Excellent B&B and i will highly recommend it. It is family owned and you will see them greeting you, making your breakfast, doing repairs around and more. I love supporting businesses like these. Kee in mind that this is an old school so it is noisy when you walk. The floors are the original from the school. When someone showers you will know. The beds are comfortable and will be provided with plenty of pillows and blankets in case you get cold. One thing i will recommend to the Duarte's is to have an area where to hang out. I mean not only the foyer where the puzzle is but may be in the foyer in the last floor? Like a small couch and a small table? We picked up some dinner - to eat at our lodging place and we had nowhere to seat and eat our food. There is outside but it was too cold to do so. Overall, it is a nice place to stay. We enjoyed it. This 1900s school was converted to a bed and breakfast and was one of the most unique and pleasant stays I've ever had. We drove from Spokane National Airport to Glacier National Park and this was a great halfway point in Bonner's Ferry Idaho. For the past three years, the B&B has been a family-owner business spanning over 3 generations. All the family members we interacted with are extremely friendly and made you feel at home. We were greeted by Jerry and Frank (the first gen of the bunch) at check-in. Jerry walked us through the property and told us more about the history of the B&B. We were also greeted with the most delicious cookies which was great after a long drive. Pool is closed sometime during September but the hot tub is open year round. Throughout the hallways and rooms, you'll see trinkets and photos of remains from the school which is really neat. The second floor used to have 2 large classrooms which have been converted to 6 rooms, each with their own bathroom suite. We stayed in room #7 which was the 'french theme' but Jerry told us they are converting to a 'geography' theme by next spring. The room has very high ceilings and there's a TV with Netflix available. Breakfast started at 8:30AM and you're seating based on your room number in pairs. We were served by the 2nd and 3rd get family members with coffee, orange juice and a delicious breakfast of egg quiche, fruit, and a homemade cinnamon roll. It was delicious! Northside B&B is also very conveniently located to downtown Bonner's Ferry - only about a 10 minute walk. We made our way down there to walk through the street before taking the second half of our drive. Overall it was such a lovely stay! read more

My girlfriend and I needed a little escape. Northside School Bed & Breakfast was the perfect place to do it. We arrived to check in and the owner gave us a tour of the place. She was very nice, informative and the perfect hostess. We got to look around before she showed us to our room which was a beautiful lavender color with a high ceiling. She explained that the rooms were being redone in school themes. We went into downtown for dinner and when we came back, there was homemade brownies waiting for us. Our evening was very relaxing with time spent in the hot tub and a dip in the magical pool. The bed comfortable, the room peaceful. The next morning, coffee and breakfast was served in the old cafeteria room. It was nice visiting with three generations of family while eating a well put together home cooked breakfast. read more

We stayed here two nights for our girls trip. Very family friendly! My daughter is 5 years old and enjoyed every minute in the pool! In the evenings, the adults enjoyed a glass of wine (we provided) on the deck, overlooking the pool and river valley. Breakfast was excellent both days and the family/staff is super friendly! Rooms are clean and each one is unique! This place was definitely what we needed. Relaxation!!! We would absolutely stay here again! We enjoyed the quality linens, private bath, and hot tub as well as wonderful touches like fresh cookies on arrival and a delicious gourmet breakfast. Fun learning about this historic building. This was a GREAT find! I spoke with Jerri (owner) on the phone and she was extremely pleasant and helpful, so I booked the room and was thrilled I found this place. Jerri and Frank are incredible hosts, the Northside is spectacular, immaculate, friendly, and the breakfasts are 2nd to none on the traveling hotel breakfast circuit. I was warmly greeted each morning by Jerri and Frank, served delicious breakfasts, and sent to work with a coffee to go. There's no where else in Booners Ferry like this. I HIGHLY recommend the Northside. Frank said I'd always have a room there...unless they were full, so don't go fillin' it up before I get there. I happen to be driving up to Bonners ferry and stopped in to Northside school bed-and-breakfast to see if they had any rooms available. They were more than accommodating and lead me around and showed me all the rooms that were available. I had a wonderful peaceful night sleep. MAGNIFICENT B&B! The building itself is rich in history as it was an old schoolhouse. Each room has a bit of a different theme, all loaded with history. The hosts are all a family that are very warm, welcoming & hospitable people. Breakfast was incredible (ham & cheese quiche, blueberry french toast casserole) and the setting for breakfast is nice with two seat tables. You can also choose to have breakfast on the deck (which we did on a bright, sunny morning.) We will definitely return as this is a great little getaway. They have an outside cat that TOTALLY added to the experience. My girlfriend is not even a cat person and she loved this one! Super affectionate kitty. An hospitable and accommodating family greets you underneath photos of Washington and Lincoln which have hung on the wall for over a century. Bonners Ferry, Idaho was never on my radar until moving to Utah and taking some trips to visit a friend's dad. I never could have imagined that I would find my favorite B&B in this small city close to the Canadian border. It is nestled on a hill in an old school house with great views from every corner. Ruth and her husband Gary run the show and do a phenomenal job! The breakfast spread is ALWAYS terrific. I have stayed here on 3 different occasions and it is a true pleasantry. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub, a patio, and she puts out cookies and after-dinner cordials for the guests to enjoy. Every room has its own personal bathroom and a slightly different theme...each one unique and executed beautifully. You can walk to the quaint downtown area and it overlooks the river that runs through town. I can't say enough about this place except that it is something that we always talk about for days after leaving. The Kootenai Best Western and Casino is the other accomodation in town and we stayed there 1 time. Definitely won't do it again...it doesn't come close to the B&B. If you feel the need for some slot machines, you can walk down to the casino. Please, I urge you to check out the Northside School and bypass the smoky, casino for some real accomodations. read more

We enjoyed our stay at the Northside School Bed & Breakfast. We spent the weekend in the Romance Suite. It is a well maintained, charming little schoolhouse, and very clean! It felt like it was taken straight out of a storybook (flowers everywhere, benches, shade trees, a sunken swimming pool). Ruth and Gene provided warm hospitality, and a full breakfast! Charming, Beautifully restored 1912 school house. All the rooms used to be classrooms, so they have giant, old-school windows. The wooden floors were refinished and schoolhouse antiques are placed throughout the building. We stayed in the very spacious Tuscany room. It was spotless and dust-free. Comfy bed. Beautiful view of the gardens. The breakfast was DELICIOUS - huckleberry stuffed French toast, egg soufflé, fresh berries, tasty coffee. The only criticism I have is that the owner was not very friendly. She was upset that we arrived early and was curt. The place is for sale. THIS is the B&B to head for or go out of your way for or just GO! Owner Ruth went to school in this converted schoolhouse. She and husband Gary bought it and renovated. I've been there four times now and am heading back on my way into Canada. You like huckleberries? As in huckleberry pancakes, French toast, muffins, bread, hot syrup, jam......individual ramekins of ham quiche? Melange of fresh berries? One morning even a Boston cream pie made its appearance. Eggs? Potatoes? Everything served up on real China in a huge room that rivals perhaps the Empress tea room in B.C. Ruth heaps the selections on, and you groan in pleasure! Her cooking is superb, and you NEVER know what awaits you upon entering the dining room. You love to watch the wild geese fly up river and down? Fog adrift in the early morning sun making its way into the river valley? The deep sunshine penetrating the windows facing south; a wooded area and shade across an expanse of lawn, penetrating the north exposure rooms? Your choice of rooms leaves you feeling like you are under the Tuscan sun, or hearing the beat of Caribbean rhythms; luxuriating in lavender and lace, or making love to a soft up-country beat...... Grand staircase awaits as you ascend to the rooms. Ruth even has her homemade canned huckleberries and bread for sale. Stuffed, comfy chairs to sit in to read or to converse on each landing. There is a pool. There is a bench on the porch upon which to watch and wonder at the river view. There is a terrace above the pool. Ruth is comforting and has stories to tell that will amuse you greatly. She is a historical reference library all her own! When I needed to hunker down and stay put for a while, I stayed a week and she let me change rooms at whim, just because I wanted to try them all! This is a "go-for-it" B&B. If you want the best of the best in home cooking and perhaps the pleasure of sleeping in a bed high enough off the ground ( I think they call it the Idaho Outdoors Room) where you can feel like the princess in the "Princess and the Pea" tale OR a mighty backwoods hunter/fisherman, then this is the place for you. read more
