This was the most communicative moving service I've had-Dani and I discussed in depth the amount of belongings that needed to be moved and what factors would bump up the price. We discussed my budget and he adjusted the move's focus so that the final bill was right where I needed it to be. I have never had another mover be so flexible and conscientious about cost. They even went above and beyond in disposing of an old piece of furniture that we ran out of room to store. I have also had past moves with them that were very short notice and small. I recently got married and was moving from my condo into my husband's house (our home). Less than a week before the scheduled move, my husband found out that he had to work on the day I was moving! As this was unavoidable, I got on the hunt for a reputable, highly recommended moving company. And I was super duper happy to find A Few Good College Men. Their communication was great, the charges were clearly laid out, they arrived on time, and most importantly took the utmost care with my belongs and furniture. Clearly they have been in the business for a while, because the truck was loaded so intricately and with a lot of care. We had two stops - the first to drop off stuff to the house and the next to the storage unit. With both stops - I was really impressed with the professionalism. All in all, my husband and I both agree that they were excellent value for money; and I really felt peace of mind throughout the moving process! There are not enough good words in the English or any other language to express how much love working with AFGCM. I've used them for three moves and two junk hauls and literally every single interaction is better than the last! For my most recent move, they sent an additional mover for no extra cost, and they were the kindest, most efficient movers I've ever worked with. Again! I had quite a lot of heavy stuff and three floors to navigate - and they were so fast and so so kind and fun and funny. Not a single item was damaged or broken, and I have a lot of stuff. These nice gentlemen helped me move a year ago and I've been meaning to leave a review. They wrap up your valuables and bed and ensure that nothing gets damaged. Although I had paid for parking for the van, I had some issues with people parking in the spot, but the movers were able to improvise and get me moved out within an hour and 30 mins. EDIT 4/7: I just want to say that the company has been communicating with me to get my damaged items fixed, and they have been very courteous and apologetic so far. I'll update my review on the progress and quality of these repairs. EDIT 4/13: The company has reimbursed me for the damaged mattress and missing bag, so that's a good start. EDIT 4/24: The people came to look at the chair, and there is more damage then previously thought. The circular wooden base is also damaged. Just like with the mattress, the movers placed the damaged side towards the wall, apparently so it wouldn't be noticed. This is likely going to make it impossible to repair completely. EDIT 5/3: I just got the chair back, and it appears to be a top-notch repair job. I'll give a shout out to harryjohnsonfurniture.com who did the repair. The arms feel sturdy and the damage to the wood on the base is virtually invisible. The only thing left at this point (that I'm worried about) is the mounting brackets for the desk. These are proving to be difficult to find. EDIT 5/4: The company just reimbursed me for the desk, so at least they made good on the damaged items. I'll add another star to the review (two stars). I'm tempted to make it three stars since the owner and his representatives were always polite and helpful getting my stuff fixed or replaced, but at the end of the day this shouldn't have happened in the first place (at least not to this extent). Accidents always will happen when stuff is being moved, so this is nothing new or unique to this company. But if it does happen, the guys doing the moving really need to face the music and let the client know, instead of not saying anything and letting the client discover it later. And losing track of items during the move and leaving them behind is never acceptable; they need to come up with a system to prevent that from happening. --- The movers were friendly enough while they were working (at least two out of three were), but they showed a complete disregard for my possessions, and damaged SIX different items. Two items (my mattress and an expensive Stressless Consul chair) were damaged beyond economic repair. The chair is the most infuriating, because there is NO WAY they didn't immediately know that they damaged it, but they chose to hide it. Leading up to the move, I was told by the owner that despite the company's name, these were "professional movers" with "up to fifteen years experience," but the results speak for themselves. See the pictures. Not only that, but after they had unloaded everything I discovered at least two containers were missing. The next day, I backtracked to where I moved from and discovered that they had simply left them on the ground where they were loading the truck. One container was found (although it had been rained on all night), and the other is still missing. The found item was in plain view right where they were loading, so I guess they just decided to leave it there? I could have just gone to Home Depot and hired some guys off the street for far less money, and they would have been far more conscientious than this. I wish I *had* done that. read more

I've used this service a few times for moves around the DMV area, most recently for a move from Northern VA back to MD, and every time they do exactly what I need: move all my crap from one location to another. Of course, they don't pack it for you (or maybe they do, but I haven't needed that service) but they can carry items big and small and they know how to disassemble and re-assemble bigger items without damage. Their staff is very responsive over the phone. And they do all this for a much lower cost than most other moving companies in the area. Even recommended them to a colleague planning to move into DC itself. Whether you need to move 1 item or 1000 items around the DMV area, highly recommend you give AFGCM a shot. read more

I love this company! The most hard working, smart, honest, and overall nice guys ever. I needed some help moving furniture around my house. I needed a sofa moved upstairs and things moved moved around in the garage. They are always early or on time and I appreciate that. They tried to get my sofa moved upstairs, but it just would not go. So, they offered to donate it to Goodwill for me. How wonderful is that? I followed them over in my car and they dropped off the sofa. They took away some old lawn furniture for me. They do not stop until you tell them that you are done. I have used them three times and they have the same super star qualities each time. They were polite, professional, and very charismatic/funny!! In advance: Dany was super helpful coordinating times and called the morning-of to check on our readiness and materials/equipment, offer advice, and offer an additional mover for a very slight additional fee - I took the offer but he wasn't pushy at all about it. The Move: movers were timely, friendly, knowledgeable, efficient -- everything you'd want. They helped me deal with another moving truck that overstayed their reservation, helped properly dock our (separately rented) Uhaul, and generally ran a very professional operation between packing, hauling, and loading. The Fee: didn't seem wildly high or low based on research, but I appreciated that there weren't any extra fees or pushy upselling -- we paid exactly what was agreed on in advance, using our preferred method of payment. read more

Dany was so professional, easy going and did a great job with providing immediate scheduling for my move this week. I called him on Monday because my Tuesday plans to move, fell apart. Although I had booked online with another company, (that I used twice before) they bailed out with short notice. Dany was willing to schedule my move for the same day, the next day or any day that I needed. We scheduled it for Wednesday. Three guys showed up (Antoine, Keston and Anthony) on time. They were pleasant, professional and went right to work. I was moving out of a 1 BR to a studio apt and had sold my bedroom furniture. However, I still had some other furniture, some very big and a million boxes. They even went with me to the other side of my apartment building to my storage unit to get the remaining items that I had not moved out. I was extra grateful for that. My first huge moving day was awesome because of the AFGCM crew! Aaron, Johnny, and Reggi were fantastic at packing my delicate items, packing efficiently, and fitting everything into the U-Haul for a local move. They knew exactly how much to pack/move efficiently at a time going up the one elevator in my new building. Dany, the owner, also showed up just to check on things and made sure things went smoothly throughout the day which I deeply appreciated. He also took the time to drive by the new building before the move just to scope out the parking situation (I got a moving permit which I'd highly recommend to others moving in the DC metro area). I also didn't know how many packing materials I'd need but they brought the right amount which helped a lot. As shown in the picture, they carefully wrapped my larger items so well, so I had nothing to worry about. Their dedication also goes beyond moving/packing: during the move, Aaron helped a man who fell off a wheelchair across the street back up; Reggi and Johnny gave me great life wisdom during the elevator rides; Dany even handwrote a thank-you note after the move was completed.
