I've been using these paints for 9 years and love the results. They are very vibrant and are one of my go to paints. I buy larger volumes and am amazed that they have not lost their luminosity after a year. Prices have increased, but what hasn't? When they left the Culver City area I was disheartened, because they were close to my home, now they're further. Shipping got to be too expensive, so I made the trek to there new location which offers yet another possiblity.....you can have canvases made by the company next door.Love it! read more

Placed an order for my daughter and over 2 weeks later they still have not even packed it up to send after charging me for it and also charging a huge amount for shipping,3x the regular cost for within California shipping. Could not get ahold of ANYONE in person to discuss the long delay with zero communication and finally received an email stating that if I pay even more for expedited shipping I may receive it sooner... this is over 2 weeks after ordering it!!!! I love the new location. Easier to get to, though the parking lot is shared. Still better than the now-closed Culver City shack. Service is laid back, no hard sell, unlike the big store all over town. Pricing is fair and I love the empty bottles they stock. The paint quality is very good. It is generally all the same consistency, so you'll need to add a heavy body medium, airbrush medium or others to get niche results. A good store, good people, good location. read more

Pretty much the only paint I use. It's almost an hour away from where I live and they only have m-f daytime hours but worth it, especially if you like the paint. A nice, smooth, fluid/soft body acrylic. Great bang for the buck and definitely a business I love supporting. Been going to them for around 10 years now and have no plans to change that. read more

Being that they are only open on weekdays during normal business hours, I would take a vacation day to come here to pick up their premium paints and the prices that they sell them at. The pigments are deep and rich a little goes a long way. I had a jar of bronze that had stayed creamy and fresh for almost 5 years where to tubes that I bought from art stores eventually dried up, even when I had the cap on. A fellow artist friend told me that I can order before hand and pick it up or have it delivered. I will forever be a customer. read more

Friendly professional customer service. Shipment went out within hours of order. Received it within 3-4 days. Like others have mentioned before, you have to request a call for shipping costs since it's not included online. I live on the east coast and it cost me an additional $15 for a 5lbs package, so you can imagine how expensive it'd be for heavier items; however, their paints are gorgeous and on-level (maybe even better...) than the more expensive Golden brand. Their iridescents are INSANE. In the end, the trade off is worth it. More paint for your bucks. read more

I paint professionally and will be giving my new paints to the local grade school. Compared to other acrylic paints it has very little body, if any. The paint is thin and does not layer well. I closed the jars and went back to my more expensive paints. Also, the clean up was difficult. It dries to concrete in the brushes and on my washable palette I had to use cleaner and scrub with a magic eraser. I am sure this paint is great for some...just not me. read more

Yesterday I drove out to Nova Color for the sale. I had driven a long way, over an hour. Upon arrival I was told the sale ended the day before. I asked if they would still honor it and was told no. I think good customer service would have entailed making an exception, but no. Nova Color has doubled their prices on paint, so a sale would make it reasonable especially for an artist. I've been a longtime customer of this store, but will not be going there anymore. There's other paint stores with better paint and less expensive with much better customer service. I hope it was worth it to them to lose a loyal customer. read more

Love Gonzales and his friendly way of guiding the artists, he is the best with color and teaching you how to mix color and find the right textures. I highly recommend him to my students. I discovered some new blues and they are my favorite to work with in my color palette. Also they have great prices and amazing products and the products are high quality. There check out needs to be revamped to include PayPal, because you don't know what the shipping charges are until you get your credit card bill or unless you call them. I love going here to look at all the colors in person - tons! They have an exceptional fluorescent and iridescent paint selection along with a lots of mediums you can mix with the paint. The prices are quite cheap compared to Liquitex and Golden on Dick Blick, Amazon or other sites. That being said it is a different product. While the pigment is Very strong, the body is much thinner and adding a gel won't achieve the same consistency as say the Liquitex "butter cream" feel. I use both Nova and other brands for differing effects. There is some difference in paint viscosity from color to color, but it is consistent within the same color. I find the same effect in other acrylics; probably due to the ingredients (e.g. cobalt, cadmium, phthalocyanine etc.) The shop is small and the owner will help you find colors. You can buy 4 oz. all the way up to 5 gallons! They mix it on site in back. The more you buy the cheaper the cost per unit (significant savings). They have hand painted color charts you can shop with and take home for future reference. The colors match the product - I've opened enough jars in store to confirm. It's great to see what an iridescent paint looks like dry. The area is somewhat industrial and gentrifying. The small parking area is just beyond the building on the left hand side - look for posted signs on the metal gate/wall. Tons of galleries down the road on La Cienega and Washington to check out after you buy your supplies. read more

Awesome paints! By far the best I've used! Definitely better than the well known brands. Cheaper too! My only gripe is I wish shipping was a tad cheaper but it's worth it for these paints. A small jar costs as much as a tube of paint at other stores. I don't think they have student discounts either. I will probably never need the black light or neon lines but the colors here are better than most acrylics which dull when dry. Recommended by my painting instructors. I LOVE Nova Color! The prices are great, the paints are high quality and the staff is very helpful. Gonzalo, who often works the counter, knows his stuff and will patiently answer all of your questions. No question is too stupid and I never feel rushed. I was especially impressed when I took a dried tube of paint over there and he helped me figure what colors I needed to mix in order to match what was in the tube. I pretty much only shop here for all of my acrylic paints and mediums because the prices can't be beat. I've been buying Nova Paint for about 20 years.I disagree with other posters that the paint viscosity or pigment load significantly differs from Liquitex and other paints available internationally. I can't speak about Nova vs. Utrecht viscosity, haven't used the latter brand in years but I have purchased other brands in the UK, in Moscow, and in Japan while living in these places. The Nova paint is normal professional-grade stuff. I have to laugh at the Sergio review that complains that Nova increases their prices; if they never did they'd obviously go out of business; their paint is a bargain compared to others. I live in a University of California building with about 150 of my 400-500 paintings on the walls, and big windows, and I find the Nova paints resist fading to light about the same as my oil paints. Over the years, seeing the impact of time, I've gradually abandoned pigments which aren't light fast, and Nova's great in that they provide good advice on which pigments in the light fastness category 1 are the most light-resistant, which is important for murals and paintings that are going to get hit with direct sunlight every day, year after year. I've never visited their location, even when living in Hermosa Beach in LA it was easier to call in orders and have them mailed to me rather than fight through the traffic . I order 1-2 times per year and nothing's ever been damaged in shipment. I can't say the same for a large San Francisco supplier who screwed up my orders. So: good quality, cheap price, good customer service. We'd be dumb to pay normal art store prices when Nova paint is available, especially if you work in large scale where you're going to go through pints of paint, it's a waste of money to buy another paint brand. read more

I am a fine art painter. Mostly abstract. Nova color is my primary paint. I also exclusively use their mediums and gesso. The binder consistency and pigment load is excellent... very consistent across colors. I've never found a clump or an uneven mix. Way way way way better than economy "studio" acrylic paint. Just as much pigment as say Golden or liquitex, and I actually prefer the more liquid consistency. The ultramarine makes me openly weep... gorgeous. The pyrrole is just as opaque as any real cadmium. I use the texture paste for crack filling in wood sculptures. Using their little squeezy tubes prevents wasting paint... Mix and use exact amount you need. I paint big... so price vs quality Nova is by far the best paint I've come across. And you're shopping local! Warms the soul. read more
