My husband and I tasted brats from Nowicki's Sausage Shop when we went to a craft show in Warren, MI and all I can say is wow they are good! We bought several flavors and froze them. My favorite is the Potato Cheddar. My husband loves the Hawaiian. I have a Johnsonville Brat cooker and it's sooo easy to make them! They have other products too like bacon, ribs, fresh kielbasa ect. that we plan on buying in the future. I highly recommend them! Absolutely on point for a sausage shop. So many choices of not just sausages but pickled items, etc. Looks like they are working to gather (or have been working) the lunch crowd. Several large roasters were in use while we were there and people filtering in to grab a bite. I picked up a package of Polish sausage to try for dinner and it was so good. Browned with some caramelized peppers and onions? Oh yeah. Just delicious flavor and great snap with the casing. Prior to leaving for Indiana we stopped and bought another $50 worth of meats for the freezer. Had some last night and reminded me I forgot to review! The sausages are vacuum sealed and ready for the freezer. Brown and serve. We will certainly return next time in Alpena to restock the freezer and try some different meats. read more

My partner and I were driving around exploring the area when we stumbled across this place. My partner loves German food so we figured why not. The layout is self-serve and the super friendly (and handsome) gentleman at the counter, Jason, was full of recommendations about about the sausages and condiments available. The dining room is small but clean and cozy. I'm not a huge bratwurst fan but the Cuban brat is BOMB. I enjoyed it so much I felt the need to high five my new pal Jason for giving such a good recommendation. He was also full of knowledge about the cool old building and the other products they sell. WOW!!! If you're looking for some GREAT tasting Open Face Sausage sandwiches, look not further. This little Gem is located in an Historic German Dance Hall which is kind of ironic since these sausages are the best I have had since i was stationed in Germany!!! Highly recommend their Jalapeño & Cheddar Brat!!! This one is PACKED FULL of flavor!! I also tried their Smoked Jalapeño Cheddar Brat which isn't as spicy and had just the right amount of smoke flavor and spices to make you want to come back for more!!! We were very disappointed in the Kiszka we purchased from Nowicki's Sausage Shoppe. The only thing that was similar to actual kiszka was that it contained barley. It was not a blood sausage and it contained more offal (snouts, skin, cartilage, etc.) than it did meat. It was a waste of almost $40 (2 rings with shipping). Nowicki's solicited a review from me, which I supplied, but they never posted it. I guess they don't want anyone to think they have dissatisfied customers! Okay - it's not a restaurant. Really, and that's OK. It's a sausage-fest (dirty pun NOT fully intended - sorry!) Home-made brats that are VERY tasty. No real sit-down-serve type arrangement - it's like a gigantic wiener wagon. But good! There are daily special brats, mettwurst, and other on-site made local yummies with a Tyrolean/Polish flavor (insert favorite Blitzkrieg joke here.) Basically, plan to stop in for lunch, eat outside (if the weather is clement), or in their small set aside area (if it isn't.) Don't miss their Landjaeger (basically summer sausage), which is also quite delicious. You can also get a "Home of the World's Longest Sausage" tee shirt here, too. How could it miss??? read more

We ordered 24 brats for a large party. The 45th beer brats were cooked by the shop in beer so I could brown them over charcoal and serve...easy. They came out flavorful, but not hot spicy, and got good reviews from all the guests. I'll be back. read more

Absolutely a must visit. Nowicki's makes the BEST sausage and brats. Also, the Thunder Bay Sausage and the Potato Burgers are really, really good too! Best thing about relocating to Northern MI was that I was closer to this place! Listed as under $10, but that's probably for the brat-in-a-bun for $2.50. Be prepared to drop some fair money for the best if you're taking some packs home. We usually spend $30-40 to stock up with a few of packs of brats and some burgers/sausage. I bought a half pound of regular salami and two cooked bratwursts on buns on a Friday at lunchtime. The sausage was tasty and I liked that you didn't have to wait for the brats - they were hot and ready to go in a steamer. You prepare them with buns and mustard and condiments as you like, sit down, eat - fast and simple. I had a Polish brat and a cheese & potato brat - both were pretty good. Good fresh sausages, not factory made, so that's good. I was the only person eating in there, which is a shame because this place is a good lunch spot. I don't understand the near-emptiness of every good food spot I went to over a weekend in Alpena! Wake up, people! read more
