Her recent chest X-rays showed no evidence of lung metastasis, and we consulted Dr. Gee about amputation because our regular surgeon was unavailable. During that consultation, my husband was told that Dr. Gee believed the cancer had spread to Jocelynn's liver and stomach and that euthanasia was the appropriate course. We were not comfortable making such an irreversible decision based on that assessment alone, so we sought another opinion from the veterinarian who had been managing her palliative care. After reviewing Jocelynn's imaging and history, he did not believe there was evidence of liver metastasis and felt the abdominal findings were more consistent with gastritis. We proceeded with the amputation. Jocelynn is now comfortable, active, eating, and enjoying her life again. We fully understand that osteosarcoma is an aggressive cancer and that her prognosis remains serious. My concern is that a recommendation to end an animal's life should involve careful reasoning, acknowledgment of uncertainty, and consideration of reasonable alternatives. Had we followed the initial recommendation without seeking another opinion, Jocelynn would not be here today. I strongly encourage pet owners facing an irreversible recommendation to ask questions and, when appropriate, seek a second opinion.

They don't try to sell us any unnecessary items/procedures/etc. and their prices are reasonable. They really seem to care about the welfare of the animals they work with. Our corgi sustained a leg injury while traveling out of state. The out of state vet clinic prescribed him some pain meds that he ended up having a severe allergic reaction to. We stopped those meds and returned home, but then he was still in pain and eventually stopped eating. Long story short, after lots of testing, trying different foods, and doing everything that Dr. Heatly and her staff could think of (blood work, x-rays, different meds, etc.), we went ahead and opted for an exploratory laparotomy. Obviously, we wanted to save this option as a last resort, due to the expense. The office staff suggested signing up for Care Credit to help cover the surgery expenses. They even helped us fill out the Care Credit paperwork, which I thought was really kind after all we were dealing with (our dog wasn't doing well at all). Well, once Dr. Heatly got in there during the laparotomy, she found a pretty good size blockage that was preventing our dog from digesting his food. We're not even sure what he ate, but it was something that didn't break down in his belly. The leg injury was actually a blessing because, without it, we may never have never found out about the blockage until it was too late. The blockage wasn't really visible on the x-ray. Thanks to Dr. Heatly, our doggo recovered and is back to his normal self. She even took him home to her house for a couple days to watch him when he was struggling to eat and she was having him try a new food, and again post-op when he was recovering, so she could monitor his vitals. I don't know what we would've done without her help! I also want to take a moment to address the other 2 reviews on this page. I've never had such an experience at Great Plains. So if those people actually experienced what they say they did, it must've just been an off day. I will say that they do get very busy up there in the office. And, there are certain days/times that are drop-off and pick-up times for the animals who are having a procedure done. So if you come/call during those times, you may have to wait a bit to be helped. But isn't that normal with any business who has a line of customers? I think some grace could be extended here. They're a very popular vet clinic, so naturally, they're very busy at times. If it's not an emergency type situation, I recommend calling/emailing them to see what the best time would be to come by, if you're visiting outside of an appointment time. I highly recommend Great Plains! They care. They provide great service. They don't give up on helping your furry family members.

Lol The following morning because I had been there all night they said that her condition was stable as was the puppies so they recommended sticking with my original plan and bring her to Wewoka Animal Hospital. Looking for a vet while on the road can be tough! I was lucky to find Choctaw family Vet, 2 miles north of where I was scheduled to stay whie in the Oklahoma City Area. From the first phone call, Dr. Jennings, and her Tech Laura were friendly, caring, and went out of their way to help me. They made an appointment for me to get Jolene in within 2 hours of me arriving. Once there, they were thorough, understadning , and communicated clearly everythignt hey were doing. After wards, I started seeing improvements within the next day and she has continued to improve every day. I would recommend them to anyone!!

Also, they did not provide any options for me to get the health records of the pet I adopted. When asked if they could email me, it still have the previous owners information and just said "sorry". As if they can't redact that info? As if the vet couldn't call me personally? I do not think they did their job in adequately clearing the pet I adopted and maybe their records would prove that. I would never bring my animal here. It does not take weeks to get back to someone when in reality, all I need to know is if labs were done, how much did the pet weigh, and if they noticed the lump during their exam. I've been taking my pets to him for years and he always does an awesome job. (Even tho I live 30…read moremiles away.) He has twice treated my Lab for snake bite. (Silly dog didn't learn 1st time) She has recovered beautifully. My friends have goats and sheep and this Vet is the only one they'll go to also.
