I never leave reviews for businesses unless I feel VERY strongly about my experience with them - and I have to say that Nova Express Movers met that threshold! I did a local move in the D.C. area from a one-bedroom apartment to a condo building with a strict move-in timeframe, so I had some special requirements to deal with during both the planning and execution phases. I have to give huge kudos to Anne, who was extremely responsive to my initial inquiry (she got back to me within 10 minutes) and then worked through the weekend to coordinate many of the finer details with me. She just wanted me to feel good about getting the exact services I needed, right down to the number of crewmen and what each additional box would cost if they needed to bring in anything extra. Nova Express was NOT the cheapest quote I received, BUT this extra level of communication, especially via email and during irregular hours, really sealed it for me. Jaime, Rafael, and Osmar did a PHENOMENAL job from start to finish on the big day, which was as hot, humid, and miserable as any in metro D.C. this time of year. I was most worried about my 750-lb, very valuable upright piano that I had only ever used dedicated piano movers for in the past...but they nailed it, making great use of my own leftover shrink wrap and tape on top of their blankets to keep my precious asset safe. The guys were also super creative with my other leftover moving supplies - in a swift move, Jaime whipped out the box cutter to fashion a "custom" TV container from the cardboard odds and ends lying around. As others mentioned, the guys disassembled and reassembled my furniture quickly and without complaint; actually, they seemed to really enjoy figuring it out! You have to find the fun in what is otherwise a brutal and grueling job. A reviewer before me wrote that their Nova Express crew moved very slowly and that this made them "scam artists"...my experience was that the crew did their due diligence to make sure everything was safely cushioned before leaving my apartment, and then took a little extra time to arrange the truck in the same way. I would rather pay for an extra hour to get a thorough, well-done job than replace hundreds of dollars worth of items on the other end. But if you do find yourself in a time crunch, these guys can move FAST; I had a short move-in window at my destination, and the crew really hustled to get everything off the truck and settled - again, without any complaints. It turned out that two small under-bed IKEA storage drawers had broken in the truck, and Jaime was profusely apologetic about the situation, even offering to work with me on the final bill. I told him not to sweat it at all, since cheap furniture is bound to break one way or another anyway. He was VERY hesitant to accept that answer, which just showed me what a class act he is. That said - if you are moving something that is extremely valuable to you, ALWAYS do it yourself to avoid the possibility of an awkward conversation with your movers later, and accept that no matter what you do, SOMETHING will probably not survive your move. At the end of the day, these guys got a well-deserved tip and the company gained a very satisfied customer. If the owner of Nova Express is reading this: give these people a raise! In this time of COVID, people are showing their true colors, and these pros showed me how committed they are to serving the customer, regardless of what their needs may be. I truly appreciated it, and I'll be spreading the word to anyone I know in the area who needs a great move at a fair price. read more

Moving is the absolute worst...when you don't have the assistance or resources needed to get it done quickly and efficiently. NOVA Express Movers was the professional help that we needed and totally hassle-free. The setup was fairly easy since they provide prompt responses. They were scheduled for the day that we wanted but were able to accommodate us the next day--which was great since we contacted them less than a month in advance. They were upfront about charges and answered all of my questions about fees etc. They do provide the option of providing movers only or movers with the truck. The latter comes with dollies and moving blankets. Be aware that they charge for other moving supplies like tape if they need to tape any boxes or any blanket-wrapped items but they're happy to use your tape if you provide it. Vlad and his team showed up on time and required minimum instruction. They never complained about the amount of items to be moved or about the path they needed to walk from the freight elevator. The fact that they were courteous, polite, and positive was very important for me since moves are stressful. Additionally, it was great to receive a 5% discount for paying in cash because every little bit helps! I am docking a star because a small case was broken because other heavier items were piled on top of it. We did not notice until a day later when we were unpacking. It was not an expensive piece so we were not too worked up about it. I would probably use them again since they were easy to schedule/communicate with and the price was reasonable. read more

I used NOVA express movers for collecting furniture from Alexandria, DC and then bringing it to Fairfax. (Please note, this review is based on moving furniture only I did not have any boxes to move.) The only compliant I have is that the individuals who I booked and confirmed the appointment seemed a little confused when I spoke to them a few days before. I had originally requested only 2 movers and they had me booked for 4 movers. I also had said the earlier the better but when I called they said the earliest they would arrive would be 9:00 am. However, on our actually moving day they arrived at 8:40 am (and showed me their sheet said 7 am). However, with all that being said the actually move went incredibly smooth. The 2 gentlemen who moved our furniture were professional, polite and friendly all at the same time. Both places we were taking furniture out of had slightly awkward loading (parking) areas. No complaints from the 2 gentlemen and they navigated it extremely well. They also came in under budget from what I had originally been quoted. (I did not see them wasting anytime in fact I was more than happy to offer them water (and a break) because they were moving at "lighting speed".) Our whole move took under 5 hours. In a nutshell, I would call use this company again and after comparing several different quotes found them extremely fair with their pricing. This company is one of the most professional, customer focused moving companies I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I could be considered a professional mover. Throughout my career, I typically make a major move ever three or four years, complete with a fully funded move to include two cross country moves and two international moves. Nova Express blows them all away. HONEST, UPFRONT, and no attempt to nickel and dime you. In fact, I rather liked the fact that they charge a one time show up fee (not what they called it) that covers fuel, stairs, elevators and all the "stuff" that many other companies charge for. You know what it is going to cost you up front!! Our experience with Nova Express was a two-phased move. We moved my 3 bedroom townhouse out of storage and into our new home. This first move was the perfect opportunity to test drive the company prior to our second and larger move. The first crew, Robert, Guy, Raj and Jaime were awesome. They were on time (actually early) and got straight to it. They were pleasant, professional and actually seemed to enjoy their job. They were conscientious of our belongings, navigated expertly through our new home, put furniture back together, cleaned up and went on about their way. They actually came in below budget. We could not have been more pleased. Our second move was essentially a repeat of our first experience, although we had a lot more stuff the second time. Our crew for the second move consisted of Robert, Chris, Guy, Chris, Tobias and Bak. We loved this crew. They were on time (again slightly early). They were polite, professional, pleasant and just plain fun. They cracked me up the entire day. They were as energetic and pleasant at the end of a heavy eight hour day as they were when they started. UPDATE: T reached out to help resolve my issues with my move. I received a phone call this morning where he made a sincere effort to find a reasonable solution. Ultimately, I was refunded two hours. As promised, T provided me with a receipt of the refund within minutes of our call ending. I appreciated his prompt response to ensure that I didn't leave with a bad experience with NOVA Express; something that others wouldn't care to address. ........ My worst move ever! Slow sloppy work and broken items. I will never use NOVA Express Movers again! I've moved quite a bit over the years especially various apartments here in the DC area. The last couple of moves I've just hired movers instead of friends so that things could be more efficient, quicker and so I wouldn't have to worry about having something broken. I used NE during my last move and has a great experience. I never imagined this one could go so badly. I moved from a one bedroom to a two bedroom condo -- both with elevators. I shed a lot of furniture, I only moved a bed, a chair and a small desk. Everything else was boxes (26 to be exact) so I expected an easy move. NOPE! My one bedroom move 3 miles away took 8 hours!!! 8 f$&@? hours for one bedroom costing me over $1000. The cwere nice and friendly but were incredibly slow and inefficient. Despite working so slow multiple items were broken or scratched --- they just didn't show care for my things. No only was this the most expensive move but I lost more items due to carelessness than I ever have with other movers, friends or heck even the folks at the Uhaul rental. I don't usually write reviews but this company is worth the effort. I called several moving companies and this one had a reasonable price without seeming shady. Others were astronomical for moving my two bedroom apartment to a basement. Once I confirmed that I would go with this company Anne emailed an inventory to fill out and no deposit was required once I filled out the paperwork. She contacted me through email and then the day before the move to confirm. I was also contacted about additional services which I declined. I was told to expect the movers between 9-1030.On move day they called to alert me to the arrival. Rob and Ronaldo arrived at 9:40.. They were both great kind and considerate of my things. They wrapped my things in blankets and tape. It was a very hot day but they handle the move like champions. You were very fast and efficient and even let me help with directing where things should go. I would give this moving company 0 stars if I could. We called them and they quoted us $370 for two hours to move one bedroom worth of stuff to our new apartment from a storage unit not even 30 minutes away. The movers showed up with 2 people and worked EXTREMELY SLOW! A job that should've taken no more than 3 hours took over 5 hours long because the movers were taking their sweet time. They were milking the clock and taking as much as time as they could in order to make more money. In the end we ended up paying over $700. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT use their services. They are extremely unprofessional and SLOW! SPEND YOUR MONEY ANYWHERE BUT HERE! You're better off hiring some worker from the street than these people. ABSOLUTE RIP OFF!!!! read more

Nova Express was fantastic for our local move within Arlington. Although we made a somewhat last minute query, they were able to fit us into the schedule with less than two weeks notice. The office manager Dana was very responsive to my request within an hour of submission online, and the moving manager Kay was also very responsive to my check-ins on scheduling the day-of. While the team arrived slightly later than originally expected as we were their second move of the day, Jevoy and Ola were cheerful, hard-working, and exceptionally helpful as we simultaneously finished packing some remaining boxes and disassembling the bed while they worked on filling the truck with the other furniture and many boxes. We had more boxes than originally estimated and also some hiccoughs with freight elevator access, but they were troopers despite working for seven hours getting everything moved. All our furniture was well protected and they placed it all where desired. Based on our experience, we would be more than happy to hire Nova Express Movers the next time we move. read more

These guys are the real deal, if I can give more stars I would! The price was great for the professionalism you receive compared to the last movers we had used, who were a complete nightmare. Rashad, James, Antonio gave me a call as soon as they had finished the 1st job stating that they were done early and could come out earlier. Unfortunately we had to stick to our time of 3 p.m. as that is when we could bring the truck in and reserve the 1st location elevator. They arrived promptly on time and began loading the truck immediately. They were able to disassemble furniture super fast and were incredibly fast at loading the truck as we did have a lot of items... We got to the next location and the loading area was not big enough for the truck to fit all the way to the platform, that did not stop them. They were able to quickly think of a solution and pulled out their truck's ladder to reach the loading area which minimized so much more time and effort. They worked hard and were able to finish everything way faster than I had expected (I was thinking it would take 6-7 hours with the amount of items we had). They were exhausted, but super professional the whole time and I will be using Nova express movers again in the future as long as they keep hiring great talent like this. read more

We did a full service move (pack one day, move the next). The foreman on packing day requested a larger truck but a smaller truck was sent the day of the move. The movers had to make two trips as a result of the smaller truck. We were charged the $200 hourly rate for the extra time it took them to drive to the old house and back. Not to mention the extra time it probably took them to pack everything into the smaller truck. We had no issues with the crew, they seemed to work really hard. The crew was tipped generously each day and we provided them lunch. It's not the cost of the move that's the issue it's the principle that we were not provided an adequate truck but were still charged the extra time. read more

This was our third move this year, and we decided to finally book movers for the first time. While Nova Express Movers wasn't the lowest quote we received, they were the most professional and easy-going people we came across! I wasn't sure what to expect the day of the move, but when Kay, Danis, and Joe got here and started to pile boxes into the carts with dexterity and ease, I thought, "This is why their slogan is 'you move once in a while, we move every day!'" Wow, these guys started at 10AM and finished our move at midnight - and they were working their butts off the entire time! Additionally, each and every one of the movers was super polite, respectful, and so professional. Not a single one of them had a bad attitude even though they were dead tired by the time the move finished - imagine working so hard moving for 14 hours and still having a smile on your face when dealing with customers. This is my third or fourth move using a moving company in this area, also the worst. Here are some reasons why: Much slower than other movers I've used, stated they were moving slowly because they wanted to make sure they did not damage anything. Damaged a table I had just refinished and lost the leg on a another piece of furniture. Dropped and damaged other items. One of the workers kept telling the other to slow down and asking him "what's the rush?" The company called after the move to follow up and ask how the move went. When I said there were some issues and asked about the missing furniture leg, they quickly lost interest in how the move went and stated they were going to look for it. That was two weeks and and I have not heard from them since. read more

I would not recommend this place and say you will have better luck going elsewhere where you won't be swindled into a low quote and then blindsided with moving expenses double what you expected. The two men who helped move were plenty nice but I had described the situation on the phone and been quoted for 4-5 hrs worth of moving and when the men arrived, they were just so incredibly slow. It ended up taking ~9 hours even though there were no surprises ( I had told them when we were scheduling it that it was 2 pick up locations and one drop-off and everything was already packed up). We initially thought "okay, they are taking a really long time but maybe it is because they are extra careful with our stuff" but when we were fully moved in, my lamp was broken and my kitchen table had a bunch of gashes on it. All in all, the experience was a really slow/long one and ended up costing literally double what we were quoted and my furniture got damaged in the process. When I raised my frustration that the move went from being $700 to $1300, I kept getting the line "Well, you were given a quote" which while I understand that, this is their job to move people and they should have a better way of calculating how long things should take considering my roommate and I gave them all the details prior and had everything all packed waiting to go. BLUF: These guys are great! Great service! Great rates! Great everything!! Moved a one bedroom apartment in Fairfax to Alexandria on 2/5/2014. From start to finish, this company was a pleasure to work with. The scheduler, Dana, helped me to work around weather and the new apartment's freight elevator schedule. The two guys assigned my move arrived a few minutes early and came prepared to bust A$$!! They were both all smiles and very helpful. The were....Los dos Joses!! Jose numero uno y Jose numero dos! I'll let them tell you which one is which ;) The move took about five hours from start to finish and they took the time to wrap my furniture well and ensure that everything was snug in the truck. I was impressed. I think they were surprised by just how much stuff I have and frankly, so was I.... it isn't like I hadn't been preparing for this move for WEEKS! I sorted through stuff and donated stuff, shredded stuff, trashed stuff, and even paid people to take my stuff, but there is always just more stuff! I don't get it! It is like my sweaters entwine together in the middle of the night to create more sweaters.... my shoes tip-toe in a tango across the closet floor to spawn more shoes.... I'm embarassed for them, but secretly LOVE them all!! The big thing for me was pricing and honesty. I had another moving company generate a quote for me a few years back, load up half my stuff and then try to charge me double. They even threatened to unload my stuff in the parking lot right then and there if I didn't pay. That was all after they arrived 8 hours late! This will NEVER happen to you with this company. Their pricing is more than fair and they have zero hidden fees. They have an hourly rate that you can trust and they are honest about the time they spend working. If you're a WOMAN, please avoid this company. It took them double the estimated time to complete an 1 bedroom apartment within a 2 mile move. I literally have 4 pieces of furniture and a couple of boxes and it took them over 4 hours to complete the job. One guy did all the work while the other one took his sweet time. He was more interested in searching for things in his backpack - I am surprised he didn't pack and bring his own lunch while on the clock. I could have done the job faster myself. "I had a great experience with my movers!" -Nobody Ever, Until Today NOVA Express is the exception that makes the rule about movers being shady and aggravating. They showed up early, introduced themselves in a legitimately friendly way, then got right to work. They worked quickly and efficiently, but our stuff was very well wrapped and taped in moving blankets to protect it all, and the truck was loaded faster than we'd expected. Amazingly, they not only didn't damage any walls, I couldn't even find any scuff marks despite some large shelves and a big desk having to make their way around some tight corners and through some confined stairs. When it came time to unload the truck, they were again very efficient, and it was done even faster. Best of all, their quote came in at half the price of every other quote, and then they came in under the original quote because they loaded/unloaded faster then expected, and because after they realized that they would only need three guys to unload the truck in the same amount of time, the owner came by and grabbed one of the four original guys, leaving the awesome Ron, Jerome, and Rolande (sp?) to do the unloading. By doing that they saved us a bunch of labor costs by not sticking us with an unnecessary extra man, and guaranteed that we'll use them again. I never thought I'd give five stars to a moving company, but I have a hard time imagining how I could have had a better experience. read more

Hot damn these guys are like magicians! My move from an MD suburb to a VA suburb was scheduled in the afternoon. They arrived 10 minutes before time. I unfortunately was late by almost an hour (turns out driving to downtown for what I thought would be a quick trip before the move was a bad idea). They didn't charge a single extra penny for the long wait! When they got started it was like David Copperfield! Poof....the whole house was packed in an hour. The quote process was fast and clear, and working with Dana to setup the move was a breeze; emails were always answered quickly and with great info.
