said it was just temporary. We asked, are the residents not allowed to use cell phones? All other hospitals and nursing homes are allowing family members to call their loved ones. In fact, it is encouraged by primary care physicians!! The nurse, said oh they are allowed cell phones. But you cannot record her or our nurses. We explained that it is set like a phone, please this is all we have. She said, this is our policy you can call the director on Monday and then hangs up in our face. It is Easter, my grandma's favorite holiday, she is not promised an hour let alone until Monday. You must have no heart at all to strip away our rights and my grandmas rights at her last final stages of life. This has taken a toll on our entire family. This is an awful place. With some, not all, but some of the most heartless people working there. If you love your family members, do not bring them here.
