Review for basketball gym only…read more The infamous DeMatha Catholic High School has been host for the WCAC girl's basketball quarterfinals for years but this year was a bit different. DeMatha's beloved, celebrated coach of the boys program for decades passed away in January. At the front entrance was signage that in Coach Wootten's honor, they were collecting used (but not abused) basketball shoes for the under privileged. Such an awesome gesture for an extraordinary coach/man. I've been to many basketball games in this gym and have enjoyed them all. They've always had the boosters and the DeMatha families working the front desk, collecting money and at the concession stand. Everyone is super friendly, even when folks have been eager to bypass the long lines and crowds. When packed, the atmosphere is electric and usually multiple college recruiters can be seen in attendance. That's what high school basketball is all about, especially at DeMatha where Coach Wootten built his legacy.

Traveling with the team I will say I lucked out in a way bc I am not sure where anyone parks other than illegally in the street coming in and out of the complex when it is busy. So that could be an issue for patrons who travel and need a place to park. However, this will be a very big issue to find a place to park. I will say that the inside of this arena is that of a bigger division 2 arena however - their snack bar and seating was all filled and the inside and entrances were well lit by natural light and windows. The only thing that maybe either they are keeping original or haven't gotten to is the floor. It is the original heavily polyurethane yellow-tinted floor paint. Charming to me but kind of looks out of place with the rest of the place. Will be back

One time there was this teacher who just came and like after 3 days she thought that she ran the whole school. She would boss people around and tell kids her own rules that did not follow the school. There was also a parent who came as a recess teacher and she was telling everybody what to do. She told my class when we were in line treat me like how you treat your parents but some kids don't treat their parents that well. Plus, SHE IS NOT OUR PARENT. and all we did to her was just turn around and she said that we were disrespectful. Anyway, IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO BE IN A GOOD SCHOOL, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO SUFFER, OR HAVE A GOOD TIME. Have a good day or night.

In those 10 years, that went way too fast, there was never a day after dropping him off that I worried about his well-being, safety, education, social interactions, Christian development, or overall happiness. The very reasonable tuition was money well spent. Would that these reviews had no word limits. I would go into depth about our experiences in each grade. Everything begins with a stellar staff. From my very first interaction with the pre-k teacher and aide on my son's very first day of school ever, I was put at ease. From day one all the way through 8th grade graduation, I felt blessed to have found this gem. When we were there they offered hot lunch every day, before and after care, field trips, summer camp, CYO Athletics, a super fabulous science curriculum, and weekly Mass. With hindsight now I can see that St. Ambrose prepared my son for the rigors of high school with its looming academic and social challenges. St. Ambrose helped my son become a better student and a young man who lives by the Gospels but never too preachy. He made lifelong friends and had soooo much fun while learning. St. Ambrose, pray for us indeed.

We got a weekly email about what the class was doing. Beyond academics, I am impressed by my child's social and spiritual growth. The teachers model respect and celebrate diversity. Families are welcome to share their traditions and culture, such as Hanukkah and Lunar New Year. Many faculty members are parents of current students and/or alumni, so they care deeply about the school and it shows. The small community builds a priceless sense of safety and trust. My 4-year-old knew middle schoolers by name, and they were always kind role models to the little ones. Many parents are neighbors, so I knew someone would have my back if I had a drop-off or pick up emergency, or forgot show-and-tell day! The admin is hardworking, resourceful, and receptive to parent feedback. Our family is blessed to have St. Ambrose as our church and school.

She will be taking the board exam this Summer to become a licensed pharmacist. My youngest daughter also completed the pharmacy tech program at Seton, she will be entering her senior year at Towson University and will be applying to PA school. Her friendships are strong and reflect Seton's sisterhood which is diverse and inclusive. The President Dr. Grillo, brings a strong vision to empower and prepare Seton students and calm, thoughtful and prayerful leadership. She is warm and genuinely interested in each and every student's dreams and accomplishments. All of the staff seem to want to cultivate confidence in them to excel. Mrs. McDonough, the principal is always helpful and responsive. Students are encouraged to advocate for themselves, especially with class selection & teachers. Over the past two years, there has been a tremendous shift to expose the students to events with national leaders, business owners, career fairs, service and internship opportunities. The lunch menu needs to be tweaked, yes. The are many clubs to join and have a leadership role in or you can petition to start your own. Arts, Dance and Athletics is heavily supported and cheered for. If you love music, Dr. Tatum welcomes you regardless of your skill level. The Orchestras, Choir and Honors Wind Ensemble compete nationally, and again won in New York with a superior rating. The Choir was honored to be invited to perform at the White House! I received my child's progress report for the 7th grade. He received all E's except for Gym. I…read morehave no way to contact his teachers to be proactive with this issue before report cards. Every time I call the school the 7th grade counselor is not available and does not return calls. My child was placed on in school suspension and I was never notified. I feel the school has poor communication with the parents (at least in my case). I would hate to think they are selective and do not want to waste time with kids who present a challenge or have behavioral issues and instead concentrate on the Honor students or excellent test takers that makes the school look good for the MSPAP. Ironically, I was told my calls were not returned because my number is long distance therefore requires a code. Yet when my child is in trouble they have no problem calling me to advise of the suspension. There are no parent/teacher meetings. Greenbelt Middle School does not encourage parent involvement or use technology such as emails to communicate homework, projects and grades I guess on the bright side my child has a locker this year. No lockers were available last year due to overcrowding.
