For all the ignoramuses who left dumb reviews - realize that in many states you can't refer to illegal drugs directly in smoke shops. We found Jasper to have the right amount of customer service. He greeted us but didn't annoy us. Most customers don't want to be super bothered when they go into a smoke shop - privacy is key. I wish I could do less then one star. I had came to this store loving it thought it was a good selection. I buy to pieces one 300 and the other 450 but got there annual 420 deal. As I am ready to fill up my brand new piece I am holding the rig by its long stem mouth piece and bam snaps. I then saw how a small hole was the reason that it had snapped with barely any force only weight. I've then realized that they had sold me a defective piece. Wanted to go back that night but I was all the way out of the city and further so I took a drive the next day. Thinking they would be nice about it and help me out since this situation is understandable. when you put each piece that broke together it resembles the hole and the crack all around from it as seen in the photos. I go back the next morning making the long and painful drive to be told all sales are final and there is nothing to be done. I am overly displeased with the fact my paycheck had been funneled into defective glass and possibly even off brand glsss being priced as the real thing. If you do go in here for some reason, make sure you double and triple-check your piece to make sure that it's in decent condition. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone, ever. Unlawful business practice. The owner Ali is shady, never again will I go to any of his stores. Stay away from Smoke Shop on Clark, Smoke Shop on North Ave, and Novelties & Stuff on Clark. They lie about exchanges for faulty equipment, my purchase being a hookah. I called on the day of my purchase June 11th and let Jasper the employee know the hookah was not at all hitting and something was off (I've been smoking for 12+ years), and worked with him on the phone troubleshooting but no success. I asked him about returning, he said best we can is exchange and I agreed to that and told him I would be back the following week due to my work schedule. I come in on June 17th and connected with a young lady who called the owner Ali, who was not at all helpful and was a grumpy person who seemed like he woke up on the wrong side of the bed. He claims no exchanges, however the picture I took at their register says otherwise! I left the hookah there and told them I would call my bank and file a quality claim. Been coming here for years and tonight was the last. I've never met anyone so rude working at a smoke shop. Jasper is the biggest tool and should definitely not work with people. He kept correcting everyone and shoving the word 'water pipe' down everyone's throat, I get it dude you're anal. He argued aggressively and answered his phone several times. My bf and I were looking for a "water pipe" aka bong, so we ended up at Novelties and Stuff. The place is pretty big and they have a wide selection of smoking devices... We had something very specific in mind (a small clear-glass double-chamber water pipe with a hexagonal base!) but we weren't able to find it. To their defense, we weren't able to find one in NY either (though, apparently they sell these on the West Coast). So I ended up getting something else. I went in to buy a piece and I got a great deal because I went in on 7-10 and less than a week later my glass attachment just broke into pieces and 5 min after that the rig itself did the same thing. I called them to explain what had happened and they said they could do nothing for me. I would not recommend this place just because their quality of glass is terrible and the fact that my 275$ piece broke within a week is ridiculous. Literally the worst customer service out of any shop in Chicago. Things have changed since the positive reviews years ago as it seems this shop used to be run better. "Jasper" is the rudest and least knowledgeable employee I have ever encountered. They carry a bunch of cheap crappy products along side good quality but will always try and sell you the worst products for the most money. They will LIE to you here! I explained to him what i was looking for and my price range. He showed me a piece that was absolutely perfect amd far under what I wanted to pay, and also offered it to me for cheaper than list price. This place is such a refreshing alternative to the other stores on Clark, especially Secrets. The main salesperson at Novelties and Stuff (Jasper) was incredibly friendly, helpful, and most notably, knowledgeable. He pretty much gave me every piece of info. one might need to know for making a truly informed purchase at this type of store. The prices are SO SO reasonable for this area. Cheap enough to make semi-regular trips there to stock up on supplies. I forgot to mention, the stock is the largest I have seen in the city, and I have been going to stores like this here for going on 10 years now. Hope this is helpful. read more

I bought a pipe..cashier repeatedly swipe my card..I kept asking him are you sure you didn't charge my card he said no your card isn't working. So I ended up giving him cash.Check my account later on in the night saw that he did charge me..called the store..cashier said he will speak to manager dont worry I'll get my money back...When into the store with printed out bank statement from Chase branch..owner didn't believe the charge went thru..contact chase while waiting in store which verified payment went thru..even spoke with claims representative...long stort short owner refuses to give me back my money..He says I am lying..chase is lying..he doesnt trust telephone lines or computers (well he should only he taking cash then)... Put in a dispute with chase..but when chase sends him docs so I can get my money he disputes which is wrong b/ he told chase while I was waiting he the store I paid cash so he isnt disputing that..he disputing Chase sent him money but then lied to Chase and said I didn't pay cash..now Chase is requesting a receipt he didnt give me one kuz I paid cash and the pipe is nonrefundable so why would I get a receipt is what I keep telling Chase...fucking bastard refuses to give me a receipt proving I paid in cash so now I have paid twice for ONE item ...bunch of crooks!! the staff seem knowledgeable enough, and they do have great pieces. My beef is their customer service, or lack thereof. I bought a vape pen from them about a month ago. The battery portion stopped working within that month. I took it in over last weekend and the employee there sold me a different battery unit for $10. Not too bad. I was happy. That battery unit stopped working that same exact night. I took it back in to figure out why. That employees solution was to sell me another new vape pen at full price, or just another new battery unit for $30. Now, when I buy something from a place and it stops working twice within a month, I would expect a replacement... if not free then discounted at least. Suddenly this $40 vape pen has turned into $50, almost $100 within a month. No thanks, I'll stick with glass from here on out. Also, there are about a dozen smoke shops on that block. This was one of the worst experiences of my entire life. First, we walk in and there was no proper greeting. The man at the front counter decided we weren't as important as the other MEN in the store is how I took it considering He never asked if we need help, which we did. We planned on spending money on a Hookah, tobacco, and some coal, but plans soon changed after we were yelled at as if we were children hanging out a smoke shop. The man proceeded to yell "use the proper terminology!" Apparently with all the bongs, and pipes you can't say the word weed. He spelled the word out as if we were mentally challenged, and continued to repeat if over, and over again. Never have I ever been disrespected like this in a store before. Not to mention I was with family, and recommended we stopped in since I've been before. Never will I go back to this place or recommend it to anyone.
