My partner loves whiskey so when I saw this place while planning for our trip to Corpus Christi, I knew we had to check it out. We arrived after having had dinner and despite it being busy (it was a Friday night), we were seated quickly. Its got an old-timey vibe which is enhanced by the decor they use and the fact they were playing a black and white film on the projector. The bar area itself is gorgeous and displays what looks like hundreds of bottles of whiskey. We tried their sazarac and the Anastasia Grey. While I love anything earl grey, I wasnt the biggest fan of the charcoal element but thats a personal preference. First time there a week ago on a Wednesday. I arrived right at 4pm, when does open. First customer. I advised the gentleman there, with a beard, the same one behind the bar posing on their website, and said: I am meeting 3 friends here shortly, his reply was: "we have some reservations, so you can only seat in one of our middle sections with couches and/or leather chairs "....I said okay. So I sat at the very last area with a loveseat, and 2 chairs with a table in between. We spent at least 3 hrs there. Those alleged "reservations" never showed up. This man does not know me, or knows how much we are spending there, which was a lot. Bottles of wine, several appetizer dishes, cocktails, etc. But the fact that he did not allow us to sit at a table was pretty scrappy, just assumed we would be there for an hour. Our server, Mia was great. The food was great. The happy hour prices not so much. They offer 20% off wine bottles for hh. But when one of the white wines they offer at 20% off, you can get at heb for $12 and they sell for $48, that is a deal breaker, even with the 20%. If they would offer half off...that would be a real hh. The place is SUPER dark. You need your cellphone flashlight to see menu. I have also emailed this business twice, once before my one time visit, to ask about the wine specials for hh, and one time after my visit inquiring about their appetizers. They never replied. I have a new go-to spot when Im visiting Corpus and it's Neuces Whiskey Library! I stopped in recently thanks to the recommendation of a local friend that knows I'm a whiskey lover. From the moment I walked in I fell in love with this space. From the dim lighting, to the elegant ambiance, to the cozy booth, and woodpaneled bar - I was immediately obsessed. Everything I tried here was absolutely delicious both from the food menu and the drink menu. I did a tasting flight (highly recommend) and sampled a few house cocktails. Neither approach will do you wrong and I recommend doing both if you have the time. For food we went with the : -sliders -charcuterie board - gnocchi -truffle fries And you can't go wrong with any of these. Made a reservation same day and was running behind, of course. Called to push by 15 and there were no issues. Upon arrival got seated at the bar as reserved and the place wasn't too busy. A bit disappointed as there was no greeting from the bartender, however the couple that arrived after me was greeted with the question of this being their first time and they provided their name. Seeing this was any first time, this courtesy intro would have been appreciated. Ordered the peniccillin which was decent. I was warned it's a very peaty drink (not sure I said that right) as it has The Peat Monster in it. While the taste was strong, not overwhelming and you can taste the smokiness. Got the aranciette and they were hot on the outside and just barely warm inside. Taste was good though. Second drink was an old fashion made with Crown Peach and just as tasty as I remember. read more

The hubby and I love whiskey and this gem did not disappoint. I loved the vintage theme and the black and white movie playing in silent on the screen. The bartenders were very knowledgeable in the liquors they have there and the smoked old fashion is top tier! First, the good...and it's mostly good. Exceptional selection of spirits, with a focus on bourbon, of course. A bartender, Joe, who looks and acts the part of a true imbibulation creation master (made that word up and it sounds perfect). The library vibe is super smooth and it's enhanced by the dark wood and low lighting. Tasty nibs served quickly by a butcher-apron clad blonde who screams 40's pinup. All this in a corner slot of a nondescript strip center located in a town not known for embracing the concept. Now, the only bad, and it's a pet peeve of mine. When I order a cocktail, I expect the price to be the price of the spirit on the menu. I know I'm not ordering it neat but that shouldn't matter. At the very least, TELL me there's an upcharge. In this case, at NWL, I was charged an additional $4 per drink. Discovered this upon reviewing the bill. If I order a pina colada, which takes longer to make than an Old Fashioned, there's no upcharge. The fact that it was surreptitiously added to my bill is tawdry and reeks of low class. Just stop. Add a buck or two to the spirit price and leave it at that. Will I be back? Probably. Will I say something before ordering? Almost certainly. I've been to much higher end establishments across the country that didn't do this. If NWL wants to be regarded as serious, act the part, don't nickel and dime your patrons. It's a beautiful space with lovely seating and an impressive bourbon selection. The menu looks incredible too - we stopped for drinks prior to meeting friends elsewhere for dinner so we just ordered an appetizer- the fondue - which was outstanding. This is not a restaurant. Heads up, if that's what you thought. We came for dinner, silly us. The classic cocktails were great, all of their specialty cocktails (we tried 4 different ones) were super sweet (which we all hate, but maybe that's your thing). The atmosphere is amazing, I could hang here for hours. Our table was broken and they clearly knew that. The top sits on a hinge, and the top spins easily anytime someone touches it. I don't know why they don't just glue or weld that thing or something. We ordered apps which were all great. I got the filet (one of three entrees). I never send things back, but I sent this back. I ordered it medium-rare. It came so well done there wasn't even a hint of pink. It was cooked right the second time, but they covered it in a very rich mushroom gravy sauce that really ruined the balance. So in recap, great service and ambiance. Come for classic cocktails, stay away from the specialty ones and don't even pretend that this place was meant to eat at. read more

The ambiance in this place is fantastic, dark like a speakeasy with comfy leather chairs to sink into. Quiet and intimate even when crowded. In spite of what was said in another review, it is indeed a restaurant, it just has a limited list of 4 entrees (chicken, fish, beef, and pasta) each of which is absolutely delicious. There's a bunch of appetizers and you could easily make a meal out of those too. While I haven't tried them all yet, I haven't found one I didn't like. Don't miss the arencinette! So good! If you like the food next door at Bellinos, you'll love the NWL. Let's not forget the whiskey...there's something here for everyone and the majority of the pages in the menu are devoted to whiskey (and other liquors) and cocktails.
