My husband said this is one of the most authentic Indian restaurants he's been to. We sat down for a quick bite, we didn't order much as it was getting late into the night. The staff was overly nice, each and every single one of them. They noticed we were desi ourselves and made our food "desi style", oh boy was it spicy! The chef and the customer sure likes a challenge. The menu has a lot to offer. Great spot for really well don Indian cuisine. Couldn't resist this restaurant. Just up the road from our hotel. Modern Indian restaurant-- No reservation but they managed to get us a table got 4. Our server was exceptional steering us in the right direction as not to order too much food. All the food was delicious with the correct amount of heat and spice as requested. After eating Irish food all week, we wanted something spicy and Nu Delhi was the right spot. Without reservations, we got a table for three on a Wednesday night around 8 pm without waiting. The place was quite large and it had a good mix of people. Ordered a pint of Cobra, aloo gobhi, chana masala, garlic naan, and ajwani jumbo king prawns. After the first bite, knew this place was the right choice - the king prawns had the right amount of spice, enough to make me sweat a bit and eat slowly. The naan with the masala was very good. The aloo gobhi, from the vegan menu, had a nice kick. Only thing to complain about is that they charged me for two mojitos even though we didn't order them. read more

Great find in Northern Ireland (Belfast). Super cute interior with outdoor and indoor spaces. We really enjoyed chatting up with the servers who gave us great suggestions. We ordered a bunch of appetisers including the tandoori platter, chicken poori and papad. For the entrees we were debating between the murgh mirchi ka Salan and butter chicken, but they suggested the former since my SO is from Delhi! Passing through Belfast and family was in the mood for Indian food. Just been a while since we had our favorite cuisines. Finding the restaurant was not hard but parking is challenging. Street only. Restaurant is on 2nd floor although there was a lift there which was closed during our visit. Once you pass the fancy entryway with the tuktuk, you then ascend the stairs, and it is setting you up for a real experience. Seating was quick for us on a Sunday evening. Ordering was awkward since our waitress tried several attempts at an upsell on rice of all things. Once we got the order entered things got a little better. Starter of spicy calamari was brought out quickly (I think it was eight pieces) and gone just as fast. This of course made everyone finish their water even quicker. More water was promised but took too long. We had to get the attention of another waiter who deeply apologized. The main courses were served by another waiter in grand style by naming each dish which we appreciated (even though we were familiar with the dishes.) It is worth noting you can choose your level of hotness on spicy dishes. Monkfish curry was especially good. Butter chicken also tasty. Spicy chicken is spicy as expected with some nice green peppers and onions. Chicken Biryani was something I would definitely order again. On the other hand the raita (yogurt) is not something I would order it was too sweet for my taste. This restaurant is more South Indian and fusion cuisine. Yes, this place is pricey so it's difficult to make this a regular stop and if you have more Punjabi tastes your palate might be better served by a different restaurant. I can't believe we found a legit Indian restaurant while traveling through Northern Ireland! We were so skeptical once we got there but boy they delivered! We wanted spicy food and the flavor was spot on ..service and drinks were excellent! My mom was with us and even she was pleasantly surprised, flavors took her back to her home town she said. We ordered dal makhani medium spicy, lamb chops from appetizers which were out of this world, Murgh chicken which my kids really loved and butter chicken. The tastiest food; the friendliest staff; a beautiful view; and an electric atmosphere. I am from the US, I'm a big fan of Indian food and this was one of the best I've had. I chose the banquet menu: popadoms (light, airy, fried chip served with mango chutney, mint chutney and spiced onions), royal house platter (chicken banjara, seekh kebab, onion bhaji, and aloo bonda - I would've been satisfied if the meal ended here, HONESTLY), lamb chops which were absolutely to die for, and garlic naan. When I say the lamb chops were tasty, I mean they were a flavor explosion. My best friend, who dislikes the gamey taste of lamb, associated the bite I gave him with a very tender, delicious steak. This was my first time coming here on a visit to Belfast and I found the food here to be amazing, much more healthy and flavorful compared to all those takeaway Indian places. It was proper authentic good quality Indian food. I had the beef salad starter and Chicken Tandoori grill, both of which tasted extremely good, by far the best Indian food I've ever had. The spices were perfect and the food was spicy, which was great. The staff and manager were very polite and friendly, service was reasonably good. The atmosphere was lovely and great for a romantic date or a family dinner, nice dimmed lights and candles. I'm rating this place poor despite the fact that one curry tasted ok and another good. My chief reasons for this two star rating are price, portion, thin nan bread and music played so loud it was difficult to have a conversation with my wife. So first things first. We were going to go to the nearby Red Panda and I wish we had. This Nu Delhi place - which although an Indian restaurant it's likely Bangladeshi folk - is on a first floor, so on entry at ground floor there's nothing to tell you if it's open or not. There are no menus displayed at ground floor level either. We took the lift one floor and when you egress the lift the main door to the restaurant is just at your left and toilets just at your right. The restaurant is impressively big, the seating comfy but the menus are well worn and tatty. As I've said, what was notable and unwelcome from arrival to departure was just how unpleasantly loud the music was. Nothing ambient about it. The lunch menu has separately priced starters and main courses. We opted for mains only. My wife had chicken tikka masala with pilau rice overpriced at just under £8. I opted for the lamb rogan josh with garlic nan overpriced at just under £9 as it's £1 extra for lamb. My dish had 10 pieces of lamb. I noted that one has to pay the same price for a vegetarian dish as chicken choices so if they can whack a quid on for lamb then why can't they knock a quid off for vegetarian? The tikka sauce was per the photo, sadly it was vivid artificial red, dyed food and it was so vividly red it seemed like a lot of dye was used in the dish. This dye comes in small plastic tubs. It's chemically extracted using petroleum, so take your choice from tartrazine (E102), sunset yellow (E110) and ponceau 4R (E124). I tried a teaspoonful of the sauce and it was sweet and ok. I reckoned that this sauce base is also the korma sauce just coloured with a different chemical dye. The pilau rice was just basmati maybe coloured with turmeric if we're lucky but perhaps just done using yellow food colour. I had lamb rogan josh. The lamb was tasty and the sauce delightful with that little spice kick. This alone was 4 star in taste. My nan bread was tasty but more like a crisp-bread than a nan bread and neither nan nor lamb were cooked in a tandoor. The nan portion is just mean and to make a decent portioned fluffy nan would cost pence more. Our bill was £16.90. I wouldn't return here, M&S factory made Indian mains are just as good and their chicken tikka masala has no red dye added unlike here and their dish has single cream added unlike here and has paprika added unlike here. I noted that had we been there in the evening a chemically coloured tikka masala with yellow rice would have cost us £15.45. Granted the portion size may be bigger but to me that's a rip off. Worse still if we were a party of six here it would be a whopping £17. Not a chance guys. Their menu says a discretionary 10% is added for groups of six - why? First it's a compulsory charge as it's automatically added so it should be taxable and secondly and more importantly it should be 10% discount for groups. Imagine buying a coffee in Starbucks to read if you bought 6 coffees you'd be charged 10% more. Just a con. Another con I spotted is their 3 course banquet. Apart from the many nickel & dime add on's depending on food choices, and the 10% hike if there's six or more, the main course and choice of rice or nan makes two of the three courses. So if you were in a party of six on the banquet plan and chose a king prawn main you'd be hit with a charge over £30. Now that's daylight robbery. read more

Nu-Delhi has it all! I have eaten in here quiet a few times and from the moment you sit down everything is top quality. You are never left sitting for long as the attentive staff are always on hand and ready to serve which is a big part of what makes Nu-Delhi so good. The drinks menu is extensive but my personal favourite is the mango daiquiri.....but be careful after the 5th one! Next is the food and this is really fresh and tasty Indian food. Pay close attention to the spice indicators as the madras is a hot little dish. If I can recommend one thing it would be the bang bang chicken starter. Nu-Delhi usual has some kind of entertainment on during the night and if you get a chance to go at the weekend it is perfect for big parties or a party for 2. Guaranteed a good night! read more

WOW!! I want to move to Belfast,haha!! Walking passed this place en route to my hotel,the smells alone made my mouth water. Since it's back to Glasgow tomorrow (I'm sad,I love Belfast!) It was time to pay Nu Delhi a visit. We were seated straight away and our waiter was so lovely!! He took time to chat to us and was so friendly. Ordered poppadoms to start which came with spicy onions, mango chutney and the best raita I've ever tasted. They were served in cute jars which was a lovely touch and there was plenty of each. Delicious! For my main,I ordered Chicken Jalfrezi, Pilau Rice and Peshwari Naan. Could not fault the meal at all! Curry was spicy and the Naan bread was so yummy. I tried so hard to finish it but I just couldn't! I was stuffed! Whether you live in Belfast or like me are just visiting, you NEED to try this place!! Great value for money and the nicest staff. This restaurant was located just across from our hotel and the smells lured us inside and we were not dissapointed! I was happy to see the chicken pakora was made with gram flour so happy for my gluten free tummy. The pakora was delicious ... really tender and juicy chicken with a gorgeous side salad. Main course was chicken korma which was nice but quite coconutty for me. Still didny dissapoint! Well, the food was amazing, 5 stars. We all enjoyed our meals and the flavors. It's innovative Indian fusion cuisine. The atmosphere is also trendy, classy and gives a nice feel. There were too many downfalls to give 5 stars, though. The service was horrendous. It felt like it was their first week running the show and nobody knew what was going on. There was no communication between waitstaff and we never had the same person bring us anything twice. Everyone seemed like a complete novice. People seem to rave about the cocktails at Nu Delhi, but they were pathetic. I know cocktails are not as common in the UK as they are over in North America (where I am from), so I suppose that could have something to do with my poor opinion of them. Some were tasty, but they were so small, I could finish them in one to two gulps. I tried a different cocktail each time a server came around and some of them were just not even made right. Then, there's the price. It's overpriced for what it is. Just flat-out overpriced. I expect to pay more in the UK for most things, but this was much more than other places we ate for the quality received. read more

I enjoyed dinning in Nu Delhi and think it's a good restaurant which I'd sum up as follows: ~ Free, no password required, wifi. ~ Super selection of dishes and as is often the case with Indian restaurants there are lots of vegetarian options on the menu. ~ Decor's quite nice but with a bit of a bland 'hotel style' feel. ~ We were served gorgeous complimentary Poppadoms and dips. ~ Starter of a vegetarian platter (aloo tikki, onion bhaji and samosa) was tasty if a little too spicy for my palate. ~ My main of spinach and potato Saag Aloo with mushroom rice was delicious. Unfortunately, although it tasted fresh and gorgeous, it didn't look very appealing, with the Saag Aloo looking dark, slimy and murky and mushroom rice an artificial bright orange. So top marks for taste but appearance let the food down. ~ Live acoustic music in the form of a solo female singer with a guitar. I have to say she was talented but a bit loud, irritating and whiny after a while. ~ Service was good and the waiting staff lovely and attentive. However they did make a couple of major errors i.e. we weren't asked if our food was ok, nor if we wanted to see a dessert menu after we finished our main courses (not necessarily a bad thing for my 'diet' haha!). There were desserts on the menu as I'd noticed them when I ordered my starter and main. In my experience not all Indian restaurants offer dessert so I would have liked to have tried the Kulfi, but no one came near us after we finished our mains and they'd cleared our plates away. In one way this was nice as we didn't feel rushed out after our meal and could relax while finishing our wine. Nonetheless it's a bit of a service blip for a restaurant. ~ We received complimentary shots of Sambuca after ordering our bill and just before leaving Nu Delhi which was a treat. read more

Was my first visit to Nu Delhi tonight. I had poppadoms and a vegetarian platter for starter which was a bit too greasy for my taste. My main was diced okra with sliced onions, spices and herbs which I asked to be made extra hot. It wasn't extra hot as in the sauce being extra hot, instead there were additional diced chilli added. I would have preferred the sauce to have been extra hot instead of just additional chillies being thrown in, however it was very fresh and beautiful. Service was excellent and I really liked the live music which was a nice touch. read more

I'm a tourist in Belfast for the weekend. Decided to give this place a try for no reason except the sort-of clever name. I ordered the veggie samosas, two vegetarian "side" dishes that the waiter recommended, some rice, and some garlic naan. Everything was delicious! The dhal and paneer "side" dishes were very flavorful and just the right level of spicy. The samosas were well seasoned and came with just the right amount of tamarind sauce. And the naan tasted very fresh-baked. Service was a little slow but I write that off as a consequence of my dining alone. The price was surprisingly affordable--all of the above for only £20. Personally I thought the restaurant was spot-on in terms of denoting how spicy each dish was, but some diners may find that the food is spicier than advertised. Overall I was very impressed and would recommend the restaurant for anyone. If I have reason to visit Belfast again I hope to return here. read more
