Sunday night, I didn't realize how almost all the restaurants are closed in Alpena. All but 3 were still open around 8pm so it made sense to go to JJ's Called in my order around 8:20 and the server was joking on the other end which made for a pleasant order experience. Said I ordered the best item currently as his favorite was the Chicken Wrap as well. Said my order would be ready in 30 min. So it gave me time to wrap up some work and walk on over since it was a 10 min walk. Got to the restaurant and I told the lady seating people down I was there for carry out and she redirected me to the bar. Once at the bar the lady took my name and went to the back to grab my meal. When I thought a simple chicken wrap, I didn't think it would be so huge. The portion for it was quite generous. I had also asked for a side of gravy for my fries and damn, it was a whole side tub. If you're eating here, def be ready to be served. As I was leaving they had some Halloween decorations ready for spooky season. Terrible deep dish pizza. All dough no toppings hardly. Not even much cheese. Staff did nothing when they were told about it.

I had a really good lunch at JJs. It's one of those places I wish I was able to give an extra half star rating and make it a 3.5. Server was absolutely delightful. Restaurant had a cool vibe about it and the food was better than good. The taco salad was huge and the bite I had was very good. I had the French dip and fries. Fries were perfectly cooked and the sandwich was also really good. The only improvement I could suggest would be to toast the hoagie roll on the French Dip, which they may have done if I had asked. Busy place but the menu is all over the place. Mediocre food at least the meals we'd had the few times we went. The bone in Wings are awful. Only reason they didnt get 5 stars was that the second time eating there me and my wifes chicken fried steat hadbrown greavy on it. Food is serviceable at best, the pizza is fine and the staff are kind and seem to know their customers. Things can be a bit dark, its a bit hard to navigate the interior. The place is usually busy when we go so things are a tad too loud for enjoying a meal or going on a date. read more

Came back here for our 2 nd time because the first experience was excellent. We ordered a Medium burger with grilled onion deluxe was perfect. Also ordered the Monti Cristo sandwich it was hot excellent and grilled nicely. Today the service was great with the lovely bartender but the food was horrible. We waited awhile and not that busy. Moms burger was to be Medium it was well done she ate it anyhow. My Monte Cristo was soggy and not very hot. I ate it anyhow. Over it!! My sisters burger was to be MR. Came out like a hockey pucks, sent it back still came out dead the same as the first. My sister brought this to the attention of the waitress she said she would give us her discount. I ordered fish and a baked potato as you can see in the picture the potato was rotten, the fish was cold, soggy and tasteless. The tarter sauce tops were melted as you can see in the other picture. I called in to talk to a manager, I talk to Arlin he yelled at me and told me he was a farmer, it wasn't his fault the potato was rotten. To top it off they didn't give me my salad that I ordered. First of all the décor is creepy. The waitress was not attentive at all and the menu said raspberry sauce for the monte Cristo and never said anything about it being spicy. I put it on my sandwich and when I took a bite, I started to gag and the burning was terrible. When we asked about it we were told it was habanero raspberry sauce. When we talked to the manager about it, he just laughed and said we sell a lot of it and people love it, we told him that was not the point the point was it should say it is a hot or spicy sauce again he just laughed and started talking to a man that was from the place across the street. Terrible service, terrible food. We're here for 2 hours to be served cold, undercooked food. The icing on the cake was when the server brought out my steak, and laughed as she told me they had no steak knives....I told her I wasn't sure I would be able to cut it, tried with a butter knife, failed, and 15 minutes later had to ask if they'd cleaned a knife for me. 5 minutes after that I was finally brought one. I guess the upside is that although I wanted my kids to be tucked into bed well before the time we left the restaurant, they were excited that they were still up to catch the fireworks display. So we came with two other parties. Both had water, drinks and started to order food before we even saw our server. I had asked a server in our section initially to put in our drinks, and she said she'd get our server. Cool. JJs is locally owned pizza place that I always have to have when I come home! The pizza sauce is the perfect combination of sweet and savory. I love a pizza with a lot of toppings and they always load the pizza with toppings. I recommend getting a pizza with lots of different toppings. They will load the pizza up and get a side of pizza sauce to dip the crust in! They have a drive thru window so you can place your order ahead of time and just drive up and grab your pizza. Great food selection, and the salad bar is quite good- nothing outrageous, but everything has always been fresh. And they do NOT thin their Ranch dressing. Points for that! Pizza is really good, the crust is terrific. Had a Porterhouse today, it was good, but could have used some more seasoning. It would have been nice if they had other steak sauces besides the cheap GFS/Sysco "Crown" steak sauce. The raspberry dipping sauce for the waffle fries was great. Kind of a donut filling taste. The customer service was so horrid that we didn't even get a chance to order food. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated, our seats were taken from us. I mean that in a literal sense. The manager made us get up and she carried our seats into another seating area, where they sat empty as we walked by them as we left. JJ's has a very robust menu but may be best known for their pizza. Stopped in near 11am this last Saturday with my family and the in-laws. My three went for the all-you-can-eat soup, salad and pizza bar that was very good with many hot and fresh pizza selections to choose from. My father in-law was in the mood for soup and sandwch, he asked what the soups were and was told that there was no soup available until 3 o'clock. We did notice the absence of soup from the salad bar, so he settled and ordered just a sandwich. Folks were seated at the next table while we ate and another server took their order. The gentleman ordered the salad / pizza bar but also inquired about soup and was also told that soup wouldn't be put out until 3 o'clock but this server offered and did bring out a bowl of soup from the kitchen for this customer. Called in to place a breakfast order for several people from a local business. I realize it was a busy holiday week and was willing to be patient. I was told delivery was not available until 11. Apparently this was supposed to be common knowledge because I was rudely informed that is how it has always been. I asked my fellow coworkers if they wanted to go pick it up and was then told that there were 45 people already in the restaurant so it was going to be a long wait. If Jjs doesn't want to offer take out, then they should just say so. I personally have never placed an order with this establishment and will not be looking to give them the opportunity for my business anytime soon. They may not have wanted our order yesterday, but we routinely support the local restaurants during the slow winter months too. At the very least, train the people answering the phone to be decent or keep them away from it. read more

Ordered take out from JJ's with quick results. The pizza is really buttery and has a nice putter crust as well. Sadly though, the website does not tell the customers that they close the kitchen pretty early and we were unable to get any other side dishes with our pizza. I hate to do this because the food is excellent but here it goes! Due to personal reasons I'm not comfortable sitting down in a bar atmosphere so I called and placed a to go order for later in the evening for two orders of prime rib the person answered the phone told me that they do not have prime rib even though it's on their menu and it's a well-known Saturday special. I went into the restaurant to double check and was told yes they have prime rib but the person answered the phone thought I wanted it before serving time at dinner. I placed the order in person without difficulty and then had to call back in to change the side and was told that the prime rib is an in-house special only it is not available for a bowl for carry out even though two servers were right there when I ordered it and had no problem putting it in the computer. Get your shit together and understand they lost a $40 check today because I am ordering elsewhere! read more

We came with two little boys and were planning on getting the pepperoni rolls. The waitress was very helpful when she let us know it was smaller than we had imagined. A quick change to a small pepperoni pizza for an extra dollar was well worth it. Also, for an extra dollar, access to an unlimited salad bar is well worth it! There was a chicken florentine option, but I wish there was a Greek pizza too. Decor was interesting. There was plenty to look at if you like taxidermy.
