My review is strictly about the Convenience Store section.
This is not the place to eat. Stale overpriced food, pizza sitting under the hot light warmer all day long, food that shouldn't be served to livestock let alone humans.
It was 1 a.m., I was having blood sugar issues and needed something to eat fast. The usual places I'd eat were closed, and so I tempted fate and went for some of the terribly priced food at Maplewood Convenience Store.
I had eaten there before. I knew I was about to get ripped off. The prices there are horrendous and you know you are getting ripped off when you buy food there. It's a last resort. But at the same time, you expect the food to be at least moderately edible.
For the same price that I could have got food for four to five days elsewhere, I got a few minuscule items, including a $5 cheeseburger. When the cheeseburger was rung up, the cashier actually looked at it a bit funny. I honestly felt like she was taken back in surprise a bit like she was thinking "Cheeseburger? When is the last time we cooked a cheeseburger?" But it was just a look and I needed to get home and eat.
I got home and opened up my $5 cheeseburger. I touched the top of the bun to open it and look what was inside and it didn't feel like a bun at all.
It didn't even feel real it was so petrified. The top of the bun was so hard that I honestly think I might have broken my teeth had I tried to bite into it.
I picked it up and my fingers sunk through the bottom of it as if it was made of sticky pudding. There was nothing left of the bottom side of the bun other than soggy mush. As mentioned, I was having a blood sugar issue. I needed to eat immediately. I couldn't just bring it back.
I tried to salvage the situation by taking the rock hard bun off the top and scraping the sticky mush mess of a bun off the bottom (it was actually fairly hard to scrape off, as if it had regressed back into dough it was so sticky and soggy). I got my own bun and cheese out and put the salvaged hamburger meat in between them. Sadly I had little choice, I needed to eat, and so I choked down the "burger". BThe insides of the burger looked like someone had cooked it half on a burner and half off (half of it was way overdone, the other half was red rare). The cooked half actually scratched my throat going down, it was really super dried out. Beef jerky isn't that dry. Desert sand isn't that dry.
I pounded on the top of the bun to see how much force it would take to get through it. There are literally some wooden doors that would have broken apart before this hard bun top did. Scientists should be looking at how they manage to get a simple bun top to get so hard.
During the eating ordeal, my cat came around to see what was going on. I tried to feed him a tiny piece of the meat. He smelled it and then he rightfully tried to bury it before walking away.
Remember, this wasn't some cheap budget-priced burger. This is what you get for a $5 burger at Maplewood.
Getting gas here is fine, I get gas here all the time. The pumps are fairly new, there are quite a lot of them, all goes smooth and fast. I just don't recommend going inside to get anything to eat.
If someone is literally twisting your arm and trying to force you to eat here, I'd advise you to just go ahead and let them break your arm. If you do actually give in and eat something from here, avoid the hot foods. read more
