People say that on Yelp all the time, but Dawn and Jimmy at The Rail Trail Cafe are two amazing people who have done so much for the small town of Ogema as they welcome their patrons as if they are guests in their home. I adore them both, and when I visit the restaurant with my family, I feel like it's a cozy family meal more than it is "eating at a restaurant." It's an exceedingly difficult task to capture this vibe, but the fantastic owners do this with signature style. To say they are an asset to the town does not do their dedication justice...they are both much more than that. They are amazing community members, and I am so happy every time I see the place busy, which is often because the food is baller. If you are local, you will always see a friend there, and if you are not local, I dare you to leave without having met a new friend. Crazy great service, plus amazing eats, are all you need to know! This year on my annual vacation to the area, I was glad to see that Camp 28 had been sold and reopened, so I figured I'd give it another chance. I'm very happy I did. The pot roast was outstanding, the walleye excellent (try the breaded version), and the on-tap beers were great. From talking with one of the new owners, I found out that they have also been overhauling the rooms, and I much prefer the new decor, interesting photos and items from the logging history of the area. Plenty of photos on the wall, combined with a great view of the lake give you something to do while waiting for your food. For a variety of reasons, last night was the first time we stopped in for a burger and beer. I'm sure it won't be the last. Orders for food and drinks are placed at the bar. You can eat at the bar or one of several tables just off to the side. Food and drinks are cash only and the kitchen doesn't have the capacity to serve groups larger than six to eight. They have a small but decent selection of tap beer and of course a full bar. The burger I ordered was as good as any I've had at a local bar and grill -- thick, juicy, topped with cheese, onions, mushrooms, and a tasty (though generic) BBQ sauce. An ample amount of fries (skin on) completed the basket. They offer a number of set combinations or you can "build your own" with any of the ingredients they stock in the kitchen. I might not be a regular--I only occasionally indulge in burgers like these--but I'll come back for another, hopefully sooner than 35 years from now.
