Started running a few years ago before the pandemic because I had an injury to shoulder from…read morekickboxing but wanted to stay active. In my first 6 months of running was able to run up to 90 min. After going to the US right when the pandemic started, I noticed over time my stamina dropped during running. Eventually was down to 2 miles then to 1 mile. It was a struggle to run just for 11 or 12 minutes. I saw a pulmonologist and got tested. I was put on additional asthma medication which did nothing. Worse yet I was accused of not taking my asthma medication properly. I have tried maybe around 15-20 supplements, some available in local stores, some not. Finally consulted a integrative medical doctor from the UK who was an elite triathlete who developed long Covid and was seriously debilitated until she received hyperbaric oxygen treatments. She developed her own treatment regimen which included diet and supplements (which are not cheap). I followed her recommendation of doing at least 3 hyperbaric sessions per week. I had 11 sessions and when I went back to Ontario found I was able to more than run for double the distance I was doing previously and last for over a half hour. My muscles weren't fatigued so quickly, my breathing was not as laboured. I was also taking supplements that help with microclots. As you can see from the photos the place is new and well-maintained. The chambers are cleaned after every session. Each client is given a plastic container to put things like cellphones and other electronics as anything with a battery is not allowed into the hyperbaric chamber. They have television sets and the audio is piped into the chamber. You have your choice of Youtube or Netflix. It really helps pass the time. If you are an older person like myself, I advise you not to have any fluids within 3-4 hours before having a session because you don't want to have to use the bathroom during a session. This is because it takes around 15 minutes or so to depressurize a chamber before you can exit and take care of business. You can have a blanket if you choose. The mask does not have to fit very snugly around your mouth and nose. I felt very supported by Santino and Dr. Joe in my healing journey. With the way they interact I felt that they genuinely care about my wellbeing. Dr. Joe told me that he wanted to help me get better with as few sessions as possible. I strongly recommend Vancouver Hyperbarics if you are dealing with any chronic issues whether it be asthma, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia or long Covid. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments took me farther than anything else I tried. It did the same for the doctor I consulted.

Sought advice, treatment for uncontrolled asthma, stomach problems. Complete waste of time. Battery…read moreof repetitive blood tests, still more chest X-rays, multiple breathing tests (why should there ever be more than one?) - no further ahead. Treatment consisting of ineffectual, previously rejected puffers actually made me worse. Prompted initiation of emergency 5-day Prednisone course prescribed previously by GP, thank goodness. Called doc for advice when Prednisone didn't work hoping to prevent visit to ER. Zero response. Nada. Either staff failed to pass along msg or doc ignored. As a result, ended up at ER, where attending doc gave shaming lecture: 'WHY don't you have a respirologist? Not an allergist - a respirologist! Are you stupid... etc.' ER docs don't grasp that consumers have NO control over the specialists who treat us. It's as if the law of battery doesn't exist in Canada. Hoped ER doc might make referral to respirologist. No such luck. That would be too easy. Just shaming lecture, another round of Prednisone and decongestant that actually worked unlike Dr. Wadi's. No idea how Dr. W made it through medical school. This is someone who has to be told repeatedly patient does not have a medical degree, please use plain English. Similarly told more than once to refrain from abbreviations not meaningful to anyone without medical expertise. This is someone who during clinic visit turns her computer screen to face the patient as if patient w/o medical training should read and interpret our own medical test results! Clerical support too inept to perform even the perfunctory task of obtaining patient's records from GP without intervention from patient! Gallingly, doc actually complained to patient about treatment protocols, which are determined not by patient but by her licensing body. Surely it is the responsibility of each doc to understand, argue against and, if necessary, overcome obstacles to treatment when it's in patient's interest to do so! Had I not pleaded a persuasive case to GP to obtain consult with respirologist Dr. Wadi likely would have continued billing multiple visits no matter how clearly ineffectual and even harmful her treatment proved. Formal complaint to the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons to follow for preventable visit to ER in breathing distress. Maybe Dr. W is competent with easily identified food allergies - milk, gluten, etc., the low-hanging fruit of allergy practice - maybe, but never for a respiratory matter - NEVER. And never for any illness for which time may be of the essence. This is a doc who would rather apologize to your family when you die a preventable death rather than risk pleading with overseers for a more qualified expert approach.

When I got back to Vancouver I was recommended to Dr. Shamim. She asked me a litany of questions and really narrowed the problem. In short, it was a tree nut allergy.
