Mind you, the did have some nice beers on tap, but since this does happen to be Fitzroy, this is generally something that is to be expected. Used to be that they'd encourage a rugby crowd (they actually still do in a weird way) and that in turn changes the vibe of the place completely. The difference between the Derby and, say, the East however, is that they don't really seem to embrace anything much else. Every time I walk past the Derby I glance inside to see what seem to be the same two old blokes occupying the bar space. The main room is filled with really shitty decor and a half-baked recent renovation did little to raise the aesthetic of the place. Truth be told, this place is a shit hole, has always been a bit of a shit hole and probably will be a bit of a shit hole. If that's your bag, then great, it'll keep you and your friends from all the decent places in the neighbourhood.

They have $5 Pizza's and $2.50 Pots on a Thursday. The venue is really spacious, has a good sized dance floor, and decent outdoor area. They also run a gay and lesbian event here called 'Danceteria' and it's a lot of fun. It's a $10 cover fee, they play funky electro-indie-pop and have amazing drinks specials ($2.50 Shots). I can usually leave here pretty tipsy and not spend more than $40!

The other thing is the limited selection of beers on tap, but I have come to expect that from a lot of pubs like this one. Yeah, there isn't anything about this place that would really draw me back.

I did however discover something delicious recently - their $12.50 parma! They sell this on Monday & Tuesdays... I was driving past the other night and on a whim decided to get it. I did NOT regret it. The thing was HUGE... and CHEESY. I LOVE CHEESY THINGS. It had a nice 'honest' sauce (not too acidic)... the chips were ok - needed extra salt and pepper... and the salad lacked however the Parma was delicious. This was one of the first pubs I visited when I wandered down to Williamstown a few years back…read more Mind you, since it used to be the major harbour section of the city, there were quite a number of pubs squeezed into the area. These days the number has dropped significantly. However, there are still a few around, and this pub still has a nice old style charm about it. When I've been here, it was rather quiet, but that probably has more to do with the time we visited. However, the publican was quite friendly, even if the beers available were quite limited.

They have live music here, though the only time that I have been here late enough to see a gig it was country and western, not exactly my favourite style of music. They also have a pretty cool beer garden, part of it being under cover another part of it being out in the open. Okay, from the outside it looks like a pretty run down place, but once you step inside you find yourself in one of those cool inner-city pubs.

There were many rooms and some for private events. We ordered at the bar and our fish and chips and pint were delivered to the table. Lunch was good, portion was enough for the both of us. There was an interesting mix of people here some in suits & ties, some in their 20's & older men with very long beards.

It tasted sour as if it had been cooked a while ago and refried. I don't understand why they would still serve it. I am not sure if it is because I have a different ethnic background and so they have the chutzpah to serve it to me. I hope it is not. This place has been up and running for some time now and always pulls a decent crowd. By decent I…read moremean numbers wise... I am not too sure about the quality. Its primary function is to provide accommodation and usually plays house to a ream of seasonal backpackers wanting to stay in the heart of St Kilda and enjoy the nightlife on a shoestring. They also have access to an underground style bar which I am not sure many are aware of that also plays host to a mired of travelers and the likes. Sunday night can be quite popular with nights being help on their roof top bar with a balcony showcasing views of the iconic Palais Theatre, Port Philip Bay and Luna Park.
