This is a gas station and convenience store that also includes information on Betty and Barney Hill's UFO abduction in 1961. So that's fun. You'll find a write up of the Betty & Barney Hill story, some photos and a newspaper article in the back corner by the ATM machine and drink coolers. The store carries beer, soda, water, snacks, candy, cleaning, camping and car items. If you are a customer, they also have a public restroom you can use. Prices are inline with the area and the convenience. There is a UFO mural outside and UFO souveniers by the cashier including stuffed aliens, blankets and t-shirts. This is both a fun and convenient stop. There is also a Barney & Betty Hill roadside plaque further north by the Indian head resort if you want to add that as a stop. Happy adventuring! read more

So honestly there isn't much special about this particular gas station architecturally, or what's offered for service or products. Our stop was short and happen to be per chance. The mural with the alien caught my attention where I'm like "ummmm wtf is this?" but then I read that this was the site of the first modern alien abduction story (I don't know what to believe about UFO/aliens. I'm basically agnostic about it, I'm open to the idea but don't really feel strongly about aliens being real. However, I do believe that maybe we have been visited before; please reference 'Chariot of the Gods' by Erich von Däniken, this is why I say the first 'modern' UFO experience) and I was like "oh shit, I know this story!" yet had no clue this occured here in the granite state. There's photocopied articles on presentation boards hanging up on the walls, the bathroom supposedly plastered with articles but was closed at the time of our visit. Government conspiracy to keep the truth from the public???? Probably, more likely, a busted porcelin god. I digress. Whether or not this is a true story, it was kind of cool to visit the site. I would never go out of my way to visit here as there isn't really anything exciting to see. Just trinkets, t-shirts, and gas-station nutrition with the main feature being gas for the car. There are little alien trinkets and t-shirts to say you were at this modest gas station in the White Mountains where this famous abduction took place. My wife got excited with an alien doll with velcro hands. We bought it, it is now her co-pilot secured to her seat. A reminder that this is a weird, curious, wonderful existence we live. The only reason to ever review a gas station is because it has something unique. That might be an understatement for certain in this case. Notch Express is the UFO-laden gas station to commemorate the alledged abduction of Betty and Barney Hill by UFO aliens in this area back in September of 1961. There is a mural painted on the outside with a UFO/alien theme. Funny to me because my first "encounter" with this place was on a trip wee early in the morning to go hiking in the White Mountains. I needed gas so stopped here to get gas and some caffeine. I didn't even notice the mural when entering the gas station/convenience store. Then, I entered the unisex, one person, restroom. OMG! I was not quite awake enough for this and it startled me. Sitting there I suddenly noticed that on every wall was plastered newspaper articles and pictures pertaining to UFOs. What had I stumbled on?? Ummm.... I hadn't heard of the Betty and Barney Hill incident yet and now I knew. I took pictures of my surroundings and my new venture and looked up what all this meant once I got home. It is interesting and some things, this one in particular, get a label "Only in New Hampshire". It's just a gas station with a little market if u need supplies. There's alien schotzkes & a story on a wall in printed papers. Gas was 3.29 a gallon for regular. It was very pricey. read more

A pretty general gas station in most aspects - coffee, snacks, drinks, beer - but you gotta go for the alien appeal. Check out the mural out front commemorating the abduction of Barney and Betty Hill, then go read a bunch of the UFO reports plastered Pepe Silvia style over the walls while you browse the snack aisle. Hands down one of my favorite places to go while visiting the notch. I love how the place is like a Betty and Barney hill museum. It's located on the same road that the Hills were allegedly abducted by Aliens on. If you love UFO folklore this is a must see location. When you visit make sure to buy a shirt of a grey alien. read more
