Went in for a haircut, no one acknowledged me entering the shop, or asked me if I had an appointment... I waited 20min and no one said a thing to me. I then listened to two, tired-old barbers, and ignorant, one closed-minded customer blabber-on about the Denton Tree Lighting Festival, and how you're "not allowed to say Christmas anymore," and that "this time of year is when Jesus was born," and "that's why we say Christmas..." I tried to politely interject that Christianity just piggy-backed off of Pagan rituals, and that the City of Denton's "Holiday Tree Lighting Festival" isn't just for Christians, but that it's for the whole community who are not all Christians, and I was then asked to leave. Decent haircuts. I won't be back. One of the barbers is heartless. This man came in with many years of hair and beard growth, clearly coming off some very hard times. A haircut is a big step toward a new life for someone in such a sad situation. The man got nervous and left, and this barber practically cheered. She had no sympathy at all. Was in town visiting my best friend and I needed a haircut, so my buddy told me about Northside barber shop. Typical barber set up with waiting chairs and 4 barbers. Place was clean and the barbers all seem to be in good moods. Debbie was my barber and she did a great job. She asked my preferences before she got started and in no time I had a perfect cut. Debbie was very friendly and offered some small talk. Prices are very fair! Definitely be coming back next time I'm in town. read more

I was going to this barbershop for while off and on through COVID was a Marine guy named Denny was good barber and very personable.recently I went in and they told me he was gone. guy there and lady which will remain un named where bad mouthing Denny. I was little turned off by this but let it go. went back there today and not only where they still talking about him but when it was my turn the guy that cut my hair last time let someone else in front of me that had just walked in and pointed to the new lady and said she can cut your hair. I sat down in aw. thought about it and got up and walked out. owner there said nothing. either time. my point of view is this is not a professional business and they also should not be taking about prior employees around customers. especially marine veterans. and should keep there thoughts to there self. Please use any other barber shop. I went to get a cut and I am absolutely devastated by just how bad of a job she did. Hairs are sticking up everywhere, random uncut hairs throughout and I look like I have a toupée now. She gave me razor burn on my neck and covered all of this up with gel so I couldn't notice until I was home and took a closer look. She had a bad attitude and couldn't stop talking about her co-worker calling out because he had to put his dog down! Distasteful, unnecessary and unprofessional. This barbershop is a Denton institution and should get more credit on Yelp. I first found out about this hidden gem when I was having breakfast at the Egg House Cafe next door and the manager there recommended that I see Debbie and her team. Wow, everybody here cuts with skill and is very personable. Real down to earth people and not many places exist like this. I enjoy driving from far away to get my hair here. read more

I think the best way to relay my rating is by elaborating on my experience, so I will do just that. I went in on a hot Tuesday afternoon on my second day of college at UNT. Though they were about a mile walk, or 10 minutes on skateboard from the campus, it was worth the extra ways as opposed to the super cute on campus for the following reasons. The staff was incredibly friendly. The woman who cut my hair was impressively knowledgable and actually taught me a thing or two. She had her full barber teaching license, which is a big plus. She kept the conversation going and it felt natural. I went in looking for a change not knowing exactly what I wanted, I just went in and said to cut my hair how it looked best to be cut for my facial shape/structure. Ultimately I am happy with the cut. The staff were friendly to the point where they offered to give me a skateboard, for free. Following, they give out free soda to all of their customers, no extra charge. Worth the 15 dollars. A few draw backs: it is a relatively small shop and due to its popularity, tends to be busy. There is a single, unisex restroom, which could have been more well kept. The shop's staff's living area was exposed losing some professionalism. Again, the lady was a bit generous In how much she cut off, but nothing interfered with it being a great cut. I give this shop a 4 out of 5 because the quality was exemplary, but had a few draw backs. I would recommend it for those who know what they want, but going in without a clue may be a gamble. read more

It took me a long time to find a barber that I liked when I moved to Denton county. You'd think that any barber worth his scissors could do a proper high and tight, but NO! Too many "sports" salons in DFW that are more interested in selling overpriced services than cutting hair. Then I found Denny at Northside. Perfect haircut every time with no explanation needed done by a former Marine. Unfortunately I moved into far east Collin County, so now every time I need a haircut I have to think up a reason to be an hour west. I will continue to go here as long as I am close enough and Denny works here. read more

My husband went in for his first haircut since it grew back after chemo. My husband has bounced around a couple of the other barber shops, but hasn't been really satisfied. From the moment we walked into Northside Barbershop, he felt welcomed and comfortable. As is happened, Denny is a former Marine as is my husband. My goodness. I went to this place because of good reviews. Denny cut my hair and though he and the staff are friendly, it was a horrible haircut! He missed patches of hair! I had to go home and run my set of buzzers over it to finish the cut! What a bust! I can't speak for the rest of the staff but if you go to Northside, don't choose Denny. Not worth the $14. Northside Barber Shop preserves life "before the wasteland." It's been around for over a hundred years. It's a real barber shop--with real barbers--one of whom is the owner. And despite the wasteland, Northside is thriving--which means they're doing what they do well. In a day when big box dominates, I still look for independent hardware, markets, restaurants--and barber shops. Because these places are REAL, not pre-fab clones. First visit and they they did great. Shannon helped me and she did a nice job. 2 razor and taper the back. Trim the front. There was a few people waiting but went by fast. tV to watch while there. This is by far the best barber shop in Denton! I started going here while in college at North Texas. I now plan trips to come back to see friends and get my haircut. read more
