The mural with the alien caught my attention where I'm like "ummmm wtf is this?" but then I read that this was the site of the first modern alien abduction story (I don't know what to believe about UFO/aliens. I'm basically agnostic about it, I'm open to the idea but don't really feel strongly about aliens being real. However, I do believe that maybe we have been visited before; please reference 'Chariot of the Gods' by Erich von Däniken, this is why I say the first 'modern' UFO experience) and I was like "oh shit, I know this story!" yet had no clue this occured here in the granite state. There's photocopied articles on presentation boards hanging up on the walls, the bathroom supposedly plastered with articles but was closed at the time of our visit. Government conspiracy to keep the truth from the public???? Probably, more likely, a busted porcelin god. I digress. Whether or not this is a true story, it was kind of cool to visit the site. I would never go out of my way to visit here as there isn't really anything exciting to see. Just trinkets, t-shirts, and gas-station nutrition with the main feature being gas for the car. There are little alien trinkets and t-shirts to say you were at this modest gas station in the White Mountains where this famous abduction took place. My wife got excited with an alien doll with velcro hands. We bought it, it is now her co-pilot secured to her seat. A reminder that this is a weird, curious, wonderful existence we live. Sometimes the greatest finds, are the things you were not looking for.

Based on the reviews, I made a special drive out there but learned that they have rebranded and…read morethey no longer sell pie. I like to try to support small businesses so I will say that the people in line seemed pretty intent on getting their coffee, but I was super bummed to not return back to our group with a (vegan) fruit pie. I bought some muffins (blueberry was vegan) and a cinnamon roll and they were good.

I Yelped this place (keep those reviews coming kids) and thought maybe I'd try to grab a savory chicken pot pie hand pie or something to tide me over. I didn't realize the pot pies were like dinner size lmao so I had to regroup. They had blueberry pie!! Now this is not remarkable in itself but all I wanted for my bday was to go to Acadia and have a lobster roll and blueberry pie on the big day and I had to change my plans for the SECOND year in a row. So in the words of Denzel I said to myself, "I'm leaving here with something." So I got a maple latte - lord. This is probably my fave coffee flavor - and a small blueberry pie for myself. There's a scene in the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice where Mariah Lucas is panicking over how to pack her trunk based on what busybody Lady Catherine DeBerg advised her. Here comes Lizzy Bennett, "Mariah those are your trunks. You pack them the way you want." OK well Amanda G this is your pie and if you want to eat a pie for lunch in your car then you do it. And did. 20/10. Did do again. The next day. With an apple cinnamon muffin and a maple latte.
