If 6 stars was available, that's what it would give. This was a good distance from my home but I had heard good things about them. I needed a very high heel cut down on two brand new pair of shoes. I had tried somewhere else and was told it couldn't be done. I took my shoes in and was greeted by the nicest man and woman. They explained exactly what they could and could not do. Told me they were a bit behind and it would be a couple of weeks. I didn't mind. The man called me later that same day to tell me they were ready. I was nice to them, they were nice to me. After they did such a great job on his shoes, I decided to come here as well, even though it's a good 30 min drive from my house. This place is a hidden gem! My favorite pair of boots had a hard plastic heel that was chipping away. I decided to replace them before winter came and I would need to wear them everyday. I found this place and decided to give them a try. They seemed to be pretty busy but they took my contact info and gave me a number to call if I needed anything. The staff was very kind and welcoming. I was a bit nervous because my boots were expensive and if the heel didn't match the material of the boot, the look would be ruined. Two weeks later my boots are done and they look brand new! I absolutely love them and the support I have with them now is better than before. They were previously slippery but now they have the best grip. It only cost $15 for two new high quality heels. I was beyond surprised. I love this place and will be back! read more

My favorite boots started to fall apart -- literally -- the sole was falling off the right boot. Cindy took the boot on Saturday and called me on Monday to say it was ready and to bring the mate so she could polish it up, too. She did a great job of fixing it and is a pleasure to deal with. So I brought in another shoe that was doing the same thing. Repairing and cleaning up the boot cost $6.50 + tax. Same for the shoe. This is the only place in town I'll ever get my shoes worked on from now on, and I highly recommend Cindy and Nu Life Shoe Repair to one and all! read more

When I came back from work and saw my brand new Madewell bag had a gigantic black stain on it, I freaked out. Then I proceeded to make it worse by scrubbing it, completely scratching the area of the stain. I called a few shoe/leather repair places and visited some in the 'burbs but was told that there was no way it could be fixed. After being quoted a ridiculous price somewhere, I found Nu Life Shoe Repair on yelp and took my bag there. The owner made me feel much better and said he'd try to fix it in the next few days. I went and picked up my bag today 4 days after I dropped it off, and though the damaged part of the bag couldn't be completely fixed (I knew that going into it), the color matches perfectly. So I went here today based on the earlier reviews with two pairs of shoes. Let's just say this is the only place I ever bring my shoes from now on. Here's how it went down: One pair had a hole on the heel where the heel tape/covering had been nicked off, he didn't think he could repair them because his replacement stuff didn't really match but I told him to it anyway. Two thumbs up for his honesty, but I chose to get them fixed anyway. They should be ready on Friday. The second pair just needed a new tap - and he did on the spot and polished out the nicks on the heel. It took all of 3 minutes! For less than $10 my favorite Nine West booties look great. (Side note: I took this same pair of shoes to another place in the suburbs for tap replacement earlier this year. They took a week to do it, charged me $15, nearly ruined the covering on the heel in the process and now I'm having to replace them within 9 months anyway.) So happy! read more

Customer service and great value are what come to mind when I think of Nu Life Shoe Repair. Every time I bring in my shoes the man who owns this shop is so pleasant to me. They don't really know me there (I don't visit THAT much), but the warm nature of each person that works at this shop makes me feel like an old friend. I really only come to get my heels redone so I can't speak about other types of services, but the heel replacement is always well done. Even better, the price is pretty reasonable. The turn around is generally pretty fast too! The last time I was in there the owner asked me to wait for 5 minutes and he would have me on my way with new heels! A place that makes me smile and fixes my shoes quickly for a reasonable price deserves 5 stars! read more

After calming down and picking up my shoes--albeit 5 weeks later-- I can say they are solidly three stars. The prices are great, the craftsmanship is above average, and they greet you warmly on arrival. But that is where the customer service takes a sharp turn--see previous post. All in all. I don't recommend giving them large or especially complicated orders if you need your shoes back for an event within two months. This place is awful don't ever go here!!!! I don't like slagging off local businesses. I prefer them to chain stores and like to see quality mom and pop places thrive. I would pay extra even to support them. NOT this one! I have a friend from the east coast who has been here for two months. She broke the heel on a favorite pair of shoes. She gave up on them but to surprise her I brought them here to get fixed. That was three weeks ago. Each week I have been told to come back next week. Now she is leaving and the shoes are still not done and they don't even have them. It seems for some reason they have been sent out to someone else. Recommended by my tailor at James Davis, I ran over here and dropped my shoes off. The guys were very nice, very thorough, and very inexpensive.
