To my delightly surprise, they had 00 beers, which were iced cold too! The DJ spun some lively and eclectic music that the entire room was dancing too, song after song. Nowhere, 322 E. 14th Street between 1st Ave & 2nd Ave. With it's long green awning running to the sidewalk, and an underground location with fairly low ceilings, Nowhere is a unique but popular club for the young set. Long and narrow, it has some interesting little stone-and-brick side nooks common to basement bars, but it was appropriately lit, and even has a quirky faux-fireplace. We arrived a bit after 11 pm on a Friday night, and it was packed wall-to-wall with a young crowd of straights, lesbians, and gays that mixed well. The bear-cub bartenders were working quickly and efficiently, and in spite of the pace, were still friendly and in good spirits. There was a covenient and much-needed coat check at the front door, and a pool table in the very rear, which, in spite of the crowds making a game difficult at best, was quite active. There was no room to dance, but the music was very good. This is a young person's place: my BF and I were definitely the bar Daddies. After initially rating this bar rather low unless you're in with a younger crowd. (and the bartenders *were* adorable), we received an email from a friend who wrote , "I've been throwing a weekly Bear Party at Nowhere every Tuesday called "Buddies" for four years. It's really popular. Most nights there are plenty of Bear-types there, too, even Fridays. Were you there on the 17th by chance? [As a matter of fact, we were!] I was spinning at The Eagle and just about everyone who might have gone to Nowhere was with me." Many Thanks to Damien for his response. Gay bar (mostly if not all, white gay men) illegally denies entry to queer woman of color with a psychiatric service dog....HA...what a headline!!!! ILLEGALLY denied me entrance with my service dog. I was caught so off guard when the bartender and security would not let me in, and continually told me "the dog will not be allowed unless he is a seeing dog"? The lack of knowledge they had about ALL TYPES of service animals was shocking, but what was even more horrifying was the disregard to even listen to me explain (in WAY more detail than necessary) what kind of services my service dog provides for me and how I needed him with me in their space. I was very patient and continued to try and educate them both, in a very honest, vulnerable, and friendly way, yet the hostility I was met with was saddening, the bartender kept walking away before I could finish any of my sentences and was incredibly rude. He clearly had zero humanity/empathy/or human capacity to listen, or even to feel some slight emotion of sorry-ness, he seemed so adamant and happy about basically kicking me out. After about 10 minutes, I simply gathered my two friends and left the bar. Thinking this exhausting experience was over, the bartender called out to us ON THE STREET (leaving his post at the bar) and ran towards us, just to say I was wrong and that after he did some googling, I needed a license in the state of NY for my service dog, which is absolutely NOT REQUIRED to be shown and no establishment can even ask for this kind of proof/documentation. read more

I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the treatment my sisters experienced at the Nowhere bar from bartender Valentina. Their actions were not only unprofessional but also showed a blatant display of racism and hostility. According to my sisters, a bartender "Valentina" threatened to call the police and ICE simply because they were in a space Valentina felt they didn't belong. They were told, "Get out of my bar. I don't like you people. I'm calling ICE. I am calling the police on you". My sisters were left shocked and extremely hurt by this traumatic experience. This isn't just about one bartender or one bar--it reflects a much larger issue. Queer bars are supposed to be safe spaces where people, especially queer individuals, can feel welcomed and accepted. To be met with threats and discrimination instead is deeply disheartening. These spaces should be places of safety, not environments where people feel fearful or unwelcome. It's upsetting to see how some individuals can express such hostility so freely, especially in a place meant for inclusion, refuge, and freedom. Nowhere bar needs to do better to ensure their space lives up to basic standards of safety and respect for EVERY patron that enters their establishment. read more

If you are a young female and do not want to be sexually assaulted do not enter this bar. My 21 year old daughter and her friends were all sexually assaulted in the private dance room Monday 7/1/24 after being lured into this room by staff with offers of free dances. NYC Special Victims Unit is investigating this shit hole of a bar. Sad that a vacation to NYC ends in horror because of Nowhere Bar. Avoid this place. Looking through past Yelp reviews and seeing this criminal activity has been going on for years. The owners should be ashamed and the city needs to shut this place down. read more

I was assaulted by the freaking stripper in this establishment, who choked me after dragging me from the bathroom into the dark room trying to charge me $70 for holding my hand! This establishment needs go,judging from the previous comments assault occurs frequently here. Be ware if you're gay. Not only that the management is protecting the same people who are destroying this community, the bouncers, management all need to be fired. This has been a favorite East Village hangout for about 15 years now, but the new manager is MAGA and always gets rude when there's a group of Latinos at the bar. When he was bartending one night, he told one of my friends how's "sick of you people" because he (the bartender) was having a bad night, I guess. The bar has been getting more "diverse" events lately and I hear the "regulars" didn't like it, so with a MAGA manager now, it won't be welcoming to POC much longer. read more

At midnight, a vaping bridge and tunnel fray boy screamed "Happy 25!" at the top of his lungs to a young straight sorority girl. There was a smattering of queer folks around the bar outnumbered by obnoxious, loud, straight college students who love gay bars because they're a "novelty." Instead of trying to understand what had happened, the manager started yelling at everyone coming down the stairs. The people at the front who had caused the delay either didn't hear him or were busy fixing a shoe. When we tried to explain that we weren't the ones holding everyone up, he refused to listen. He immediately kicked us out without giving us a chance to speak or understand the situation. The only positive part of the experience was the supervisor, who was very polite and professional. He explained that even though we had been removed only about 10 minutes after entering and after paying the entrance fee. we wouldn't be allowed back inside. The staff serving drinks and the atmosphere were great, and they clearly put effort into hiring attractive, friendly staff to create a fun environment. Unfortunately, none of that matters when the security team and Que the manager completely ruin the experience. The security staff and especially the manager provided one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had at a venue. It was extremely disappointing to travel all the way from NYC only to be treated this way. The manager's behavior was completely unnecessary, disrespectful, and unprofessional. We expected much better customer service.

If one person orders and then another person orders, why would you assume those two people are on the same tab? And then make the second person pay for a strangers drinks without even an apology? Ritz was closed for taking advantage of innocent people and they should have stayed closed. Also, don't pay attention to these paid 5 star reviews. They are obviously paid to heighten Ritz' star rating. You've been warned!!!

The vibe was fun and we were there several nights every week and especially weekends. RuPaul's Drag Race ruled at least one night a week. The Ritz is not ritzy anymore, and in need of a facelift. The front bar is the only area serving during happy hour, and later during some weeknights. We still managed to have a good time last week as "tourists" but The Ritz is no longer The Place to be. We hope for a shot of botox so it can be true to its neon sign again: F*cking Gorgeous.
