My mother and I've been loyal Michaels customers for years as full-time artists and hobbyists, unfortunately the customer experience at this store, specifically at the Vista Store in Torrance, has declined significantly. I hope my feedback warns other customers and helps management understand what's happening at the store level. A few days ago, I went in to quickly pick up an online order after receiving both email and text confirmation that it was ready. My name wasn't on any of the pickup bags, so I asked for assistance. A manager briefly looked around, said he would check by the registers, and then proceeded to count cash in the register instead of helping me. After I approached him again, he passed me off to another employee who also couldn't find the order. I eventually noticed a bag with my name on the floor behind the register. They scanned it, and I left. When I opened the package later that night, I realized not only was the bag dirty--with a footprint on it--but the product inside was the wrong brand. I had ordered a specific brand on sale, and they substituted an Artist Loft item without informing me. The receipt label didn't match the product at all. I returned to the store the next morning, where the female manager told me they had substituted their own brand because the original item wasn't in stock. That explanation made no sense--if a customer orders Prismacolor, you don't replace it with Artist Loft. When I questioned it, she impatiently said, "Well, I'm returning it for you," with no apology, empathy, or effort to acknowledge the mistake. Not only did I waste over 30 minutes during the initial pickup, but I also had to make a second trip to return their error. A simple, sincere "I'm sorry" would have gone a long way. While I was there, I asked about another pending order. They told me if the item was on the shelf, I can get it. Even though the item showed available at this store, we couldn't find any. I ended up canceling it. More waste of time! Later that afternoon (4:11 p.m., Dec. 3), I called the store because the website was now showing the item in stock. The person who answered the phone cut me off with, "No, I'm too busy," without any courtesy or suggestion to call back. The level of rudeness at this store has become consistent and noticeable, even my young child has commented on it. This pattern of dismissiveness, errors, and lack of customer care is extremely disappointing. I hope regional or district management takes these issues seriously and restores the professionalism and positive atmosphere Michaels was once known for. (I've never shopped at Hobby Lobby until recently, and the vibe there is completely the opposite. It's warm, friendly, and the price of same brand products WAY cheaper than Michaels!!!) A few additional concerns for fellow customers: Many art supplies are significantly cheaper at Hobby Lobby, Amazon, or Dick Blick online. I genuinely prefer supporting local stores, but not at the expense of higher prices and poor treatment. When returning online orders paid through PayPal, you can request a cash refund. Store employees stubbornly claim they can only issue store credit, but when I called to ask, customer service confirmed that is NOT true. I now have over $100 in store credits! And I'll tell you next why I wouldn't opt for Michaels store credits. At the Redondo Beach location, an employee scanned two store credit receipts--each worth over $80--and told me they had no balance. He even asked if I wanted to throw them away. I later confirmed this was his error, but when I brought it up during a future visit, the same staff member simply shrugged while leaning on the register with his leg up. He no longer works there, but the value of those credits was never recovered, and I never received so much as an apology. Another ongoing concern is price inconsistencies. As someone who shops at Michaels often, I know the prices and watch for coupons like most loyal customers. However, the prices on the shelves frequently do not match the prices at the self-serve kiosks. I've asked for assistance on this four or five separate occasions, and it's surprising that the issue remains unresolved. Even worse, staff often appear visibly irritated when the discrepancy is pointed out. Right before a recent 40% promotion, prices on many items were increased in the kiosks but not updated on the shelf displays. I picked up a few items, excited to finally use the long-awaited 40% discount. At the register, everything rang up at the higher price. When I asked about it, I was told that "the overnight crew forgot to change the tags," even though every version of the item was still marked at the regular price on the shelves. In the end, it would have been cheaper to buy the items at their regular price with the standard 25% coupon than during this so-called 40% sale. I wondered why I still shop there. You order online for pickup and you get a message it is ready. You go in an there is no organization. Check out the photos. You ring the bell people walk by you and don't offer to help. Then you get someone who doesn't listen to how you spell your name and repeat back letters you didn't say. I complained and she gave me a snotty look and said she was I was waiting for the computer to catch up like I would magically know. On January 26 at 5:15pm. We Had a horrible experience with a so-called "store manager, Noris." As my sister was trying to shop her scooter died. One of the managers was in her view and my sister asked, "do you have an outlet so I can plug my scooter into. I will only plug for a little bit so I can get some charge." The kind manager said, "yes,""and directed her to the outlet...while my sis was charging Noris came to her and said, "you cant be plugged here." My sis told her, "I plug here all the time ever since you guys have been open." She said, "im so sorry ma'am but you cant plug here." My sis said, " well the manager said I can." NORIS says, "well im the manager and you cant it will blow up." My sis said, "what!! What am I supposed to do if my scooter won't go and get me out of here." She says, " well that's not my fault, you should've charged it before you came in here." She was very insensitive, non professional, arrogant, very nasty and my sister began to cry." There was no compassion. Mia asked for the phone number to the owner and Noris said, "I don't have it, the security guard has it, get it from them." So once the security cam through the door we asked him for the number and he said, "I dont have that number we are different from the store. ZERO customer service. Posted signs for sale items are misleading. The woman at the front was unaccommodating and unwilling to look at how the signs were displayed and said the item I was purchasing wasn't on sale. I purchased multiples of the same item yesterday in Torrance for less and asked if they would price match and provided proof. The lady at the front called over her supervisor, who said they can only price match competitors. I proceeded with the purchase anyway. Too many self check out stations instead of two humans at the registers. I needed to exchange an item out of an online order I just picked up, a very accommodating young man/tall helped me when he saw my confusion, my item was too large for the bins, he retrieved my purchase and helped me find the display as I needed to exchange two small items for a larger size after seeing the item in person. I get in line, one customer was being assisted by an associate, three customers went around me for the self checkout, I waited to be helped. One of the self checkout customers asked the now free associate to help them, I was actually next. I asked an associate who was dutifully working with merchandise if they could help me, MARTHA, she, without any hesitation came to my aid, I explained to her what happened she assured me that everything was fine "no worries you're good". I stopped in here to get a poster mounted and was shocked at the size of the store. I typically shop at the Michaels at the Long Beach Towne Center. After my experience at the Hawthorne location with Alfredo in the framing department, I won't go to another Michaels!!! He was so informative and pleasant. I had a little time to look around the store while he was locating my poster and was surprised by the selection and the fact they still have Christmas decorations out!! The store seems different. Not sure when was the last time I step foot in this micheal's but definitely different in a good way! The isles have been moved, creating more spaces to walk, the isles are well kept and organized. Everything has a home which makes things easier to find. But I hadn't been there for a while so it took me a while to familiarize myself with the store. There was no greeter at the door and there has always been one. Walking up and down the isles, I noticed there were no staff members working the floor. I walked passed several isles for 20 minutes and saw not one member? I finally had to walk to the front of the store, I found one staff member helping out in the cashier area. She was nice and friendly. She was able to radio someone to come out and assist me. Rude staff, the older African American lady with glasses working at the front entrance unboxing things shouldn't be in customer service. They say "welcome to Michael's" but don't let that fool you. It's best not to ask where anything is, just look for it yourself, and try to avoid her. You'll thank me later. It never used to be this way. And for your added convenience the new checkout is all automated now so you check your own stuff out. So forget about friendliness, that has been completely eliminated in this store. read more

Super Nice customer service! This place is packed with people this time of year. Nevertheless, every employee is very helpful, nice, welcoming and they go way out of their way to help out with a positive attitude and a smile. All cash registers had a cashier! There are employees all thru the store stocking, arranging, organizing, and answering questions. I had a wonderful experience. I must confess I was not looking forward to coming. BUT, I truly do say that I am willing to go now any day regardless of time of year (busy or not) because this store makes it easier for customers and they do a great job getting you in and out with what you need without making you wait in the name of "busy". read more

The staff here is very unprofessional. Went to the bathroom with an employee hogging the urinal on his phone. Came out to find cardstock and asked an employee for help finding 110lb cardstock. He was also on his phone, and looked up and said he didn't know anything about cardstock (turns out what I was looking for was just down the isle). SELF-CHECKOUT!? Holiday Nightmare ahead! There were only 2 cashiers, who seemed harried despite very few customers in line. Phone calls, self-checkout customers needing help & all else going on does not fare well for the upcoming Holidaze. How will disabled or elderly customers do with this new system? Luckily I had only a few items since the counterspace is really small! Bags are there but seriously stuck together. PLEASE have a wet sponge or something handy to wet your fingers to open the dam things! I carried my stuff out & dropped most of it while trying to get into the car. I came here again because I needed to get a white Poster board for my daughter's Government project at School. The store was pretty busy when I arrived and thanks to the aisles that have signs I didn't have to look too long for what I needed. There was a good Supply of not only white but other colored Poster boards available there. After I grabbed what I needed I stopped in another aisle to look at votive candles for my daughter's upcoming Graduation party. There were many different selections and the prices were affordable. I also had a Coupon from Michael's for 40% off any regular priced item which was nice. Overall this location is always clean, well stocked and the Customer Service is great too. read more

Recently was hit with a creative buzz and decided to go to Micheals for some crafts supplies. Wasn't expecting much then to just walk in and out, but the store staff I interacted with were so nice and truly attentive to my specific project needs (I'm painting). The store was clean and everyone who I asked to help me did so without making me feel like I was bothering them. The line was long when I got to check out, but it loved so quickly I didn't even notice. At check out the attendant, Lulu was so sweet and gave myself and mini such great care than mini wanted to come back the next day. I share a picture of our painting project once it's finished too. Just left a Michaels empty handed . Not a big deal, I will just order the stuff I did plan on buying at this Michaels on amazon .... I'm more upset about how one of the staff members handled a situation. My Boyfriend and I were in an aisle by ourself , we had our 6 month old puppy with us. A kid was taunting him so he would bark, we apologized and told the people on the other side he's training . Kid kept taunting him, my puppy barked again. My boyfriend was about to bring him back to the car. As he was handing over all the stuff we We're planning on purchasing , Wendy pokes her head in and aggressively demand " you need to leave Now , I will walk you out" We put our things down and started walking . I get it our puppy was barking . Maybe next time ask one of us leave with the dog and 1 one us could have checked out ? Or maybe ask if the dog leave ... This is a good Michael's store, and in the surrounding area there's a Home Depot, Food 4 Less, Toys R Us, Verizon, Sports Authority, Marshall's (or maybe it's Ross), Office Max, and other stuff. It's a fairly large store with lots of merchandise options. Parking is easy, it's a big big lot. The area is "so-so" not too sketchy, but also not Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive either. It's reasonably safe and comfortable and in the middle class socio economic stratosphere. If you're looking for supplies for crafts, projects and decor, this is a great place to go to. They "coupon" a lot, and I think weekly the Sunday newspaper has a free standing insert advertisement for "50% one item" off, which even if you don't subscribe to a Sunday newspaper, makes it worth buying a paper for to get the coupon. They also have lots of in-store sales too, including many "2 for 1" on picture frames. If you knit and crochet, they have a lot of stuff here too. read more

My previous review was accused of being "stupid" so on today's visit I'll be certain to pay extra attention to my experience. My previous review failed to mention an over crowded parking lot. To be fair this shopping center contains a popular grocery store, some fast food shops, a discount retail/party/decor store so parking tends to be over crowded all the time as was the case again today. I don't mind a parking hike, I rather enjoy the extra steps. Upon being greeted by 2 screaming children who, were under 4 years of age and whose little hands were holding a bag of potato chips and what appeared to be a popsicle or a sucker of some sort (great nutrition, am I right?) I beelined to the Swarovski display anticipating a good experience. After all, it's a lazy Sunday and not Christmas. Sadly and not surprisingly the Swarovski crystals I was seeking will be but a fantasy; 2 of the 3 pkgs were missing half of the charms and the other was completely empty. Can't say I've ever had a successful Swarovski experience here but seeing as how my accuser insists my review was biased based on the Christmas rush, I gave this location another shot on a day unrelated to Christmas. I guess if you can get past the parking mayhem, the crowded aisles, the missing/stolen inventory and the obvious attempts to ignore customers and avoid having to help, then this is your store. read more

Once I finally did get an answer it was a quick response to get my order to me. I will continue to shop but will not enter their place. I went to this Michaels store last night to exchange about $150 worth of stuff that was bought from that exact store. I didnt have the receipt because i had won the stuff in a raffle at work. I couldnt use the stuff i won so i figured i could exchange it for stuff that i would actually use. The Manager said i could exchange the items no problem. But what she did was override all of the prices to only be $9.99 each!! She only gave me store credit for $80.00 instead of what i was suppose to get which was $160.00!!! I didnt notice what she had done until i walked away to go shopping and looked at the return receipt!! She marked every item down to $9.99 and then paid me that!! I went back and said something to her about it and she got a major attitude and said "oh well! The transaction is already done and if u want the stuff back instead, then u have to repurchase it all at regular price!!! lol i started to get upset about it and the next thing i know ... she was on the phone with the police. The police came and told me that i had to leave and it was a civil matter!! LOL Can you believe that!!?? The very unprofessional Manager that has HORRIBLE customer service skills is named Jessica and she works the closing shift!! So she pretty much STOLE my things from me!!! This is ridiculous!!!! I can not believe that she thinks what she did is ok and thinks she is going to get away with stealing my things!!! Corporate needs to do something about this!! And fix the problem!!! Then the instructor arrived and we both learned that the store manager had "re-purposed" the room and said they could not accommodate the class. I The store manager refused to even refund my $20 fee, claiming it was a corporate matter! She stuck to this story even when I reminded her that she had already admitted that she, not "corporate," cancelled the class! No attempt was made to contact the class participants or even the instructor. This is inexcusable. What a waste of hours of my time, money and good will during this busy Christmas season! read more

This location is just like any other, but their customer service is definitely nothing to write home about. Went in for some supplies for my costume and had a simple question, but could not find an employee around. Finally, when I did, they ignored my hello and proceeded on their stroll through the store. Maybe they were on break/lunch, but they could've taken their vest off or at the very least smiled when I greeted them.
