They did everything they said you were going to do very well I think I would recommend them to anyone

My wife and I are on a cross-country drive and bike trip. We started from home in Southern California and are headed to the Finger Lakes region in New York. We are trying to ride at least one rail-trail in each state we enter. We were all set to ride the Pere Marquette RT out of Midland this morning when I discovered a broken spoke. Ray's was not too far, and looked like a good bet, so we drove over and waited for them to open. I brought my wheel, and some extra spokes I had the foresight to bring along on the trip (Not every shop will have every length, especially in a straight pull spoke) to the service desk, but was told they couldn't get to it today (Sunday), but could probably have it Tuesday (They're closed Mondays), Well, that just wouldn't work for us. We have to be on our way first thing Tuesday morning, and we'd miss out on the RT. I briefly explained our trip, etc., and they said they'd do what they could to fix it that same day, allowing us to do the RT on Monday, and continue our trip Tuesday, on schedule. Here it is, Sunday afternoon, and the repair us complete, and all is well. Brad, at the Midland Rays made it happen, and they have my gratitude (and, of course, a little of my money, but only a little!). Their website shows that they have many Specialized shoes on sale but when I ordered one in my size, they canceled the order and said that they are out of my size in that color. When I asked what color they had in my size they said none. And then they tried to sell me a shoe that was bigger than my size and double the price. read more

I recently came across a flyer at Delta while I was walking to class. It said: DRIATHLON 5k kayak, 20k bike 5k run. Let's paint a picture for a moment: my favorite food is anything BBQ - ribs, pulled pork, brisket. I am 5'11'', 250 lbs, and I have this cockamamie idea: let's run a triathlon! I tell you what... I did not know what I was getting my self into... You see, I recently have had a few life changing events in my life. I felt the need to maybe inspire others to do more, to push harder, to grind a little harder in life. To show people with Bipolar that it's not the end, nor is it a death sentence as so many fear it to be. I started researching bikes for the triathlon and it was like a black hole of endless google binges. I decided to go to all the bike stores in the area - 7 total in the 60 mile surrounding area. I wanted to see each manufacturer's frames, welds, and carbon construction. I wanted to learn everything about the bike I needed. I needed someone to sit there and fill my head with knowledge, and not to just sell me a bike. I needed someone to sit with the noob and teach me the ABCs of bicycles. I found that at RAY'S BYCYCLE SHOP. I went into the Bay City shop and Brent Werner and his dog Lola walked me to the middle of the store full of bikes, and just laid it out. We talked gravel vs. road, we talked about components and group set and everything in between for about 4 hours. It felt like I was interviewing a famous singer and we were talking about his favorite song he wrote. I never felt as if I was bothering him with my pad of paper and millions of questions. I went to a few more bike shops and looked at more bikes. but I kept thinking of how nice that guy was, and how all these other guys are trying to sell me a bike I didn't need, that I would run for one season and want to ghost ride into a gravel pit after one race. I did the research and knew what I wanted, but bicycles are expensive, so between my GoFundMe donors and my savings I was still going to need a sponsor to help bring the cost down. So, I called the owner of Ray's Bike Shop to see if I could meet with him. I met him at his Midland store, and we sat down and talked. I asked him to read my story and told him my mission. Brad Alvesteffer was inspired by my story and wanted to stand behind me and be a part of my team by sponsoring me! Brad and I talked bikes for another few hours and I decided I wanted a semi-gravel road bike. I picked out a beautiful rocket ship of a bike. A TREK DOMINE 3rdth Gen SL6. It was a deep, dark, mysterious red. She is so beautiful. It has a Shimano Ultegra group set and when you hit about 20 mph it sounds like bees trying to attack you, so you just want to peddle faster because it's so bad ass. How the carbon frame manipulates each crack and rock that you run over during the ride, it is like riding on a full suspension bike without any shocks. It is truly a mind-boggling piece of engineering. Where the wish bone and the seat post meet and move freely without breaking is as dumbfounding as water going over the Niagara Falls; my brain just can't make sense of it. I'm 250 lbs and it doesn't break. The engineering that Trek has put into the front end is another mind-boggling feat of engineering. It can take a beating with ease, as if there is a motorcycle steering damper on the handlebars. It's a truly beautiful thing. Out of all the bikes I rode HARD and returned sweaty and wet, and there were many, there is no way I would change my choice with this amazing bike! We sat and talked accessories for another few hours it seemed, and he talked me through each one, showing me how to use each of them. I ended up with the Bontrager computer system. It was exactly what I needed. We put aero bars on it a few weeks later. At that point is when she really started talking to me and We fell in love! This bike is fast, and it is not just the peddler pushing the bike. There is no way I would be ready for this triathlon without Brad Alveseffer and his team at RAY'S BIKE SHOP! THANK YOU EVERYONE!! We rented two fat tire bikes from the brand new store in Midland- City Forest today. Amazing customer service over the phone from the McDonald St store from a female customer service rep. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. She made us excited to ride! They brought bikes from another store to have them ready for us. When we arrived at the new store....the bikes were ready for us to go. Excellent service at the new store! The gentleman went above and beyond in helping us. I gave this store 5 stars because of our experience today. However, we have visited the Clare store in the past (over the summer of 2018) and were not impressed by the customer service. Also, we messaged the Clare store, 2 days ago, (for proximity reasons) to rent the bikes and are still waiting on a call back. This store does not equal the same excellent customer that the Midland stores offer. read more

Fantastic! Great people. Very friendly and knowledgeable. My bike needed service and they got it done in about five days . Came back a week later for a flat tire - it was fixed in about 15 minutes . Alex, Taylor and Jim are fantastic. Ended up buying a bike - for my wife and we tested every possible option there and they were so accommodating in making it happen. Eventually we settled on what we wanted to buy but color options were not available due to high demand. These guys however found every possible option and made it happen and procured a bike with the option that my wife liked. She was very happy . They are great people! They go out of the way to accommodate but won't pressure you into anything that you don't like. The bike shop is also spacious and very clean. We checked out three other bike shops - and hands down this is the best in the entire tricity region. read more

I placed an online order through the webiste. I received an order confirmation via email, however the next day I recevied an email stating that my order could not be fulfilled because the ordered item was no longer in stock. Five minutes later, i received another email from the store with an offer to purchase the same item for 25% more than the order that was confirmed the day before. I protested that it seemed odd that they first said the item was not available but then immediately sent me a link for the same item at a higher price. I have bought three brand new bikes at Ray's on North Eastman Road (The city forest location). What sets them apart is their staff, who are great to work with. They stand behind the products they sell and honestly care about the customer having a great user experience with whatever bike they purchase. I actually like this place, except for the occasionally crabby sales manager. Ok selection on bikes. I asked for a certain bike to buy, "we don't stock those" why? "because nobody buys them"... Of course nobody buys them, you don't have any to sell.... geeze People aren't going to buy something you don't have and don't offer to get for them... This bike shop needs a good salesman that can make things happen. They had no Kids bikes one time I came in and asked to see them.. "We don't sell very many so we don't stock many".. I said, It looks to me like you don't stock any... I started walking out, stopped at the front desk, turned around and asked, "Are you going to let me walk out of here without selling me a bike"? I mean after all, I came in to buy a bike.. "well I guess we could order one for you"... I said, "that would be great, but I don't want to put you out of your way" The sales staff is clueless how to sell bikes. For example kids bikes. They think because Specialized Kids bikes are expensive, they don't sell.. #1 They don't sell because the sales staff doesn't know how to sell them, meaning, relating to the parent why a high quality bike will be a better experience for the child. #2 they don;t stock them. It's so easy. People who walk into their store know they could also walk into a walmart and buy some cheap heavy piece of junk. Wow, wake up salesman, your 50% finished making a sale and you haven't done anything except ask a walk-in customer if you can help them.!! Another time, I needed to trade in a Mint condition high quality Specialized Kids bike for the next larger size Specialized Kids bike... What? you won't trade in the same brand you sell? First of all, the bike I'm trading in, is a 320 dollar kids bike new. At the same time, I wanted to order a 460 dollar larger kids bike. They could have easily made 100 dollars re-selling the mint used bike, plus had a sale of a new bike. They wouldn't do it. I drove to Saginaw, traded in the bike, came home with a brand new bike for my Daughter... simple. I know I shouldn't care, but I like these people, so I do care. read more

I took my road bike in to have new derailer pullies installed. Got home and inspected their work only to find that wheels were installed in wrong order ie tensioner wheel on top and centering wheel on bottom. Took it back and they cheerfully corrected their mistake. Upon getting home I inspected their work only to find they had installed bottom/tensioner wheel backwards. So I called them. They readily admitted their mistake, apologized profusely and asked me to return so they can fix their mistake. I was looking for a good bike mechanic when I went their and I'm still looking for one! Bought a used bike from the Clare location. Kind of pricey, but then there are few bikes and prices are high. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They let me test drive the bike and were helpful. I have purchased 4 bikes in 10 years (they keep getting stolen)and this shop is by far the best I have used. I live in Mt. Pleasant and our local shop is terrible, with rude owners and staff. Making the drive to Clare was worth it. Outstanding bike shop! read more

Wouldn't go back. I bought a Thule fit kit and needed to install it in the parking lot to see if I needed to buy a longer bar. It was very awkward trying to get adjustments on both sides of the car locked down in the right location and I asked for a hand from their service guy. In fact I asked three times, got a different excuse each time. If I go to the Stable in Saginaw, I always get great service, but it's a longer drive. Next time, I'll take the drive. My advice is, go to the Stable! read more
