ONE STAR -- AGGRESSIVE, THREATENING, AND COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL $200 in fuel charges after days…read moreuse. I paid Pembine Sport and Lawn $275 for an ATV rental from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. My purpose was to ride the trails to Goodman and visit my friend, a local business owner whose property sits directly along the trail system. I clearly told the man at the business that I intended to ride to Goodman. He never told me that Goodman was prohibited or outside the permitted riding area. Instead, he gave us confusing and contradictory information--saying that we could go there while also trying to discourage us because he did not believe we had enough time. We followed the trail system based on the information available to us. As we approached Goodman, we became confused and accidentally traveled approximately one to one-and-a-half miles on Highway 8. We understood that the ATV was not permitted there. Most importantly, we had already stopped at the trailhead before we even knew that he was tracking us or coming after us. Instead of recognizing that we had already stopped and were trying to correct a minor navigation mistake, he came rushing up behind us in a hostile and aggressive manner. He took the keys from me even though the machine was stopped at the trailhead, had not been damaged, and was not being abused. What made this encounter especially disturbing was the way he used surveillance as part of his intimidation. He was wearing Meta smart glasses and repeatedly emphasized, in a threatening tone, that everything was being recorded. He also claimed that his vehicle had a 360-degree camera capturing the entire encounter. He did not mention these cameras calmly for safety or documentation. He announced the recording aggressively while confronting and threatening us, as though the surveillance was another tool he could use to intimidate paying customers. A business owner tracking a customer, charging up behind him, seizing the keys, aggressively announcing that multiple cameras are recording, and turning a correctable trail mistake into a threatening confrontation is not normal or acceptable customer service. I had not damaged his machine, abused it, attempted to steal it, or ignored any direct instruction prohibiting travel to Goodman. If Goodman was forbidden, he should have clearly said so before accepting my $275. He cannot tell a customer that Goodman is reachable and then erupt when that customer gets close to Goodman. The encounter escalated into a physical altercation. He eventually returned the keys. Despite the confrontation and the time he took away from our rental, we reached my friend's property, stayed briefly, and returned the machine approximately 30 minutes early and in good condition. When we returned, another confrontation occurred after I stated that I intended to write an honest review. A woman who apparently owns or operates the business began yelling, "I own this place," as we were leaving. Instead of listening to an unhappy customer or addressing what had happened, ownership responded with even more hostility. My friend owns a business in the Goodman community and personally witnessed this experience. He is not happy about the way we were treated either. Let me be perfectly clear: getting temporarily lost does not give a business owner permission to pursue, threaten, intimidate, seize the keys from, or physically confront a paying customer--especially one who was already stopped at the trailhead before the owner arrived. The ATV was returned early and in good condition. The problem was the conduct of the people operating the business. I would never rent from Pembine Sport and Lawn again, and I strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere.

CON ARTISTS. These people are so shady, they deleted my review from their Google reviews. Notice…read morethe difference in their Google reviews which they control, from the commentary and scores here on Yelp which they do not control. If I could give them -10 stars I would. In 46 years of being in business, and in my opinion, this is the shadiest business I have ever come across in my life. They are not trustworthy and again, in my opinion, are scam artists. Last year my brother in law and I rented 2 wave runners for the day. When we got there my "spidey- senses" were alerted when a technician was checking in an ATV returned the night before and the manager stopped and said "no, write it back up, there's a scratch on the decal of the door. $480" We video-ed the delivery of the 2 wet bikes and off we went. I have owned wave-runners since 1993. I have had 7. I know how to care for, use and repair them. Upon return the technician checked everything, got on his back and crawled under the double trailer to check the intake grates and impellers, signed off on the paper work (which we failed to photograph) ... off we went. 45 mins later I get a call. Allegedly, one of the bikes sucked up some fishing line and caused wear to the O-ring. (Impeller ring) More the $1000 of alleged damage. We had taken out the insurance, but still would have been hundreds out of pocket. We immediately drove the 20 minutes back and the "show" began. From behind the counter, Prop #1 the "fishing line" closely followed by behind the counter Prop #2, the "worn" O-ring. Most important part of the show, Prop #3, the altered paper work. We demanded and were repeatedly denied the ability to speak to the technician. Lied to about the paper work, and taken as rubes and idiots. In full disclosure things got so heated and I raised so much hell, the cops were called. When threatened by that peach of a manager I insisted they be called because I wanted the police to see the conduct of a business in their community. There was a point of comedy.. when the peachy manager told me that I could no longer rent from them ever again, I looked her straight in the face and said, "That's funny, I made the decision on the drive here!" Ultimately and appropriately they dropped the claim if I promised to allow the charges for the rental to go through on my Amex. Of course I would, as prior to the attempted coercion, we got the services we paid for. In my opinion, these are the biggest group of cheaters and charlatans I have ever encountered. BEWARE. If they are willing to delete negative reviews from Google in order to fool and LIE TO prospective customers about the caliber of their service rating what else are they cheating on?

We rented full gear, (helmets, pants, jackets, boot covers) and they were all very clean and in great shape. The sleds were 2021 models and in tip top shape. Rental rates were very affordable and lowest in the area. I unfortunately had my car keys fall out of my pocket on the trail while driving to return the sleds. The staff went above and beyond trying to help the situation. They had two staff members take sleds and back track the 18-mile trail to our cabin in an attempt to locate my keys. Another staff drove our group back to our cabin to search. Truly grateful to the Toy Shop staff for all their help. Ultimately we couldn't find the keys and they drove me to Rhinelander to pick up a rental car. They let me leave my car in the parking lot for almost a week while I returned to Chicago to pick up my spare key set and fly back up to retrieve the car. Not ideal, but given the circumstance.. the Toy Shop really really helped me out. Thank you very much to the Toy Shop Staff. Got to know the owner a bit and it's a small family business, local to Eagle River. Great people with great service. Wouldn't rent from anyone else.
