Around the world reminds me of the Places my Uncle used to take me when I was a kid. He was an avid Cigar smoker back when there was a Cigar store on every other block. This is a no frills store that is stocked quite well. Around the world consists of rows of humidors that are attached to the wall, and a counter on the other side of the store. I'm taking away one star for the lack of a smoking lounge, and another star for the fact that Around the world is a bit pricey. If you are looking to stock your humidor, you may want to try Binny's. But if you are looking for one or two Cigars to enjoy over the weekend, give Around the World a shot. read more

This is Chicago's safest cigar shop. There aren't any security cameras or iron gates, but Chicago's finest is here 24/7. Not because this is a bad neighborhood, but because the owner's CPD buddy seems to be hanging out here all the time. Prices are a little better than what you might find at Blue Havana, although the selection isn't quite as good. As another review mentions, Around the World is without a smoking lounge, and that would be a nice addition to the shop. But the owner is good enough to let you light up inside; some places are quite stingy about that. read more

Utopia. Heaven. Perfection. 6 Stars. I walked in and immediately felt like I was at home. The entire left side of the store to a painted door is all cigars, with more supplies/tobacco on the right and behind the counter. There are also "accessories" (read humidors, humidor supplies, cutters, ashtrays, etc...) for sale as well. Not much of a smoking area, but you can light up inside with no problem. I am SHOCKED by the couple of reviews that call the staff here "very helpful" and "friendly and laid back." I have visited this establishment once myself and the shopkeep seemed annoyed that he had to get up from the television in the back and help us. I already had a dismal attitude about the shop. Then, today a friend of mine was visiting from out of town and wanted to go get a cigar. When she and my roommate visited the shop, they were greeted with "we don't sell glass pipes here." Seriously, that was the first thing that was said to them, immediately upon entering the store. When my friend explained that she was there to buy a cigar, things didn't improve. The interaction ended with my friends leaving empty handed and the owner inexplicably telling them "I have more money than you anyways." I would definitely give no stars at all if possible. read more

The shop is conveniently located right off Belmont with street parking. The owner was exceptionally knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They have a very large variety, something to please everyone. I live in Streeterville--touristy and overpriced neighborhood--and was hanging out at a buddy's near this store. I stopped in to purchase a few cigars for the evening. The selection was good, but every cigar that I purchase at Uncork It in Streeterville was at least $4 more expensive at this place. How do you charge 30% more at a neighborhood "cigar shop" than at a Navy Pier tourist-trap liquor store? No, seriously, I'm asking. I also didn't realize that by bringing my business to them, I was so inconveniencing the clerk, who didn't look up or get up until I was ready to buy his overpriced cigars. I just got treated really rudely by this guy there. And i'm completely baffled by the high star ratings here, they are either people who work there or personally know the business personnel. I asked if a product was available and got a very crude "no, goodbye" from him. I dunno what it was about me that made him react that way but it's no way to greet a customer. I live in the area and I was a potential regular. I was looking for other brands too but i did not bother to ask. So, this is the fourth time I've been to this shop. The first three times were fine, or what I'd expect from a tobacco shop that wasn't being as pretentious as most, a dive-tobacco-shop if you will (my kind of place). The fourth time was today and I have to say, something is markedly different and in a good way. Nick the owner seems enthusiastic about getting the place back in shape and talked about how he likes to keep prices reasonable for his customers and recommend quality products based on what a customer can afford. As a pipe smoker and fan of swedish snus, I appreciate that he's beginning to take stock in the needs of pipe smokers and those who might like to try try swedish snus. Oh no! Silly Around the World owner, why didn't you stay open until 9pm like you so advertise on your business cards and front door? Being a newcomer to the area, I had to feed my clove addiction somehow and this was my first discovery. Being the lazy ass that I am, I became quite loyal until I dropped by, with only one cig to my name, at 8:30 and the store was closed. Stuck in a tailspin, I found that Din Foods (open 'til midnight) down the street carries my brand. Sadly, too, they were cheaper than the tobacco store. How does that work? read more

I can't believe anyone can say the people at this place are friendly!!! I went in with a simple question and the guy working rolled his eyes and was extremely rude. I simply wanted to find out if they sold cigar boxes, which they do, but didn't need attitude. I needed alot - but I sure won't buy them when the person working is obviously offended by my inquiry. If I could I would give it no stars!.. I walked in with some friends with the intentions of purchasing something I already had in mind. As soon as we walked in the owner rudely asked us if we needed something. We greeted him and he right away said we are actually closing already. We asked him again if he had a specific item n he pointed to it and we said can we get it and he totally ignored us and kept starring at us. Like really. Do u junk we were really gon steal from u or do something bad. Cmon now. He rapidly turned over the closed sign and started to turn off the lights. So rude and disrespectful. Never going to come again. As I walked out the hours sign said it closed at 9pm and it was yet 8:13pm. If he wanted to close early and would have been much more proffesional about it I would have totally understood. What a douche bag! read more
