A hidden gem in North Michigan! I was visiting Alpena for a diving trip and was recommended this place. Specifically the Fire Burger and their Poutine. Our party was 6, they gave us "outdoor beers" and a pager. When a table opened up we sat down and I was immediately impressed. Our server was friendly and helpful, super sweet. She handled our accommodations (one of my friends had a lot of specific "requests" for his meal.) We got the poutine and mozzarella sticks for our appetizers... holy sh*t.... The poutine was INCREDIBLE. The mozzarella sticks were clearly house made. Just absolute perfection. I took the recommendations of my friend, and got the Fire Burger... insane. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Great beers. Great apps. Great burger. Just an all round great time. You owe it to yourself to try this spot.... And if you don't think so, you probably hate puppies and America. read more

Not our first time here so we know what to expect. Tried to dine and drink outdoors on the patio as it was a nice day, however, the outdoor servers were not attentive. We waited 5 or 10 minutes for one of them to take our order but no luck, they were more interested in yacking to each other than taking orders. We decided to head inside where one of the bartenders came over and took our beverage order. The beers were good, 45th Paralyzer, Cherry Bomb, and a Pilsner. When they brought the beers they took our food order. All items we purchased were excellent; poutine fries, ribeye mushroom Swiss sandwich, and the classic cheese burger. WARNING, the poutine fries order is huge, best to split between 2 or 3 people. The building is nice and there are ample outdoor seating options and indoor you can sit at standard tables or high tops. Best Douple IPA I've ever had. The Paralyzer. And so thrilled to learn they distribute across Michigan. While the menu is not extensive, the options are ample and the quality was excellent. This place made our first visit to Alpena incredible. It is fairly spacious if you include the covered patio and definitely good for small groups. Not a very big menu and the food was just alright but we heard it's better in the Summer (more choices) The service was good as we went during a slow period. Ambiance was okay. Overall not sure if we will be back as we're not into all the craft beer but if it's your thing then check it out. read more

The staff was amazing. Angel is a rockstar server, who just delivered. They took us in, even though it was close to kitchen close and never thought twice about it. The 3 dip starter was out of this world! The rainbow trout dip was the star of that show, never would have expected that to pair so well with the fresh cucumbers. Our entrees were great, and the homemade fries were perfectly crisp and went so well with the house made ketchup. Really appreciated the BBQ joint ambience and its simplicity. Food was perfect! And the beer is great also. The inside is quite small so you're more likely to find a table outside. They have a really neat open area as well that you can roam around in. Overall this place was great to hang out at. I even bought beer to go because I was so impressed with it and I knew I wasn't going to be able to get any when I traveled back home. I stopped here during my M-23 tour and enjoyed a 4 beer 5 ounce non flight board flight an appetizer and a late dinner. The beers were very good with my favorite being the Sumo Sumatra. My appetizer was the white fish dip that was huge and could definitely feed 4 people. The assortment of crackers and breads that came with it was wonderful. My entree was the chicken bacon ranch sandwich with fries was excellent. Indoor/Outdoor bar and flattop seating. Log cabin/wood theme. Clean with very good service. Wifi. Pre packaged beer along with souvenir glasses, shirts, etc. for sale. I took home a 4 pack of Sumatra. I would highly recommend if you're in the area. read more

Austin Brothers... I've heard this brewery on more than one occasion and took the opportunity when I had a chance to try some of their beer. Steve and I had one beer from Austin Brothers and it was okay. It was the Murkin Man Blues IPA, a New England hazy style IPA. As I have said before I'm pretty picky with this type of IPA and felt like in my brewery adventures the best ones I've had are near the East Coast. This one I felt like was again just fair. It wasn't the most memorable one I have had and will be one that I will have trouble recalling into a blur of beers on brewery adventures that don't stick out. I wouldn't say this beer is a failure and meets all the basics for this IPA but I felt like I wasn't trying anything all that unique. read more

The food is great BUT if they are busy and you get there anytime after 6:30 they will not serve you food. I've had this happen 3 times. Even on Saturday! They do NOT serve food until 8. Greatest place I have ever stumbled upon. My brother and I travel around the state for work once a month and we stop here every time we come to alpena. The atmosphere here is so comfortable and inviting. The service is extremely fast, I dont know how they get the food out so fast and exceptional. We won't eat breakfast just so we can have an empty stomach to eat all of the lunch. There is nothing on the menu that I wouldn't recommend, it's phenomenal. Absolutely loved this place! Made a day trip with my friend to Alpena, and I would drive 3 hours for the food alone. The hot brisket sandwich.. there's no words for HOW good it was! Cheese curds on a sandwich.. amazing. Plus the zing you got from the honey on the brisket meat was a nice combo. The whitefish dip was also delicious, and you get A LOT. The draft beers were delicious. The cherry bomb was our favorite, but we tried a different assortment. Another great Michigan brewery, and we will be back! read more

Austin Brothers Beer is a great spot to grab a micro brew and relax with friends. The overall atmosphere is casual and laid back. Grab your favorite flannel shirt and pull up a stool at the bar. They have a large selection of beers to choose from. I was excited by the amount of porters available on the menu. I tried the milk stout, which has a nice deep roasty flavor with a unique smoothness that you'll just have to try if you're into porters. Their seasonal cherry bomb is also good too if you like Cherries when it's available. I was also surprised by their full menu of food complete with starters, apps, and entrees. I went with the beef and broccoli dish which was quite good. The tenderness of the beef cubes and crunchy crispiness of the broccoli was spot on. Looking around the room, their pastas and pulled pork sandwiches appeared to be great choices too. If you're in Alpena, and you love beer this is definitely a must stop on your itinerary. They even have large cans of beers to go, which are poured fresh from the tap and canned right in front of you. Arrived Saturday at 11:50am, was seated promptly at noon. Waitress Erica was friendly and efficient. By 12:15 just about every seat, indoor and patio, was taken. The outdoor waiting area of tables and chairs were also filing up. It looked like some had beverages to tide them over until they were able to be seated inside for food service. The atmosphere was outdoor woodsy, and very clean. They also had a wide assortment of merch for sale. Rueben and brisket sandwiches, both with fries, were hot and tasty. Flavor of both meats were surprisingly smokey, but in a pleasant way. Husband thoroughly enjoyed the Blonde Ale. We'll look forward to our next visit! read more

This is the first time I've been here and I heard rave reviews from co-workers. I went in for an early dinner... the place was really clean and a completely great hang out spot! The beer selection was pretty vast but sadly due to the night before, I was only drinking water... As far as the burger and fries, really good and would order again. The only "beef" I have with the burger is that it appeared to have too much mayo? On it and it was leaking outside the burger. But it was really good! Just be mindful! The fries were ON POINT. Perfect flavoring and crunch. There were SO MANY fries. I chose to try and dip them in ranch or the garlic aioli... The food and beer menu looked good so I gave it a try....Well I can honestly say the food was fabulous...I had the Roadie burger...it was damn good and hit the spot...I tried a few samples of beer and sours...all were good but the Raspberry Vanilla Porter was my favorite....so much I bought some to take home. All and all the atmosphere was good and the staff was kind and attentive...even though they were slammed for lunch time!!! The price is more than fair for the quality and portions. If your in the area and don't try it...you've missed out...if your in a place that sells Austin Brothers Beer...give it a try....neither opportunity will disappoint!!!! When I walked in I was greeted right away and with kindness. Asked all the right questions and even though they were busy had a table bussed almost immediately.
