Driving through town and stopped here for lunch. (Wanted to go on the Herr's tour, but no tours on Friday. Ugh. ) Anyway, nice atmosphere in the back restaurant. Cozy and a bit dark. The server (Kyle) was terrific. He kept our water glasses full and provided suggestions/recommendations. The food we had was good. We started with a bowl of tomato crab bisque. The bisque is really thick, with a rich tomato taste and bits of crab in every mouthful. My partner and I split the bowl. It's really rich and very filling. My partner got the house salad with crab cake ($11 for the crab cake). What? They are from Maryland but they are having Crab cake in Pennsylvania? Are they mad? No, it's a really good crab cake for that price point. Lots of crab and the cake was prepared well. No regrets! I had the turkey Reuben with fries. Delicious. I like that the fries are hand cut. Good texture, not oily. A good amount of turkey in the sandwich. Really good sandwich overall. Looking at surrounding tables, other sandwiches and items looked good. My wife rarely throws down the gauntlet and announces that she wants to go out for fried chicken, so when she does and she has the place picked out, then we roll. This southern boy won't argue an invite for that. The place was a cozy little counter and a few side tables. She's still recovering from surgery, so we got an accessible table. Servers were friendly and quick. We started off splitting a cup of the soup of the day, "loaded potato". Whomever gave it that name was loaded. The potato pieces were the size of a piece of hash. Pinky Toenail size. And few and far between. She ordered the country fried chicken and proceeded to announce that the only thing good about it was the green beans. I tried the boneless chicken wings with the Nashville hot sauce on the side. I guess I never imagined it could get worse than what you get at Wing Stop. Served with limp soggy fries. Surely the ice cream at the creamery could rescue this meal, right? Nope. We stepped over to the ice cream counter area where four high school age kids were overmanning the tubs of ice cream. I asked for a cone, and it was so stuffed it was unmanageable and leaving droppings right on the counter. It had to be dumped upside down in a cup immediately. The ice cream was expensive I guess because of all the labor expense. Both of us wound up with upset stomachs from this mistake of an evening. I blamed that on the ice cream. Maybe it should have been a sign when I noticed the grammar and spelling mistakes on their menu. It's Bulleit Rye, not Bullet. Attention to detail is not what you're going to get here. On 9/24/25 I placed an order over the phone. I asked for a turkey dinner and lump crab cakes and asked to substitute the french fries with mashed potatoes. When I arrived, I was told that they ran out of turkey so they substituted with Southern fried chicken. I was then told that the kitchen would not allow me to have mashed potatoes with my crab cakes rather than french fries. I was very annoyed about not being allowed to have mashed potatoes while I watched other diners eat and get served mashed potatoes and I let the person at the cash register know and she did nothing but listen to me.. so I left and I gave my sister her fried chicken dinner and the chicken was burnt to a crisp.. Nice country restaurant located right down the street from Herr's Potato Chip Factory. It is rather dark inside but we were lucky to snag two seats at the counter. In my opinion, the best seats. I enjoyed watching the food come up in the window and the cook announcing each dish. I ordered the Southern Grilled Cheese which was grilled garlic bread, Mac and cheese and bbq pulled pork. I asked the waitress behind the counter if I could have it deconstructed. She didn't seem to keen on the idea. Lucky for me the chef was a roll with the punches guy and has no problem. This is a country-style kitchen slinging traditional American fare. I made a mistake and didn't order a classic traditional American dish. I ordered the crunchy shrimp wrap, which is fried shrimp with slaw on a tortilla. The slaw was a bit too crunchy and raw. It was also a bit more acidic than I'd prefer. Perhaps slightly more mayo and more time to sit and soften/pickle in it's brine would have improved the slaw. The shrimps were OK, but they definitely had the chlorine/pool flavor or farmed shrimp. The batter was tasty. The shrimp had a juicy and tender texture. The wrap was not well portioned with filling. The ends had multiple bites of doubled-up all-tortilla. I found the fries to be pretty good. They had a good crisp exterior. If I went back, I'd definitely try a more traditional dish like the country fried chicken and gravy. I wish I could give this place 10 stars because everyone in our party was thrilled and complementing me on what a great find. I honestly can't take credit for finding this really good dining establishment because all I did was check Yelp to see what was the closest restaurant to the Herr's factory Christmas light display. We were warmly greeted and taken to a nice big round table which was set apart enough for COVID-19 restrictions. The menu was more than ample and they also had a few specials on the board. They also highlighted some good desserts. Two of us had the fish and chips platter which was a huge piece of haddock, lightly breaded and lightly fried. It was totally awesome. Fresh and tasty. The other two in our party had the beef stroganoff which looked fantastic and when i was offered a taste I took it and smiled. Dinner would've been enough to put smiles on all of our faces but desserts confirmed that we will all be back soon. Only three of us ordered dessert but the two that got the ice cream in a cute cup were really surprised at how big it was. And these were men saying that the ice cream was big. I had a piece of Boston cream pie that when it arrived I heard a couple of gasps from the male side of the table. And then my BFF looked at me and said "OMG That's the biggest piece of pie I have ever seen" . I agreed. It had to be over 3 inches tall, and probably wider. The chocolate on top was wonderful. It was filled with that wonderful cream that Boston cream pies are filled with. Chocolate and cream in every bite - who could ask for anything more? this place has bad service, walked in some dude said want a seat at the bar and I said no because my wife was with me and we would had to sit apart, I said what about the tables that are open can we sit there, the dude says no they are for larger parties. there were no larger parties waiting inside or outside I know this because I sat outside for 30 minutes and no large parties came in. I have been spending money there for almost 20 years and never had a problem until today. So I went to another nearby restaurant and had lunch there no problems. I asked my waiter what he recommend and he said the brisket sandwich. I went with his suggestion and he was spot on! She then said you are welcome to sit down and order drinks but you will have to wait 20 minutes to order lunch..... I looked at the time and it was 11:58 AM so I replied it's noon, she then said we got a late start.
