The staff was very responsive initially, but now there are very limited hours when they can be reached. This is causing a delay in trying to set up an appointment to get the dog spayed. We need to get this done sooner than later, as she could go into heat at any time now. If this is how MARS operates, I would not recommend going through them for a pet foster or adoption!

Wow, what a wonderful shelter!!!…read more Rather than being in sad cages, all the cats are in rooms - some with other cats if they get along or need some socialization (and some alone if they are divas!) The rooms are all SUPER clean with lots of beds, perches, toys, litterboxes, etc. and the cats all looked very well cared for. They all got turns to come out of the rooms and explore the hallways for a while. The staff were great and very friendly. They knew a lot about the cats and who might be a good fit for the adopter - making sure that every kitty goes to a home that will let them thrive the most. If you are looking for a cat this is 100% a shelter you need to visit. You have to make an appointment but you will most likely have the place to yourself to get to know the cats. Well worth the extra bit of effort (we had recently gone to an adoption event at another shelter and it was so busy and most of the cats were off in "visiting rooms" so you couldn't meet them very well.

I have a special place in my heart for CFC…read more Visiting animal shelters can honestly be depressing, but I used to volunteer here in college and it is the most well-run no-kill shelter I've seen; the cats are living VERY comfortably. Rather than keeping the cats in kennels or cages, the cats can free roam within rooms that are specific to their personality type or medical conditions. There's a big main room for the social cats and kittens, another room for cats that are shy, a third room for cats with dietary restrictions/food sensitivities, and a fourth for kitties who are FeLV positive. The rooms have windows and beds and space for them to move around, which is so nice to see! This is a nonprofit no-kill shelter in a fairly small town so because they are volunteer based, they don't have long daily visiting hours. However you can rest assured that the cats get plenty of socialization and attention. These are very happy, very loved cats :) Staff here are also very active on social media so check out the Caring For Cats Facebook page to see all of the cats and their stories, to donate, or to participate in their fundraising events! If you're in the market for a fluffy new best friend, please consider making the trip CFC!

From my experience, communication has been one of the most challenging aspects. Foster communication takes place primarily through a Facebook group/chat, and I found that some responses to questions or concerns were unnecessarily dismissive or discourteous. As a foster, I believe it is important to be able to ask questions and raise concerns without feeling uncomfortable doing so. One of my most concerning experiences involved being provided dog food that, according to the expiration date on the bag, was approximately 10 months past its expiration date. The bag appeared to have been opened and resealed with clear tape. When I expressed my concern about feeding it to my foster dogs, I was told that it was acceptable to use. I personally was not comfortable doing so, so I purchased food myself and returned the food that had been provided. I have also observed situations involving foster dogs with medical concerns where fosters appeared to have difficulty obtaining timely veterinary appointments. My understanding is that approval may be required before taking a foster dog to a veterinarian outside of the organization's designated veterinary provider. I found this process concerning, particularly when a dog may need prompt medical attention. Another concern I experienced was receiving veterinary-related guidance from individuals who, to my knowledge, were not veterinarians. In situations involving an animal's health, I believe fosters should have clear access to qualified veterinary professionals and should feel confident that medical concerns are being handled appropriately. I understand that rescue organizations have policies, limited resources, and procedures that fosters are expected to follow. However, fosters also have an important responsibility for the day-to-day care and well-being of the animals in their homes. Clear communication, respectful treatment, and timely access to appropriate veterinary care are extremely important. I am sharing this review based on my personal experience and what I personally observed as a foster. I encourage anyone considering fostering or adopting through this organization to ask questions about their communication procedures, food policies, veterinary protocols, and what support is available to fosters before making a commitment. Based on my experience, I would personally recommend researching other rescue organizations as well before deciding where to foster or adopt.

I simply wanted to make him comfortable during his last months.

Since it was the first time using her service, she met with us one night so she could get to know our dogs, ask questions about where we keep food, etc. One of our dogs in particular is a rescue dog and has a lot of social anxiety when meeting new people. I loved how patient Genevieve was with her and by the end of that first visit, both dogs had really warmed up to her. We did a couple of practice walks before we went out of town and both times I came home to a very thorough note about how the walk went, which was a really nice touch because having used other services before, I've often been left wondering if the dog walker came, what happened, etc. While we were out of town we had a couple of updates from her, letting us know the dogs were doing well. I worry a lot about the dogs when I'm away and it was really nice to not have to worry because I knew they were under great care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Genevieve's Pet Care!

I absolutely LOVE this Keith Hedges! He's the ONLY vet I take my dog Chewy to! My dog was very sick…read morewith pancreatitis. He was in terrible pain and he had a high fever. The emergency vet said it would be a 5-6 hour wait just to get Chewy back to see a vet. I called Dr. Hedges, and at 10 pm that night he met me at his clinic, at treated Chewy with fluids, pain medication, and antibiotics. He had so much compassion, I was and am so grateful. I'm happy to report Chewy is fine now. I'm pretty sure Dr Hedges saved my dog's life that night. All the support staff at Brighton are just as exceptional as Dr Hedges. I'll never stop going to them, they absolutely are the best!!

We are so fortunate to have an organization like this in our backyards…read more Yesterday, a baby squirrel fell from it's nest and landed in our backyard. This wasn't the first time wildlife has landed in my yard, but it's the first time that overnight the animal was still there. (I did a bunch of googling to know not to feed or water the squirrel.) But this morning in my googling, I found Wildlife Rehab center. They open up at 9am - so on a Monday morning, I was off right away to when they opened. Their website said "Don't call, just bring them in." I wasn't the only one there this morning. I met 3 other friendly rescuers of a baby bunny, a mallard who was injured on Snelling Ave, and a small injured bird. The lady at the front desk was so polite with all of us. Asked us to kindly fill out a one-pager w our info, and general status of how we encountered the animal. And as a few others have noted, there was a spot at the bottom of the page to notate if you wanted to make a donation or not. What I loved was that there was NO pressure to donate as a rescuer. (I've been squeezed to donate $$$ at other locations...) But because they were so friendly and doing work that I cannot do, I was more than happy to donate a small amount. In fact the others did as well, probably because there was no pressure and we generally cared for the well-being of these animals. I will send them an email to follow up. Naturally, I want to make sure lil' Harry the Squirrel is rehab'd. He's a cutie... and I know leaving him with this professional, loving team was the best thing to do.

They're very knowledgeable and professional. I've never had a negative experience at the wildlife rehabilitation center and am so grateful there are people willing to work so hard to save animals. They make it so easy and are so compassionate. They'll let you know what they'll do to help the animals and if you ask they may even update you. Thank you for being hero's !
