Rented snowmobiles (sleds) from Toy Shop. The staff was excellent and informative. Our group was not first time riders, but if we were we would have felt comfortable and fully prepared by the staff with all safety and tail information. We rented full gear, (helmets, pants, jackets, boot covers) and they were all very clean and in great shape. The sleds were 2021 models and in tip top shape. Rental rates were very affordable and lowest in the area. I unfortunately had my car keys fall out of my pocket on the trail while driving to return the sleds. The staff went above and beyond trying to help the situation. They had two staff members take sleds and back track the 18-mile trail to our cabin in an attempt to locate my keys. Another staff drove our group back to our cabin to search. Truly grateful to the Toy Shop staff for all their help. Ultimately we couldn't find the keys and they drove me to Rhinelander to pick up a rental car. They let me leave my car in the parking lot for almost a week while I returned to Chicago to pick up my spare key set and fly back up to retrieve the car. Not ideal, but given the circumstance.. the Toy Shop really really helped me out. Thank you very much to the Toy Shop Staff. Got to know the owner a bit and it's a small family business, local to Eagle River. Great people with great service. Wouldn't rent from anyone else. read more

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE!!! Rented snowmobiles from here this past Mar. and had an epic time riding the trails around Eagle River, it truly is a sled-head's paradise. What sold me on Toy Shop was the inclusion of GPS tracking units on their entire rental fleet of sleds & a phone # to call with any issues; getting lost or stuck is no fun, so knowing that someone could tell me where I was or send help based on the GPS was a huge relief. In addition, all the sleds were newer and in good condition. Their rental process is the smoothest I've seen; they send you all the necessary forms via e-mail so you can complete & submit back to them ahead of time, avoiding sweating while filling out forms in all your gear and saving time the day of your rental. Friendly, knowledgeable staff pointed me to some great routes. Would 100% rent from Toy Shop again and plan to this season! read more

My experience with this business was excellent... until they claimed that I returned their pontoon with damage. It went COMPLETELY downhill from there. Please read in its entirety to be warned on why NOT to do business with this company. During the boat inspection, their employee had mentioned some issues with the boat (mostly minor) that existed before we had even driven off with the boat. One of the issues that was mentioned was a dent in the front of the boat. Me, as well as the other 3 passengers, heard him mention it. When it came time to return the boat, all went smoothly, the boat was docked at the exact return time, and I arrived at their facility to let them know it was returned at the correct spot. They then emailed me that I "unfortunately returned their boat with damage" and that they would assess the damages and invoice me the cost. There was a picture of the dent they were alleging we caused included in the email. I attempted to email them back that their employee mentioned a dent during the inspection and wanted them to at least explain what damage their employee was talking about in relation to ours. The picture they sent only included enough to show one part of the boat and only the damage they were focused on. I received no response for the day. The next day they emailed a printout of the usual cost of replacement for various parts of the boat as well as what . Then they listed what they were going to charge us for damages claiming they were going to save us money by fixing it mostly themselves without taking it to a repair shop. No mention was made of the damage their employee informed us of during the inspection. No explanation of what already existed vs what they were accusing us of. No before and after pictures. No pictures of the rest of the boat. Just "here's damage to the boat, pay for it" with no discussion. I responded, again, asking that they address the damage their employee mentioned during the inspection and that we don't believe we are responsible for the magnitude of the costs they were asking. The charges incurred were $700+. Oh, and they casually threw in that there was propeller damage without any pictures or mentioning it in the previous email. No response again to my 2nd email. Then, the final email came today, with a charge to my credit card for the price they originally quoted. No one called during the entire time, very important to remember. No one responded to my emails I sent. Not one discussion was had before they charged me. Only their emails alleging we caused damage, that we were to pay for it, oh and by the way, if we disputed it they THREATENED that we would be charged the FULL price of the repair plus rental time that the boat was unavailable. I then had to call and really hash out my frustration. I was greeted with an immediate corporate tone once they had determined who I was, and no apology, no explanation of their failure to communicate. The excuse for no email responses? That's a "different" email address they don't actually receive for 2-3 days. WHAT??? Why are you leaving it in your signature line of your emails for this then? She then claimed she tried to call me twice! And that there was a woman in my voicemail message!!! I received no calls, no voicemails, and I'm a man. CLEARLY, no call was made. She even correctly cited my phone number, so why no calls??? When I questioned the lack of communication, she claimed it was my fault because their email was in the waiver I signed. When we first rented the boat. That I RECEIVED NO COPY OF. This business clearly has no qualms with blaming damage on people without going any extra distance to maintain communication before charging them insane amounts of money. If you're going to allege someone caused damage, you MUST have preferred method of contact in your email, preferred time frame you wish to be contacted before charges will be made, and ACTUALLY CALL THE PERSON YOU'RE ACCUSING. I'm sorry to be wordy, but please learn from my experience and go with someone else. read more

Not customer friendly. They don't take calls on Sunday so I couldn't move my reservation. I made a separate reservation for another day. When I called to cancel the first reservation they would not give me a full refund despite the fact that they don't take calls on Sundays. They said the refund policy is based on late cancellations by others. They should treat each customer on a case by case basis. This was a simple fix caused by unique circumstances. They could have made it right but chose to protect themselves instead of making happy customers. read more

I don't get the bad reviews. Recently rented a 2 up. Didn't read the reviews until on our way to pick it up. They were super friendly, got us on our way quickly, and gave us great instructions. The sled was nice, we rode some distance over 2 days, and had no complaints. We caught some ice, freak accident and hit a tree. We messed the sled up. (Thank God we took out insurance). Eric was more than fair in settling up with us, and was a great guy to work with. All his employees were friendly, and helpful. Price was right, equipment was nice. Worst rental place for sleds ever, if you want a broken down, aged, blown out suspension, worn out fan cooled 550, this is your place, AND if you point out their rental is not in good shape, the response is its you! (Owner must have been KGB, sleds were in 70s Soviet condition).... "We know snowmobiling, we know rentals! You may have been snowmobiling since the 80s, so how would you know if we give you a junk snowmobile?" Do your self a favor, go somewhere else that gives a hoot about customers experience, if this could be a negative star, it would have 5 negatives this place is so worthless read more

We rented seven sleds from Toy Shop. They were courteous, provided a quick checkout, and sleds were all new. No shenanigans about refueling charges as we've had down the road (when we filled at a gas station a mile away and drove promptly there to return). Will be renting from Toy Shop again. read more

Great for rentals! Eagle River doesn't really have much anymore for rentals (*cough Heckel's cough*) and so we opted to rent off the water and bring it over to the chain. They were really friendly, cheaper than other places in town and very flexible with their schedule and days. During the busy times they allow a 24-hour rental (for the full day price) because its too hard to have everyone return at the same time! Great service is hard to come by up north but as we pulled out of the parking lot the employee said "have fun out there and thanks for your business!" Well said! read more

My husband and I recently visited Eagle River and had a day to spare, so we rented snowmobiles. The Toy Shop was the only place that had rentals available on a Friday. We rented two 2ups since that was all they had available. The woman up front did our paperwork and got us our gear, but she didn't seem to know anything about the snowmobiles we were renting (i.e. do they have heated handgrips) Eric gave us a great route to take. It was a beautiful ride and a fun day. The trails were pretty clearly marked, and I never really felt lost, though we did get turned around once or twice. We had no problems with our sleds the entire day. I have never been snowmobiling before. We had a great time and would definitely return. read more

Giving this place one star is a stretch. The pontoon boat we rented was out dated and slow with a motor that was best suited for a small fishing boat. We returned it on time only to be called the next day saying we damaged the prop and that we had to pay $100 to have it "looked at." After it was "looked at" they told us that while a new prop would cost $300, they would only charge us $100 to repair it. They said with our card on file they would just charge it. We said we would fight the charge since we are 100% certain we did not damage this boat. We haven't heard back. Be very careful if you decide to rent from here. Inspect your item. Maybe take some pictures or a video. They aren't an honest business. It's unfortunate. read more

The Toyshop of Eagle River is a good honest business owned by a local family striving to do their best for the community. I am also a local business owner and actually a competitor to the Toyshop. Based on a few inaccurate reviews I read I felt the need to post my opinion....Number one the Toyshop does not rent old snowmobiles, The snowmobile rental fleet is in it's entirety less than five years old..... Number two somebody was complaining about pontoon boat that they rented that had too small of an engine, This particular unit does have a smaller then average engine however the price is reduced as well. Number three having been in the service and rental business for 20+ years there is always people that damage propellers and don't realize that they have done it and never want to pay for. I recommend the Toyshop to my customers for services that I do not offer and I have never been given negative feedback from them... these are good honest folks to purchase or rent from, Eric the owner is always willing to work with his customers to maintain their satisfaction. Great service great people! Not sure what side of the bed the others woke up on but this shop is top notch! ATV trails are new, and it is great to have them in Vilas county! But the toy shop does not own them so conditions should not reflect on their business. We rented pontoon boats, jet skis and snowmobiles and they are always super nice!!! DO NOT expect much for ATVing, 85% of trails are dirt firetruck roads, and asphalt roads, SHARING THEM WITH auto, trucks etc. almost ran into an 18-wheeler, logging, in 1 area. When they gave us the map & showed us all the roads NOT ATV TRAILS, we didn't want to waste our money, & said we didn't want to go, but they couldn't get hold of the owner to give us our $100 deposit back. I base my vacations around ATV rentals WITHOUT tour guides, this was our cup of tea, no tour guides, BUT... When I made the reservations for my husband & I 9 months ago they said by August we will have miles of ATV trails available, these WERE NOT traditional trails, but dirt roads used by other vehicles, not fun when you don't know if you are going to run into a car around the corners. When I talked to the owner the next day, to at least get a $100 credit because it was misrepresentation when we made the reservations, Eric said this was leaps and bounds for them, that back 9 months ago, they had nothing. MY POINT!!!! They had numerous opportunities to tell me. They were quite happy to change the reservation 3 times due to weather, because they didn't have any other reservations!!! So Erics point of, "we had this reserved, couldn't rent it out," didn't pan out, there weren't any other customers wanting to rent ATV's and we certainly didn't see ANY OTHERs out on the roads anywhere!!! He could have done the right thing & given a credit for such a miserable time, but now I will have to dispute it with my credit card company!!! read more
