I cannot stress how awful, antiquated, and incompetent this company is. Their mistake has cost me 4000 dollars in insurance overpayments, and their bookkeeping is so poor that they can't even give me an accounting of what they paid via my escrow. They paid on a cancelled policy for years, added on another policy and didn't tell me for YEARS. Their customer service is terrible -- unhelpful, poor communication, and often rude. we were transferred to a new payment servicer called Servbank with 2 different Communication (Email) saying we are with Servbank and post mail saying we are still with Nova Home loan. I remember years maybe 5 but I will never forget what Chris Lawler did to my mother!! She went to Nova to finance the house she was interested in buying! Excellent credit and owned before and sold and retired!! He purposely made her pay fees then sold the house right out!! Chris and Nova employees did this!! She found a different place but not as happy and good as the one she used Nova finance for that stold her dream house right under her!! She paid fees to before as Chris led her to believe the house she found was hers. But Nova and Chris Lawler sold the house to family or friend or for more monies!! I have used them before, with very good results and decided to try them again. When they presented me with several possibly lending options, I asked for clarification on one. I received a bunch of lawyer jargon without a clear explanation to my specific question. But the final straw was when they ran a credit report while we were still just negotiating a percentage rate. I know they would have had to run one further down the process and I definitely did not give them my approval to do so at that time. I know the issue could just be that particular loan officer and not the company itself, because my last experience and loan officer was terrific. Worst communication and service I have ever seen with a lender. Day of closing and don't know whats going on. After several emails and phone calls nothing but short email resopnses. After trying to find out specifics about what document may be needed told to "give the loan to another lender, I am fed up with it". Went further down hill from there with emails insulting me as a Realtor and calling me a hack. This after the mortgage broker would not return even one phone call. They are pure evil. They will lie to your face while smiling. They go so far as to call upon "God" and "Family" in order to suck you in. "You have my word as a Christian and a FAMILY MAN" were statements repeated as assurances that they were above-board and trustworthy. They made promises that were NEVER delivered, and charged hidden fees that we will never be able to recoup. They promised a well-earned, $8,000 commission to the friend who originated the loan and referred us to them, and SCREWED HER by giving her exactly NOTHING. I could go on and on, but just thinking about this makes me ill. My prayer for these SCUM BAGS is that they turn their lives around, but I'm not holding my breath. Terrifying, disorganized, chaotic, unprofessional i cannot thing of enough bad things to say about my experience with Nova loans with my recent house purchase. It all started off pleasant until the process was underway then radio silence. Constant assurances that things were OK then a bombshell days before closing that the application was denied because assumptions had been made. Left scrambling to get last minute information when we had given notice on a rental and were moving out of. Hours the day of closing at the title company waiting for funds to be transferred, no information, no help not so much as a phone call to keep us informed. They will help you look for a house, pay to titles, pay a home inspector, and get the appraisal. And just one week prior to giving you the keys to your home, they will tell you your loan was denied. Because they didn't do their job right when collecting the documents from the beginning. Please be aware, that they can tell you your loan was denied even if they already had given you a closed day. Do not trust them, because you can get a big surprise as I did. I even finished my current house rent contract, sold most of my furniture. Believing I was going to receive the key to my new house soon. Very disappointing experience! Be aware, they deny your loan even if they had told you have been pre-approved. After paying to titles and having you look for home insurance. They will let you know you have been denied 4 days before receiving your keys. Don't trust them!!!! read more

Our experience with Paul Volpe and Nova Home loans was fantastic! First off, due to the Covid restrictions in place we handled everything telephonically and by email which I thought would be a hassle but it wasn't. I called Paul and he had me pre-qualified in about a day or two. He worked with my realtor Billy Mordka and knew my financial situation and what I was willing/able to pay for. Documents were able to be sent by email and signed and if I had questions (which I had a lot ), Paul answered them very quickly. I'm not sure he ever sleeps because he was able to return my emails at different hours of the day and a few at night as well. I would never expect an answer after business hours but Paul never made me feel like I was inconveniencing him with my questions and concerns. I recently completed a home refinance with Nova Home Loans. My loan officer was Paul Volpe. I was recently was engaged and wanted to put my fiance on the mortgage. We refinanced a 30yr to a 15yr fixed and Nova's rates were right there with the ones from lending tree (3.5%) but with a local person. I'm not sure what these other reviewers are talking about. My experience with Nova and Paul Volpe was better than I expected. I received excellent communication throughout the entire process. Paul was available by phone anytime I had a question and I felt great using a local Arizona company! There was a lot more due diligence than when I first took out the loan (2006) but that is to be expected given the times. They walked me through everything. We would definitely recommend Nova Home Loans and Paul Volpe. read more

My first clue something was amiss was when they started asking me for all kinds of crazy things like a letter of motivation on why I wanted to buy the house. I've had three mortgages and never been asked for that before. When I asked if all the crazy documents were really necessary for approval, they lied and said the documents were required by Fannie Mae. The week of close of escrow, and they wouldn't release the funds until everything was signed, so I had to sign and accept the property two days before the set date. Then, they still wouldn't release the funds until they called my employer the day of settlement at 11am to verify employment again. Two weeks after closing, they emailed me asking for more financial information, which I refused to provide. Two more NOVA people called me asking for the same thing. They also called and mailed my employer nearly a month after settlement asking him to verify documents I had submitted. In short, they lied, then asked me for more financial information after the deal had been completed, then started harrassing me at work. I had no problems at all with my two previous lenders. Stay away from these guys. read more

My experience was scary. As a past customer they had my data. Before I gave consent to pull my credit on a second house, this person, who I won't name, pulled my credit score without permission. I closed the deal with nova but during that time they gave me a wrong fax number to send a photo copy of my license. God knows who has my data now. I won't use this company again. read more

Nova means NO VA. I would advise all veterans to avoid a NOVA home loan like the plague. NOVA stands for NO VA. They are NOT veteran friendly at all. We found a nice house in Tucson, Arizona to be near my wife's family as they are not doing very well health wise. After filling out all the paperwork, Jim Davis of the NOVA office on Broadway had us all pre-approved for a VA loan and we were all set to close on May 24th. We were living in Wyoming and I transferred down with my job, however my wife was still under contract with her job until May 2013. A friend of ours invited her to stay with them for the remainder of the term, and she planned to come down on long weekends, holidays, etc. We packed the U-Haul with all our household goods and were staying with my In-Laws until the house was to close. I had made arrangements with U-Haul to keep the truck longer than the allotted time so that we wouldn't have to put it all in a storage facility. They graciously agreed. I have nothing but praise for U-Haul. They helped us more than NOVA did. On May 23rd, one day before our house was to close, we were called by Jim Davis's secretary. She informed us that Jim was in Texas and she was going to be handling our loan. She further stated that the VA had disapproved our loan! Jim Davis was absolutely no help and ought to be terminated for allowing us to be treated like this. We were told that the reasons the VA disapproved our loan was because I was not the Primary Borrower, nor was I the Primary Occupant, simply because my wife made more money than I do. I knew this to be true on a Conventional Loan, that the Primary Borrower and Occupant status is determined by who earns the most money, but this is not the case on a VA loan. Was told again by the secretary (wish I could remember her name), that it would do no good, the VA had disapproved the loan. My broker went to see the NOVA finance officials and was told by the CEO that there was no way in hell we were going to get a loan from them. Well the next morning I called the Veterans Administration Home Loans department. Here is basically a transcript of what I said: Me: "I have two questions to ask you to determine if I can proceed with what has happened to me. First, according to the VA, who is the Primary Occupant?" The man said, "The veteran." I said, "According to the VA who is the Primary Borrower?" The man said, "The veteran." I said, "Then it doesn't matter who makes more money, and where that money is coming from?" He said "No, the veteran just has to reside in the house." I then asked why did the VA disapprove my loan? After doing some checking he told me they had no record of my loan! I told him this was what NOVA had told me. He wanted their number, was going to call them and get back to me. About 20 minutes later the VA Representative calls me back and told me that he was told by NOVA that the reason my loan was disapproved was because my wife was earning her money out of State. Here they are lying to the VA Representative! That is not what they told me and I faxed him a copy of the denial which was blaming the VA! The VA Representative informed me that he could not make NOVA approve the loan, but he could withdraw their status as an approved VA Lender. He had told them this. NOVA then, within the hour, gave me a "Provisional Approval" until 5 pm May 25th, subject to my wife and I filling out more paperwork and jumping through more red tape hoops. With the help of my broker, C.L. "Buddy" McClellan, we were able to meet the deadline and we finally closed on the house on May 31. Don't waste your time. If you ask too many questions your loan guy will get mad at you. They state one thing and then tell you they never said that, like you are the dummy. They break promises and are terrible at communication. They tell you in the beginning that they get back to you quick on stuff. DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE. They have family in town or are in a meeting. Nova has no concern for your time whatsoever. They send you documents to sign and get angry if you take the time to read them and ask questions. Do the smart thing and find a better company. WORST place to try to get a loan. My husband and I have been trying to get them to finish our loan for more than a month. We have sent everything more than three times and they continually ask for the same thing. We have had to switch brokers hoping that the service would improve. We were sadly mistaken. Throughout the entire process we have had to stress over them "not understanding" what we have sent them several times. They have harassed my work place for Verification of employment five times for which my work has sent them the correct information all five times. We were not expecting much from a mortgage broker, but we were not prepared for the deception or poor service we experienced at nova. First, after consulting with a mortgage broker friend of ours from Nevada, we learned that the broker, Robert, was charging us 3.5 points on the loan. When confronted, he reacted emotionally, and kept trying to clean up his mess with more dishonesty. By this point, we were stuck, because if we dropped nova, we miss our closing date. We reported this to our real estate agent, who we trust, and he too was upset. Then, magically, Robert was able to drop our percentage to a more reasonable (but still not generous) rate. He made a lot of money, and although we closed on our house, the entire loan process left us disgusted. The final insult is the barrage of calls and mail we continue to receive about home and now life insurance, which is just as well because my husband and I would only use them again over our dead bodies. read more

To Whom It May Concern, I am *** & I am writing this complain in regards to a home loan Nova Home Loans was preparing for me. I was working w/ Loan Officer Chris Lawler (NMLS 869968), & I believe he used unprofessional & potentially exploitative business practices. My complaint centers around 2 issues: false representation of an interest rate (IR) "bait & switch" (B&S) sales practice; & exploitive & potentially fraudulent increase of an IR just to increase originator fee. His B&S tactic might potentially cost us losing the house my wife & I fell in love w/ & have an accepted purchase contract on. If that happens I will seek legal counsel for restitution & losses. "Bait & Switch" Sales Practice: My wife & I set out to sell our current home & buy a new home this year. I shopped around for competitive IRs & Chris verbally committed, during a phone call on 1/10, to a 3.75% IR. He did communicate the IR was not locked but would work to beat any IR I found. The IR Chris quoted me matched a very competitive IR I found at Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU). Since my real estate agent had a good working relationship w/ Chris & his IR matched NFCU I decided to proceed w/ Nova. I made it specifically clear, in a follow-up phone call on 1/16, I was shopping around & I would only stay w/ Nova if he could beat any IR I found, & Chris again committed to 3.75% IR, so I decided to move forward w/ Nova. On 1/10, Chris furnished a Loan Estimate (LE) via regular mail which had 3.75% IR. At that time my wife & I have not found a house yet. On 1/23, I returned the completed loan packet to Chris. On 1/25 we put an offer on a house that was later accepted on 1/26 at 12:16PM. Chris furnished another LE via regular mail dated 1/25 which still had 3.75% IR on it. On 1/26 at 2:42PM, Chris emailed me saying the market changed & the IR for my VA loan was 4.125%; which, is a difference of $112/month & a total of $40,378 different over the life of the loan. My concern does not have to do w/ the fact that the market changed. I'm pragmatic, I understand IRs change. My complaint centers around the timing of the communication of the change. The market had been changing for weeks. The home mortgage IRs do not jump 3/8% in a day. The timing seemed like a B&S. Anyone who works home loans knows timelines are tight. If Chris had communicated anything different earlier, I could have switched to NFCU w/o concern of losing the house. Chris waited until the very last minute to communicate the IR increased, when I had no other alternative. Exploitive & Potential Fraudulent Increase of IR: Additionally I am concern Chris may have fraudulently increased quoted IR to increase originator fee for Nova's & his benefit. Before Chris emailed me w/ a 4.125% IR, I told him I wanted to buy down points. Directly after, the quoted IR jumped, as illustrated by the difference in provided LEs, communicating 3.75%, & the email on 1/26 showing 4.125% less than 24 hours later. On 1/26 at 6:56PM Chris emailed me a screen shot from USAA, showing that an offer at 4% interest rate. Chris thought I was quoting a more competitive IR from USAA as I bank w/ USAA. This demonstrates that Chris knew the IR he quoted from Nova wasn't competitive, which further shows he had no intention of being competitive like he originally communicated at the onset of the loan process. The appearance is Chris increased the IR knowing I was willing to buy down points to increase originator fees to get to a more competitive IR. The fact Chris had all my financial records put him in a strong position to know who I might get a better IR from & what I theoretically could afford in originator fees. Knowingly offering less competitive IR to increase buy down points & originator fees runs contradictory to implied fiduciary responsibilities of a loan officer & even sounds criminal. *** read more

My husband and I submitted our application beginning of October 2012. We were conditionally approved and then they said they had to give it to their investors for another look, and they kept coming back needing more documents. They kept coming back "oh we should know something next week" next week would come "oh we should have something back from the investors next week now" Then we email the company and then they finally tell us that from what we have been hearing your loan isn't going to get approved but they didn't even say what they have been hearing? This company is not up front, honest, and they really have lack of communication with the client. I would not recommend this company for anyone unless you want to wait extreme periods of time and waste your time! Also plan on no one calling you back except for emails. read more

I was recommended to this company by a salesperson and I am very disappointed. They are not honest and will run your credit without asking permission. This has happened to me twice, with two different loan officers. I only came back three months later, because I was assured that they could get my loan done after a chapter 13 bankruptcy. The initial review of my file was to only see if I the loan could be processed and get a professional opinion, I was told they would not run my credit again without my permission. One star because their office has a Keurig. There is nothing else good to say about the place. Get a home loan anyplace else. My daughter applied for a home loan here and it was a total waste of time. They don't know what they are doing. Their caseload and greed is so huge they mix up all their clients. My daughter received financial information belonging to another applicant and they ask for the same documents to be submitted over and over, probably because they mix everything up and need your paperwork to share amongst their other clients. We spoke directly with Rich Hillman and he was highly unprofessional. He is also a liar. He was caught red handed lying over speaker phone. I would expect him to at least look over his clients files before he hands them over to an assistant and before he talks to you on the phone two months prior to closing to ask who you are and what your job is all over again.....be prepared to submit everything twice, be verbally abused, receive other people's private information, and kept out of the loop. Rich promises to be available night and day. Not true. He is way too busy making musical Nova videos to take your calls and questions. All talk, (he actually screams), and no action. My daughter went elsewhere and the lender did more in one day than Rich Hillman did in three months. They sit on information for weeks without telling you, ask for unnecessary documents, and actually penalized my daughter for having a college degree. Way to go Nova. I award you my 2016 bronze trophy for getting straight A's in unprofessionalism, unavailability, unfriendliness, unorganization, and untrustworthiness. read more

Beware of this company. They have lost their way. Their customer service is non-existent. They waited until the 11th hour of the loan objection deadline to look at the loan. At that time they raised an objection unbeknownst to either buyer or seller. By waiting until the 11th hour, they denied the buyer an opportunity to seek out a different lender and they delayed the closing by two weeks. When the unnecessary hoops had been jumped through 10 days later, they could not be bothered to process the loan because it was "the end of the month". When I contacted one of the principles of Nova, there was no response. The second contact resulted in no response. The third contact, produced a response blaming everyone but themselves. I would not use this company to process any future loan. Their loan processors' work ethic is questionable, the top people are unresponsive, and the lack of customer service permeates the entire organization. read more
