My experience with this facility was a nightmare! I've never had such an awful medical ordeal in my life!
The minute I walked in the door I realized it was not good. I should have turned around and run right back out! The facility was dingy and uncomfortable. Upon going to the registration desk the young man who checked me in was curt and unprofessional.
The person that brought me to the cubicle handed me a bundle of various items: gown, slipper socks, etc. And said,"everything off, change into these." I turned around to place them on a chair and when I turned back to ask a question he was gone! He never uttered a word of greeting or good day upon leaving.
The only person in the place who was courteous enough to introduce herself and let me know the role she would be playing was the attending nurse.
Before doing the procedure the doctor explained the anasthetic he would be using is in the same family as one that I have a reaction to, which is uncontrolled trembling. He explained he would do everything to avoid a reaction by carefully doing the injection. During the procedure I started trembling uncontrollably. He never acknowledged it was happening or giving me reassurance that I was ok. During the procedure the doctor did something that caused excruciating pain! I actually screamed! He didn't seem to have any empathy! Never said he was sorry, only that he would be done soon.
With all of this the worst was yet to come!
I was crying as they wheeled me back to the cubicle because of the pain I was in. The person with me pushed the back of the stretcher up into a sitting position. I asked if she would please lay me back down. Sitting made the pain worse. She laid me down and then stood over me and said, " I put you down but you're coming back up. You have to leave!" This was no more than 15 minutes after the procedure.
I continued to cry from the pain and had to ask her to help me get dressed. She started to escort me down the hall but I just couldn't stand. She called down the hall for someone to bring a wheel chair. Pushed me out to my husband who was waiting in the car and left. I was made to feel like I was taking up space that they needed.
The hour plus trip home was bad. So much pain. I've had knee replacement surgery, shoulder surgery and a kidneys removed. I've never taken more than Motrin or Tylenol for the pain. When we got home my husband had some prescription pain meds left from a recent surgery. I had to take them in order to get relief.
I let the doctor that arranged my procedure to be done at Northway know what happened. The survey Northway sent was completed and returned reflecting every bit of my total disgust with my experience at their facility. The whole experience was dehumanizing! Not so much of an acknowledgement from either.
