Went there yesterday for fishing poles for my grandkids. They had some in the bargain tent on a rack that said $17.99 so I grabbed two and another gentleman grabbed one. They rang up for $24.99. I can't believe what happened to my husband and I at this store. Please be aware that they have a no return policy on ALL electronics, trolling motors, crossbows, tree stands and many other high dollar items. These items that can retail at over $3000.00 and are merchandised in fully outfitted impressive manufacturer displays are non refundable, no matter how soon you return, no matter that the item is unused and still in the box. Also, you will only be notified of the policy once your receipt prints!!! I am absolutely livid!!! The manager "Bob" informed me that he was not required to post an ALL SALES FINAL notice near the merchandise because it is printed on the receipt, there is a notice in the box, and he even told me that it is posted on the (trolling motor) manufacturers website. I was stunned. Firstly, why would I be at the manufacturers website when buying from a local retailer? Also, what good is a receipt notification and a notice INSIDE the product packaging? Northwoods is one of those kinds of places where you go to get exactly what you needed (for me, this trip included hip waders for putting in our dock) and for the treasures you had no idea you were looking for (like a couple of Farm Boy brand hats for just $1.00 each!). I've seen the signs along the expressway for years and we finally go. Very cool store. But they let me down at the register. They clearly had something marked wrong, the code and the sale sign match the code on the item and they would not honor the price. Very shortsighted for the manager on site today. We had great service in side but when we went out to check out the tent sale, the ladies working it were just rude. Let me explain... as we were going in the young lady bringing in stock she was told to bring in both ladies at the counter yelled at her in front of everyone then proceded to laugh loudly about it. It would be a good place to do some Xmas shopping, too, due to the variety. Northwoods staff are very polite and helpful without a doubt and professional. They are very busy and they do make mistakes on occasion at the register but I'd say it's just that a honest mistake, most of the mistakes I have found were in the consumer's favor. But nevertheless the wife and I can spend hours in Northwoods and still not see all there is to see. How have I never reviewed Northwoods? Just go with a sense of humor, you'll be fine. I feel confident in saying the store is organized by a man - not being mean but from the perspective of a female brain walking through this store is like ... huh? whaa?? ... ... ... It is several barns (?) stuck together with everything you can think of for sale. Kayaks, bows, ammo, Cheez-its, shoes, bird seed, fishing rods, tents, Christmas ornaments, stationary, spices. Tools. Seriously. They have everything. If you can handle the organization the deals are usually amazing. We got a 10-man tent (Coleman) for $200 less than retail. Not everything is an amazing deal, I'm sure....but I haven't found anything in there cheaper on Amazon (well, the stuff that I'd like to have anyway). And if I haven't highlighted it enough...the experience is chaotic, but fun and I guarantee you'll buy something. read more

Once you get past the fact that the place is massive and no one really knows where anything is, it's pretty awesome. You can find almost anything you need for the outdoors at this place. We were looking for some red light flashlights and found a two pack that had white, green, and red options for a great price. The young man helping my husband knew enough to be able to help him check a few places, but these ended up being with the rest of the flashlights. read more

Loved the store, lots of inventory....but I purchased a climbing tree stand from them and when I got it home I discovered it wouldn't hold onto the tree. When I looked online I found that it has been recalled by the manufacturer due to it not holding and people fell out of trees. When I brought it back I was told that I had to deal with the manufacturer. They wouldn't take it back or even issue me a store credit. Now I have a useless $200 tree stand. This was another stop on my Michigan initiation with the inlaws. This place has EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING. This really is THE place to go for anything outdoors related. Fyi, this place does not price match for goods located cheaper at nearby stores. I found an Offshore Tackle release that Frank's Great Outdoors had for $1 cheaper. Not a big deal but when you buy four of them it adds up. Check Frank's prices before going here because they are same price or cheaper. As big as this place is, they do not offer any discount to military veterans or police/fire. I found this out on my last visit to the store. read more

To start the staff for the most part are rude and don't understand their own products. We went to ring up one item and she insisted it was $130 until my son, not the staff, went back to get another one with a tag marked down to $30 to which she responded " oh I've sold 3 of those today. " One week later we came back to return 3 items. Two of the items didn't work and 1 of the items was a diamond knife sharpener that was handed to me by an employee but ended up not being what I was looking for. I had the receipt stating my $400 purchase but apparently that wasn't enough. FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO RETURN SOMETHING HERE. KNOW THAT THE PRODUCT MUST BE BROKEN OR IN PERFECT SHAPE WITH THE PACKAGING IN PERFECT CONDITION. THEIR PLAN IS TO SELL IT BACK TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER, EVEN AN ANIMAL CALL THAT HAS HAS SOMEONE ELSES MOUTH ON IT. This place has a ton of products but they have permanently lost my business over $27. We've been to Northwoods twice now on our trips back home to the UP, and now it's hard for us to drive by on I-75 without stopping in. Be prepared to add an hour or two to your travel time. LOTS of stuff, generally very good prices, excellent service. We end up buying things we didn't know we needed (or that existed) til we saw it on their shelves. Gotta agree with the other reviewers that the place seems to be laid out more or less randomly. Our most recent stop--two days ago--was exceptional. My wife wanted to buy a re-curve bow and didn't want to do so online. Jim, a guy in the bow department, spent probably close to an hour with her, asking questions, demonstrating models, giving her lessons, sharing info, telling stories, etc. And he didn't just spend all this time with her because the store wasn't busy--it was. He had customers in line waiting for him. It was quite a pleasant experience, and we are very grateful for Jim's time and expertise. Also--buy some Pinconning sharp cheddar cheese. The staff were generally knowledgable at where stuff is located and how to use it. When we were up to the checkout 1 item did not ring up the price listed and they did nothing to make it right. This place is packed to the gills with all things outdoors. They have everything from overflowing aisles of lures to fire rings to bug spray. They also have a fireworks tent for the 4th of July and they stay open until midnight around the holidays. I know it's an outlet but the place is sort of haphazardly put together. You can find radios in three parts of the store. It always makes you feel like you're missing out on something. The prices are GREAT and if all else fails, it can't hurt to go here to see if they carry it. Plenty of parking, even if you're about to hit the road and have an RV or 5th wheel. read more

Horrible experience. Tried to use the bathroom... Three women's stalls were unusable; one covered with poop, one clogged with tp, and one out of order. I tried to use the men's but there was no tp or paper towels. We then tried to look at bows but there were about 10 people waiting and no one working that department. Stumbled on the gem this past summer. It's almost overwhelming with all it has to offer. We don't hunt or camp and we aren't particularly outdoorsy, but we grill and smoke meat. Their wood chips are a great price and variety. They had some things we needed for sausage making. Their range of products is extraordinary. We do have a boat and they have a section for that. They also carry lots of food, from jerky to cheese and candy. I'd imagine this would be paradise for a hunter or fisherman, but we are none of these and still enjoy stopping every couple of months. read more

I ordered twice from this company 1 day apart. It has been over a week now and I still haven't received my items and I only live a state away. If you need your items within a normal shipping timeline I would suggest shopping somewhere else. They use USPS instead of UPS which is the kiss of death for people who order online.
