I purchased a Living Social for 1 hour to photograph my two dogs and while I understand that photographing animals can't be easy I wasn't pleased with the overall experience. Out of the 30 photos I was given the opportunity to choose from, I found only 5 I really liked. When I asked what happened to some of the others (my dog running) I wasn't given any response at all. I was told I could order a metal print or receive a $50 gift certificate to order prints online I told Kira which photos I wanted and haven't heard back from her (that was October 19). Kira is unresponsive and I haven't had a good experience. Maybe I wasn't treated the same as everyone else b/c they paid full price, I don't know. What I do know is that I wouldn't recommend her to anyone and feel that as a beginning photographer, I could have taken photos that were just as good. Totally disappointed. read more

If I could give this photography BUSINESS a zero star rating I would. There is absolutely NO customer service. I agreed to let Kira take pictures of my dog for her Project Dog book and drove my dog to the site she selected in San Francisco. After an hour, I was supposed to receive the pictures from the photo shoot in return for her use of my dog's photos for the book. This photo shoot took place in May 2011. I have not received ANY photos from the photographer. Secondly, in August 2011 I paid $50 for her Kickstarter campaign for this Project Dog book. For this money, I was to receive one of the Project Dog books. It is now April 2012 and I have not yet received a book. I am also apparently not important enough to have the photographer return my phone calls or emails. I am incredibly disappointed with the service. That being said, the one blooper I was able to pull off of the facebook page for Nuena photography was cute. It's good that it was because it is the only one I have received in almost a year. She seems to have time to take vacations to Hawaii (July 2011) and take road trips across the country for other projects, but does not have time to make good on her word once she has what she needs or to return communications from someone who has now used their personal time and money to help her profit. I am incredibly disappointed. I almost forgot to mention that she volunteered to take some photos at a non-profit event in 2011. Yes, she volunteered but I was on the committee and as far as I know, she never turned over any of the pictures she took to anyone on the committee for future non-profit use. Seems counterproductive to volunteering for an organization to not help them out at all from your time spent there. It amounts more to not having to pay for the vendor price for a table and yet still getting some free exposure and advertising time. For shame. read more

The process of working with Kira has been incredibly difficult, to say the least. I'm not even sure why she took my project because what I have gathered during this painful experience is that either she didn't care about me, her customer, or she doesn't care about her product. And in the end, I paid for nothing I can use. I hired Kira to shoot an interior retail space that I designed, my first as a professional interior designer. A friend had recommended her and so I reached out to her letting her know I needed a photographer not for dogs, but for an interior space. She said she could do it and sent over some shots she had done in the past, which now looking at them I am completely dumbfounded at the difference in quality. I am a photographer myself but wanted a professional to shoot my space so I wouldn't have to worry about anything. I don't even know where to start. Kira is the most unresponsive business owner I have ever come across. I own my own business so it's been incredibly frustrating working with Kira. In order to get her to respond to one email after waiting two weeks, I would have to call, text and send a second email. This happened three times during this project. Kira had asked me to pay her the full amount on the day of the shoot. I know, I should have known better, but since a friend referred her, I trusted that she would do a good job. I could not have been more wrong. She delivered two sets of photos in the end. The first set was completely unusable as she had not even bothered to retouch them. In one of the shots, there was a dark black mark about two inches long and a quarter of an inch thick. Like if you used a black brush in photoshop and swiped it by accident. She delivered a FINAL photo with this. I think I stared at the photo for a minute before even knowing how to react. The photos are grainy, and the colors are not consisted across the board. The lights in the shots are blown out and have a slight halo around them. The black metal material of the lights are a dark gray, so not true to life. The photos are unusable. The second set she delivered, which I waited almost two months for are the exact same quality of the first set. I let her know that the first set was unusable with feedback as to why and that she could either refund me a portion of my money and send me the RAW files so I could retouch them myself, or she should take my feedback and apply them to the last set of photos. She said would retouch them but completely disregarded my feedback and delivered another unusable set with all of the exact same mistakes. It's like she didn't even bother to retouch them. I think maybe she doesn't know how to use photoshop?? Otherwise, I'm just so confused by this "professional" photographer. Her quality of work is not at the level of professionalism that I had hoped for and this was really disappointing to me. Being a photographer myself, I'm a little confused by her product. I trusted her with my first professional interior project and her level of experience is not what is advertised on her website. Now I need to go and retouch all the photos myself. The one thing I was happy about was that I asked for the RAW files. I'm not really sure where my money went and as a customer, this is completely unacceptable. If you're looking to be ignored and work with a business owner who does not care about their product or her customer, Kira is the photographer for you. Good luck! read more

OMG-- I cannot say enough great things about my experience working with Nuena/Kira. I never leave reviews, but literally just got on to write about how amazing my experiences have been with her. I first met Kira after she photographed my dog and the photos were just INCREDIBLE. I e-mailed her about a billion times about certain files, etc. I have since followed her on her various social media sites and have seen her amazing work grow, get more recognition, etc. The coolest part has been seeing Kira's dedication to various rescues in the Bay Area (she takes photos for Berkeley Humane, SF SPCA, Muttville, etc.) grow along with her success. There aren't many people you can say that about. (Actually maybe just her.) I read the below posts about her Project Dog books and also have spoken to Kira during the book debacle. Her publisher is simply not fulfilling her order due to some fixes in the book and its something that is like 110% out of her control. I purchased a book at an event and it is NOT a scam. Its a gorgeous book that my friends and family just cannot stop flipping through whenever they are over. I am sure she will solve the issue so people who are waiting on books get them soon. Anyway, the reason I thought to write this post was a ridiculously sweet/kind experience I had with Kira the other day. I am SO in love with her photography and have to get some headshots for business. I had like a 2 days window when I was in town and available so contacted Kira. (Even though I knew she would be booked on such short notice, which she was.) So I e-mail her and tell her the situation and rather than telling me that I was screwed (like ALL other photographers of her calibur would) she so kindly agreed to do my shoot after her FULL day of shooting so I could get them done in time. Its seriously insane to find someone so ridiculously talented that is such a great person and gives back so much. I just had to get online to share. I wish I could give her like 40985 stars. Do yourself a favor and book a session with her. You will swoon over your photos for LIFE. And so will everyone who sees them. read more

I have known Kira for years now and always knew about her creative side....but didn't fully grasp how talented she is until I checked out her Nuena website a few years ago. I was blown away that what she talked about so casually was beyond impressive to me. I hired Kira as my wedding photographer in fall of 2008. The pictures are breathtaking - she shot all the posed and candid moments that truly captured the essence of my wedding, family and friends. She has a wonderful eye for the subtle details. Her calming presence was a breath of fresh air as I launched myself head first into bridezilla mode, and she continued to work hard allllll day long. We were relying on this company to capture images for website that was schedule to being a campaign to raise money for the training and donation of service dog to veterans. They over promised and did not deliver on anything, we also ate about $150 in shipping/apparel we sent to be in the shots. Very disappointing, not only for us, but the charity we partnered with. Kira photographed our dogs and their first litter a few years ago. Everyone thought we was insane for hiring a photographer to take their pictures, but our dogs are our kids, and we suck at taking pictures. Kira had an awesome special at the time, so I figured what the heck? Let's do it. It was a super hot day. The dogs were cranky and exhausted. There were EIGHT dogs total running every which way. She was incredibly great to work with, she worked within our (very small) budget and was so accommodating.
