I have been shopping at this store for decades! I remember when they opened off Academy/Wyoming, expanded and moved to current location. The owners have always been a bit snippy but I've loved their selection and knowledge so have kept quiet. Today I went in about 3:30 and was greeted by an adorable senior lady. She helped me look at some items I requested and as I checked out about 5 min. before closing. They are open 11-4, btw. The older lady was near the register and a mid aged guy was at front door manning the lock. I was the only customer. The older male owner came out and RUDELY berated the greeter lady for not being up front to greet at the door (door was already locked!). This was uncalled for and it happened right in front of me. The other staff was obviously embarrassed! It was like rudely, hostilely berating a grandmother!!! Unacceptable Sir!!!! I am not sure if this woman needs this job to make ends meet or if she works to stay busy or for some other reason, but either way she should be treated with respect. She lowered her head and wilted. I did say to her and the two women cashiering that no one should take that kind of insult at work and I left. I know this owner may have his own issues and not feel well or be stressed but that is no excuse for what I heard and saw!!! I will not be back- I've seen enough of his crap. Horrible!! We were greeted once we entered the store. Then this young girl was following us around the store. I told her I was browsing. This gal followed my mom around the store. Then another worker followed me around the store. So much for enjoying my time browsing at kitchen Knick knacks. I liked the many options they have for kitchen & cooking gadgets. I would have left more stars but there was no customer service. As I walked in, there was an older lady standing at the door "greeting" she didn't say anything to me. I didn't mind. An older couple came in and she greeted them and ask if she could help them. As I browsed the front she greeted everyone coming in. I went down next aisle. She seem to follow and asked the people next to me if they were okay or needed help. She ignored me again. Bugged me a little. She walked pass me twice and never asked if I needed help or was okay. She walked right pass me and asked the people around me. I notice she was following me never asked me anything just made me feel like I'm as being watched. When she notice me walking to the front door she stood by door watched me and didn't say anything. (She wore a red sweater had shirt grey hair) I left because of how she made me feel, At the time I was in there I was the only non Caucasian person in there. Stereotyping at its finest. This place is Kitchen Porno - I love it. I've always been Able to find random items here you just can't find elsewhere or, that you don't want to pay "WnS" prices for. Sure there's always things that stores like this don't carry, but for the most part, if there's something unique I need, I come here. Regarding the service - Its always top shelf. Whether you're being given a warm greeting by the door as you walk in or you're swapping recipe ideas with the help for feedback - the service here is always warm, friendly and helpful! I'm confused by some of the other reviews...not sure what may have happened...but if you had a bad experience here I'd give them another shot. I've even picked up a few hidden/secret baking tips from some the staff - that's worth a visit in itself. Lastly, I've recently returned an item where I had already torn off the package wrapping. I didn't use the product - but with the packaging missing, it'll be much more difficult to sell. That said, they allowed me to return it. I began reading the reviews because for a slight instance I considered going there again. I am very familiar with the store owners untrusting ways. She has everyone who enters the store followed. She must believe every single customer is a thief, that no one would possibly come to her store to buy items from her, only to steel them. This treatment has gone on for years. When they were over on Academy I went there about three or four times to PURCHASE things. At first it was fine. Then about the third time three women stood at the front door so close you couldn't get by. Immediately they would ask, what are you looking for or can we help you? Then like everyone says, they followed you around the store to the point you would just leave. It is so unprofessional. I remember I asked why they did that too, lol and the reply was, Oh just to be helpful. Yeah right. Granted they probably do get a couple of people who take things but to treat everyone as a criminal is so rude. I think the store is loosing more money treating people like this than anyone who would take something from there. So, after reading that nothing has changed in 15 years, I will never go back. How they stay open at all, is a mystery. Maybe since she is so paranoid she should close or sell out to someone who isn't so (you fill it in) better yet, Amazon has everything they have and you don't have to put up with being treated so rudely. read more

Customer service definitely needs to be worked on! As we entered the store, we were quickly noticed but no greeting was given. One sales clerk hovered over me as I was browsing cooking utensils while another literally followed my husband around through every single aisle, but never asked if he needed help. He noticed another customer browsing, but not being bothered. This behavior totally creeped us out as were truly enjoying cooking and were hoping to browse for some "fun" cookware and untensils. Two stars due to variety. This store does have just about everything and is locally owned which is a big plus since I try to buy local when possible even if it costs a few dollars more. The drawback is staff. A friend and I used to go there a lot until one day this young woman decided it wasn't enough that we told her we were just looking...no, she sidled after us up and down aisles so we left. I gave them another try last year and it wasn't too bad; I actually got to browse undisturbed. Shopping for a wedding shower recently was ok...no one bothered me and I was quite content and spent money. However most recently it was not good. As usual when I was greeted at the door, she asked can I help you and I said I was just looking. I wandered and headed for the knife display and again she asked plus said there are so many items it's hard to find some things. I told her I'd been there many times. I found what I wanted and then some, and was braced for the next encounter. Sure enough I was headed to the knife display to price one I didn't have and she wanted to take what I was holding. I nearly put it all back but said no thank you. By that time I'd had it and couldn't get out of there fast enough. To the owners...women especially like to browse. We wander. We find things we wouldn't ordinarily get, but if staff keeps asking what we are looking for we won't shop. Quit bugging us! If we want help we'll ask. I'm not sure I'll ever go back. read more

Wow! New store location and NEW Attitude and that is not a good thing! We have been shopping there for years ... at the old location but things they are not the same!! We have purchased everything from Shun Knives to Le Creuset and as much as I would prefer to buy local ... I guess we will stick with William Sonoma! Upon entry a horribly loud bell started chiming over and over , so loud that we could not even hear their greeting! We said hello & mentioned that the address is wrong and that they might want to change it on Yelp* and others ... to which the reply was and I quote " Oh I seriously doubt any one here is concerned with Yelp" ! Have come here before with my mom to look for superfluous cooking supplies. They are overpriced but we had gotten our specialty cheese slicers here in the past. THEY HAVE MOVED to Paseo Del Norte and Wyoming, and not updated their contact info. Lady I spoke to on the phone was extremely rushed and rude to me, not willing to repeat and speak slowly, and before I could ask a second question, she said "thanks have a nice day" and then hung up. Food is my raison d'etre. And this Thanksgiving, my wife and I intend to show off. So we got ourselves some fancy recipes to take T-day to the next level, but when your making stuff from scratch you gotta have the right equipment. Now We're Cooking is my go to place for a locally owned alternative to a place I won't mention but it rhymes with blood bath and beyond. I've been pretty lucky that I can usually always find good quality versions of the most necessary and or obscure items. The service is great. They always come right up to you when you walk in and take you to your item personally. Recently I've picked up salt and pepper grinders, pizza stones, brine and stuffing bags, English pudding steamers and tarte pans. Most of what I grabbed was pricey, high quality, and made in the United States or France, I don't mind spending a premium first to support local business, second to support made in USA and third to have something that will last and not screw up my food by rusting or failing in some other crappy way. That said, not all, but some items are just over-priced in any context and you can get them for about 30% less elsewhere, hence 1 star shy of what it deserves... read more

It's that kind of place. It has knives, spatulas, strainers, you-name-it. Men, be warned: if your lady friend wanders in here you will most likely end up paying for something. When I was in high school, I had this thing about buying kitchen gadgets. I had two big boxes full of them, and I was really determined to have every kitchen gadget on the planet when I finally moved out and got my own place one day. Of course, as it turns out, I lost most of them in all my subsequent moves, only ever used about three of them, and I don't even cook, my husband does. AND he is not a fan of gadgets in the kitchen. Classic. However, back then, it was a really good thing that I didn't live anywhere near Now We're Cooking - I would have spent a LOT of money there, and ended up with three or four boxes instead of just the two. I still get the urge to buy a bunch of the fun stuff they have in there every time I walk through the door. They really do have some great stuff. I can also point out a lot of things I used to have in my cool boxes o'gadgets back then - I guess I had good taste for at least part of it! Last time I was there, I had to resist the temptation to buy set of really cool bowls. They have the bowls I have wanted for years (stacking, multi-color, flecked, melamine or some tough poly material like that - sigh...) but apparently we have enough bowls already, or so he says. I can't see how anyone could not want those bowls, and I would be happy to give our current bowls to Goodwill! Sheesh! I have literally spent several hours wandering their aisles - one time they asked me if I was okay, looking sincerely concerned. I think they thought I was casing the joint. I left quickly, that time - but I will be back! If you need anything for your kitchen, it's a safe bet you can find it at Now We're Cooking. If you can't find it there, you have unreasonable expectations. ;) Go by and have some fun checking it out. Even if you don't buy anything, it's a great time just playing around with your imagination and their amazing selection. Just don't go on Sunday - it's yet another one of those ABQ stores who feel Sunday is a good day to lose customers on one of their two days to really shop. Have fun! read more

REALLY? I was in search of a food processor and a quality mixer. While browsing a woman approached, asked if I needed help, I declined her offer, telling her I was browsing. Her response was to follow me around- I felt as if she was "watching" me... Lady- please- it isn't like I am going to shove a Cuisinart down my pants and bolt for the door! To test my paranoia, I casually strolled to the utensil aisle... well, she came around one end and an associate appeared at the other. COME ON...neither said a word, just pretended to fix shelves... Very uncomfortable experience. I did make a purchase, and at check out, asked to speak to the manager.To my disappointment, the manager, who identified herself as the owner, was the same woman who was watching my every move. So, if the manager is comfortable treating customers in this way, there is no point returning. The store is nice, lots of interesting and useful items, but I can purchase those elsewhere, you know at the stores which greet you in a friendly manner, and let you know to let them know if they can help- allowing you to browse and shop in comfort. Guess what? I purchased my high end professional Kitchen aide mixer (500.00) and my Cuisinart Profesisonal (400.00) at one of their competitors. read more

I live about 20 miles from this store and I think it sucks that you cannot phone to see if they carry the item I need before I waste time and gas driving all the way over maybe for nothing. If they cared about their customers they would have a person at each store to answer questions not just a central robot to tell you the hours, which you can see online. The owner was rude, unhelpful, and did not want to accept my return. He made me feel terrible from trying to return a product, even though I had just purchased it the previous day! I have never written a negative review nor asked to speak to a manager. Come to find out- this guy was the owner! Darn shame. The rest of the staff seemed nice enough. But I would never ecourage anyone to give this owner any business.
