Some things really stink about traveling solo... My jokes aren't nearly as funny when I tell them to myself. When you are tired and cranky there is no one else to deal with the crisis at hand. And my least favorite thing is that sometimes it seems like you pay twice as much for that hotel, taxi, gas, etc. when you don't have another person to split the costs. I was reminded of this little travel problem when trying to find the most economical way to get to and from PDX for a long trip. On short trips, Park-n-Fly or PDX long term parking are great, but weren't an option for this trip. So after much calling and web surfing for rates, I booked a towncar because they have a promotion where first time customers get a 20% discount if you pay by cash or check. So I got to travel in style without picking up other passengers and it was less expensive than the other shuttle services I checked. The owner was my driver both to and from PDX and I must say it was nice to see a friendly, familiar face after a long overnight flight. He was also on time (or early), personable during the drive and clearly takes pride in running a good business. read more

My beloved stepdaughter, at only 59 years old, passed away from terminal cancer on 1 October of this year. I had the blessing of being married to her mother for 28 years and 9 months. I have been a widower for going on five years. I will turn 80 in February. The family decided to have a memorial service in a restaurant located in Eugene, Oregon this past Sunday (11 November 2018). A family member chartered a ride on my behalf to and from the location. The event began around noon and ended in the early afternoon (about 3 to 4 PM). The driver picked me up from the apartment complex I reside in (McMinnville, Oregon). He called to confirm his arrival time and we were on our way without undue delay. I found him to be a very courteous diver and felt completely safe on the entire journey. He was very courteous and helped me in and out of the vehicle. "A-OK" isn't exactly true but it's as close to my experience as I can get. Reserve by phone, not by email, which is what I did. The result was no one showed, and I'm standing out in the rain waiting, having packed my raincoat and locked myself out of my friends' house. I called their number and the guy said he had no reservation for me (although they confirmed by return email). But! the guy on the phone leaped into his car and drove immediately to my damp rescue and I was at the airport in good time to catch my plane. The car was very comfortable and clean and the driver was a good guy. So, reiterating, I'll use them again, but phone for a reservation, don't email. read more

They picked up my disabled Mother at the airport, and were a complete untidy mess. They drove her to downtown Portland, got lost, and dropped her at the curb like a piece of luggage. She's DISABLED! The driver didn't even help her to the front desk. But the best part? They charged her $105 for this "Service" which is not allowed by Portland City rules. It's supposed to be $50 from the airport into down town. Update - Joseph, the owner, has fired that driver and is returning the amount that was over charged. I used Northwest Towncar to get to the airport for an early morning flight. On time (even at 4:30 a.m.), clean car, friendly driver - basically all the necessary ingredients for a upgraded ride to the airport. The first time user deal (20% off) was appreciated, but I don't understand the business model that increases the price for future trips... wouldn't they want to keep repeat customers by offering them discounts? Would rate these guys at zero stars if I could. So I book a pick-up for my family flying into Portland International. I give the guy all the info over the phone, including my Dad's cell phone number and all of that. The guy indicates the driver would send my dad a text message with his location and color of vehicle and additional details. I explain to the guy that my Dad is elderly and can't receive/send text messages, and to please call his cell phone instead. Guy on phone indicates "no problem". My elderly parents, sister, and little niece arrive at PDX and try to locate the car without any luck. I wasn't there, so I don't know all the details there, only that my family couldn't locate the car and driver. One would think the driver would call my Dad's cell phone and if he couldn't reach him - leave him a voicemail. No voicemails. My sister called their main number trying to find out what's going on - no answer, voicemail picks up on their end. It was 32 degrees outside, elderly parents (and my dad has cancer), sister, a child, and a collection of bags. They are NOT going to go searching high and low for a phantom driver in 32 degree weather - and had no choice but to scramble to find another way home. So a bit later on that same night (before I knew any of this was going down), I get a call basically saying where is my family and why haven't they called the service. The guy continues to tell me the driver had apparently called my dad several times with no answer. I tell the guy that I'd call my dad and find out where they are. Needless to say, my dad picks up on the first ring and indicates he received NO calls from the driver and NO voicemails. Further, my sister DID call them to try and find out what was going on. Why didn't the driver have the common sense to call my Dad if they couldn't locate each other? Things happen, wires get crossed, and sometimes things get confused. Understand that I'm not writing this review because of that. Stuff happens. I'm writing this review because of how this place chose to handle the situation. Taking absolutely no accountability in their part of the confusion, becoming argumentative, and further, pressing me to pay them. Are you kidding me? Pay you for a service we never received? I think not. So after I personally have this type of conversation with them, this guy calls my dad and has a similar rude conversation with him. Suddenly they appear to be able to reach my Dad's cell phone! These people calling my elderly father who's battling cancer and being rude to him really pissed me off and was utterly inappropriate. Not only did they lose the fair for my family, I will be coming up to Portland every month for the next six to eight months and need transportation each time. Needless to say, I'll definitely NOT be using these people. And if they choose to call me or my father again, I will share my experience with every business contact I have in the Portland area - which is an extensive list. We will *never* use these people again *ever*. Not ever, ever, ever. Hope that's clear enough. ** Update ** After apparently seeing my review, the owner called me to apologize, and to offer a free ride. I appreciated the apology. Highly, highly recommend! NW Towncar was recommended to me and we have now been using them for several years and have the highest regard for Ahmed and his drivers. When we first started using the service to and from the airport, we were splurging and treating ourselves. Now, it's the only way to go for us. We live in Tigard. We don't have to pay to park our car (which adds up) and deal with the extra time it takes. It is a luxurious ride and Ahmed and his drivers are so professional, timely, and friendly. The thing about Northwest Towncar is the consistency. My company has used these guys for about 8 months and every single ride has been no worry and hassle free. Our flight was delayed 1.5 hours which put us into PDX at 1:18am and the driver was there waiting for us, unbelievable! We were concerned no one would be there after we landed but he said: "No worries, I was tracking your flight. I wasn't going anywhere." My husband got us a towncar so we could start our vacation stress free. Our flight out was pretty close to rush hour so all roads from our home in Beaverton to the airport would be completely tragic. The gentleman was at our house 15 minutes early, waited patiently for us and was at the ready when we came out. He definitely made us very relaxed and took a load off. We booked a car at the last minute for my son and his date for Prom. I quickly received a call back arranging service. The driver Amin arrived 15 minutes early. He was friendly and courteous. The car was immaculate inside and out. Amin drove our son and his date from Vancouver to Portland to Camas and back to Vancouver. About 20 minutes after he dropped them off at the end of the evening, my son realized he had left his glasses in the back seat. We were unable to get over to Beaverton during the following week to pick them up, so Amin delivered the glasses to our door! What amazing customer service! I booked a towncar service for this coming weekend and negotiated a rate with the presumed owner for $5 off hourly for 4-5 hours. The ride is going to Oregon wine country and includes having the driver wait for 90 minutes during a tasting and lunch. After thinking it over and looking at numbers, I thought that ordering an uber would be more cost-effective so I called back to see if the owner could come down at all anymore in pricing. I asked for another $5 off hourly, but his response was aggressive and hostile. He told me that the deal is off the table altogether and that he is actually going to *increase* the fare back up from the $5 off hourly that he initially had given me off. What a horrible experience. I can't speak to the actual services they offer, but based on the sleaziness of this encounter, I would avoid at all costs and take your business elsewhere. read more
