I hired this company to install luxury vinyl plank flooring at my second home in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. During the in-home measurement visit, I narrowed my choices to two products. I verbally selected Titan Genesis Restoration Pine which was encouraged by the gentleman taking in-home measurements, and that is what I expected to receive. He said this style was more durable, 100% waterproof, will not require replacing as soon as the other one, and it is trendier.
On the written estimate, the document listed the Titan brand with a color name that does not exist in the Titan line. The color written on the estimate actually belongs to a different brand (Shaw Floorté), not Titan. Because of that mismatch, the floor that was ordered and installed was not the product I selected, and it did not match the brand/color combination on the paperwork, as that one does not exist.
I was never called (my f/t residence is in NJ) to say the job was done, the balance of payment was not requested as told it would be, and pictures/video was not sent as promised.
The owner/seller called me several weeks later, 2 weeks after I told her assistant that the wrong floor was installed, not to expect me to pay the balance, and no reason to have owner call me back. However, Sandra the owner did call me after an additional 2 wks after getting notice that I decided to dispute the 50% deposit I paid with Visa. Since she did not own up and correct her error, and maybe next summer I would have it redone by another merchant it wasn't fair for me to be out this deposit, then start again with another deposit elsewhere. Sandra said I can't keep the floor for free, but the current installed floor is of no use to them. It would be junked. And she was not offering to put down the correct floor at her expense in order to receive full payment originally expected. I get it. It becomes a higher financial loss for her.
The interaction unfortunately became unpleasant. I was spoken to in a way that felt unprofessional. She was yelling at me, saying that I must be a rich lady keeping contractors' money, and that I am a nasty person. She was angry that I posted a review on Yelp; kept saying it repeatedly. She wanted me to shoulder 50% of the financial responsibility of her error. Once again, she did not offer to remove the floor and install the correct one. I wouldn't trust this merchant not to leave me without a floor; rip it out and not install correct one. I understand if we have an agreement to correct the error, she is obligated. But I don't want to have to go to court to prove she again did not fulfill her obligation. Had she called me before I flew back to SC 2 wks after the job was completed, admitted the error, and offered to immediately rip up and install correct floor I would certainly have said yes. I also would have halted them had they sent me pictures early in the installation. But her emotional responses to me and threatening me with a lawyer further seems retaliatory and in bad faith.
My review is based solely on my personal experience with the product selection process, the documentation error, and the owner's response when I verbalized her error. I hope this information is helpful to future customers so they can double-check that the written brand and color match what they chose and to be on site for the job.
Picture on the left is style I chose. Picture on right is style installed. I have additional pictures of the back with labels for brand and corresponding color.
