Scott tutored my daughter for the general test of the GRE. He curated a study plan for individual sessions in addition to the planned course outline. I started taking private lessons with Scot first because I needed help with the Verbal section in the GRE. Private sessions helped me a lot. Then, I took (2) group sessions to improve my Math score. At the time, I've been working in industry for about 6 years so I really needed to brush up on my math and reading comprehension skills. Scot is an amazing tutor who is very knowledgeable in many areas in academia. During his sessions, he taught me how to maximize my Writing score on the GRE. I'm happy to say that I scored a 5.5 out of 6. I achieved this through Scot's recommendation of practicing essays on a daily basis. I took the 6 week GRE prep study course with Scot. Overall, I thought that the course offered a good structure and provided me a lot of good tips for the quantitative section. The most valuable part of the class were my "aha!" moments about simple strategies to avoid doing the complicated math and instead utilize logic. Comparatively, obviously the cost of the class is extremely competitive. I would say that I would like to have been able to delve into some more difficult material. I came in testing at 318 with the goal of 325-330 or above and there came a point where I felt as if I had mastered the basic material covered in the class and instead needed more help with the difficult subjects like combinatorics. I think Nth Degree might benefit from providing two sections of this class, one aimed at students who are already high in their scores, but want to burst beyond that 90th percentile. I would pay for that! I will also likely end up paying for a private tutor session with Scot if I have any remaining questions about the difficult material not covered in the course, because he was very helpful overall. I attended the six-week GRE course offered this past spring. The class met every Saturday from noon-3pm. I had never studied for or taken the GRE so I was starting from scratch, and I have Scot to thank for my score that far exceeded my expectations. I absolutely recommend Nth Degree tutoring to anyone who is interested in in-person test prep services! I took Scot's GRE 1 class which covers every section of the GRE. My math score improved by 6 points and overall I felt much more confident taking the test than I would have without his preparation. I attended the GRE tutoring class here and it was extremely helpful! I enrolled in this class for the 6 weeks prior to my 3rd attempt of the torturous exam. At first, I chose this class because of the GREAT PRICE! (And great yelp reviews). But after completing this course, I can confidently say it was the best decision I ever made. First, I should say- Me and the GRE do not get along.. I hated the entire process. Scot really helped me to change my attitude ever so slightly, so I could focus more on the material rather than my hatred and improve my score :) I was most worried about the math section, although the reading and essay portions are most important for my major (speech-language pathology). We focused on each of the sections equally pretty much, and after the 6 weeks I felt SO much more prepared than I ever had the previous 2 times I took the GRE. I ended up raising my math score by 11 points!! My essay score raised by 1.5 points! And my reading score raised 2 points, but it was the perfect amount because it was all of the scores I needed!! Now, obviously I can't give this tutoring class all of the credit.. I did A LOT of studying on my own as well. BUT- I can give the class all of the credit for motivating me to actually work and try my hardest. I can also give credit to Scot for really taking the time to teach many concepts that I wouldn't have grasped as well on my own. For example, there are some math concepts I just do not remember from High School, and there's only so much I can grasp from reading the steps in a textbook. I am a very hands-on visual learner. So I found it extremely helpful to have someone there to walk me through the steps, multiple times with help and on my own. Also, in the past I had never studied for the essay portion of the test, I just didn't know how. Scot was very helpful in this area because he provided a lot of tips about organization and key words, and he explained the grading process. This helped me a lot because I knew exactly what I needed to write and how to write it, regardless of the topic. Lastly, the small setting of the class is AWESOME! There was only 3 people in my class (which is the minimum by the way). This was great for me because I felt like I was in a comfortable environment to ask questions freely and make mistakes. Scot was able to teach the class based on each of our levels and areas that we needed help with. In comparison, if the class consisted of 20 people with 20 vastly different academic levels, it wouldn't cater to each individual as much. Also, when one person doesn't come to class one week (or 2 people- like happened to me once)... You have a whole class that is one-on-one! That's three hours with just you and the teacher, able to focus on specifically your needs! Overall, I would recommend this tutoring class/company to anyone and everyone!
