Today was our first time at Spago! We were looking for a new groomer since I noticed how terrified she was shaking to go to the last place. Right when we walked in, the little store front felt very spacious and cozy. I looked to the back, I noticed there was a lot of space for the dogs. I LOVED that my dog was NOT caged up until it was her time to be groomed. And I picked her up right when she was done. Miki was very kind and patient. I was VERY happy to have found SpaGo Dog! The owner, I think her name is Miki? cut my dog's hair that was butchered by my daughter who didn't want to spend the money to take it to a groomer. I don't blame her.. who wants to spend 4x the amount for a hair cut on your dog when you spend $22 to cut your own hair? But cutting a dog's hair is probably more difficult that cutting a cooperative human's hair. We got our dog back in 40 minutes.. was quite fast, but the dog is happier for a shorter experience for sure, and as long as everything gets done, I'm fine with not having the dog go through an hour or even 1.5 hr stress. I really appreciate that they take off $25 if you bathe the dog before bringing him in for a cut. They. honored my request to not put any fragrances or conditioners or a hairdryer on him unless it helped with cutting his hair. It cost $95 total. That really helps since my daughter is on a tight budget living in a tiny studio and spending 50% of her salary on rent. How many 25 year olds can spend money on grooming their dogs? I don't blame her for leaving our cute dog looking motley. But now, I look forward to seeing our dog look beautiful as his hair grows out! read more

Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend this service. Normally, they're pretty fast with my small dog, finishing her within an hour. Today I went, and after an hour and 15 minutes, the groomer, who was some new person I didn't know, was not even there and then he came in five minutes later with a cup of coffee, so he clearly took a break without finishing her cut. He said he would finish up my dog in 15 minutes, which I think means he did a pretty fast job. It's also frustrating that you don't get to talk directly to the groomer when you drop off your dog. read more

Wanted to like this place, however they unfortunately have false advertising and dishonest business practices :( I booked a medium breed appt for my Border Collie, who is within 40lbs (which is listed as "medium" on their website), however I was charged for a large breed (an extra $40) afterward without my consent/being notified in advance. When I asked the groomer about it, he simply said that it took "the effort" of a large dog breed and did not honor their website's information regarding size. He also said there was no way for them to confirm the size, even though I offered to show them vet records with his weight. I have had my rescue pup for two years and that whole time I never thought I could even try to go to a pet groomer with her. She is super skiddish with all new people including my family, is not a fan of water, acts fearful with the sound of running water specifically, and hates her nails/paws touched. But, it came to another time to get her nails clipped and this time I decided to be brave and just try the whole grooming thing. I was SO scared that they would be upset that I brought her in but they were amazing!!! First off the guy I dealt with (which I'm kicking myself for not getting or remembering his name to give him his proper shout out) was absolutely amazing!!! He was the sweetest, friendliest and most positive person ever! I gave him all my warnings and he received everything and was so ridiculously gentle with my pup. When I picked her up he was so open about the experience and continued to be so kind and positive. But ultimately they made it through with her and she actually didn't freak out!! Will update when I get his name in particular because he deserves soooooo much shine. But the conclusion for me is that I can actually take my pup to a groomer and will continue to with SpaGo after this lovely eye-opening experience!! read more

My dog had an unfortunate experience with a different groomer in Oakland and can be sensitive as a result. Miki and her staff were great with him. Prices are reasonable for the bay and the store is very clean. I don't use doggie daycare but I noticed that area was clean as well and the dogs seemed to be having a good time. They were also able to take card, Venmo, PayPal, or Apple Pay which is convenient. read more

I really love this grooming place. My dog is a bit older (just a couple months shy of 18 years), so it's really important for me that he doesn't have to spend all day waiting around to get groomed. The groomers here are really compassionate and totally understanding of my little senior. His appointment takes no more than 45 minutes so I can stay around the area to run errands while I wait for him. The other great aspect is the dogs can run around a giant room and pick beds to rest in if they get tired. It's just such a comfort to know he's not cooped in a crate waiting. As soon as I drop him off, he is taken to back for his appt to start. No waiting which means no added stress! read more

PLEASE do not take your dog here. This was our first visit here - my dog has a hack job of a cut and she is full of razor burn. There is no way a guard was used to cut of baby. She is traumatized. When we walked in to pick her up, the lady can be heard yelling at a dog, when I scooted closer to the bookcase, IT WAS MY DOG! She is a hair dog, she gets matted and she was matted but not to warrant the treatment she received and the horrible cut she received. We take her to Petsmart (of all places), same level of matt and we have NEVER had a problem, I just didn't feel like their wait time, so I figured I'd pay a little more money (a lot more money, more than I booked for - not worth it) and have no wait - it is my fault my baby is in pain, I can't imagine how she felt because we have never put her in harms way! I was so scared for her that I ran her to Banfield Vet after and they said that the amount of burn that she had there was no way a professional groomer cut our dog - if she was fidgeting they shouldn't have proceeded. This place is money hungry and they are not dog people. Also, not that it matters at this point, there is no way she was bathed in 45 minutes. Their google page is misleading as it pictures a van - so I assumed they were coming to my home (I had provided my address, which made it even more confusing) When I attempted to figure out why no one had arrived, they were very unresponsive and not helpful. Miki is amazing with my wiggle-worm of a Yorkie mix and actually got his nails clipped! My husband and I, two vet offices and another groomer couldn't achieve this feat! She even tried to show me how to hold him to do it myself (I'm still working on this). She gave him exactly the cut we needed for the start of foxtail season. She was great at steering me in the right direction with how short we should go - I thought I wanted shorter but she was right! My dog passed away recently and I can't believe I never wrote Nikki a review for all the work she put into Marco's grooming while he was alive. You see, Marco was a groomer's nightmare. He hated the bath, he hated scissors and he hated the sounds of the automatic razor. But every time he was given back to me he looked so handsome and the haircuts took less than an hour which astounded me every time. Nikki is incredibly sweet. The first time she groomed Marco was 2012 out of the Spago van and we remained faithful to Spago at their brick and mortar location until 2018 when Marco passed away. What a Wonderful place to bring your dog for a cut and wash. The owner is so nice and my dog was so happy when he left.! The place is super clean and organized. So far I went to 3 different groomers and this by far was the best! I recommend Spago for your dog for grooming and for Day Care! Miki Has taken care of Biscuit for at least 2 years now and she treats him like one of her own. I have added another rescue Yorkie named Chloe. She is 6 like Biscuit. She came from Tracy where she was left in the yard all day by herself in 100 degree heat and then put into the garage at night. She has turned into my little princess and is happy as a lark! The only reason Spago is getting two stars instead of one is because they treated my dog well, and ultimately that's what is most important. As far as the grooming goes, we had a poor experience. We were referred to Spago by a friend and were excited to try a new place so close to home. We had an appointment with Miki and at first we were impressed with the pre-appointment communications, and the hand-off, but things went down from there. At pickup, it felt like things weren't quite right, but I couldn't identify it to ask the groomer to touch up. But, when I got home, my husband quickly pointed out that the hair around the face was longer than we asked for, and noted overall that it didn't look the smoothest. Focusing on just the face, I texted Miki to ask about coming back for a touch up. No response over two days, and a followup text (she communicated via text before and during the appointment for reference). I called both the groomer and the main phone number, left messages and again, no response. We finally stopped by, and the groomer was willing to touch-up the face, which made things better. She did not acknowledge the lack of response to the multiple messages. Fast forward a week, I take our dog to the vet and during the check-up, the doctor points out that the hair between the pads was not trimmed and is at risk for matting. I told him that we went to a new place and weren't thrilled with the grooming. The doctor went on to say that he thought we might have attempted the grooming at home because it was choppy. That sealed the deal, not going back to Spago and do not recommend. read more

Seems like a great idea, the groomer comes to your home at your convenience. Mikki was very friendly and genuinely great handling my small dog. I brought my own products, and was allowed to stay in the van and watch. We went over the specific services I wanted, I did not want or need a package of services. I specifically said "no cutting of the hair" (Papillons do not need trimming.) Before I know it, while trimming his nails, she was cutting the hair on his feet. I asked for all nails to be trimmed, I have personally trimmed all nails once a month, this is standard recommended good practice because it keeps the nail quick from growing longer. She did not trim all nails, saying some were OK as is. I did not request an anal expression, but she did it anyway and said "nothing came out". The washing and conditioning was satisfactory; however I was shocked to witness the use of a shop vac (in reverse) to blow dry the dog. It is so loud that Mikki wears ear plugs! My dog was freaking out over the extremely loud noise and the force of the blower as the air hose was placed practically right on his body. It was torture. Maybe other dogs can tolerate the shop vac blow dry, but my small dog cannot and my dog is by no means a sensitive or skittish dog. I have used a regular hair dryer (on low/air-only, at a comfortable distance) on him for years, so he is used to the drying process. (I added a photo showing the shop vac, the hose next to dog's skin, and the groomer wearing ear protection because it is extremely loud. The dog then freaks out as the blowing force increases.) While I really wanted to like this service and be a regular customer, SpaGo Dog is not for me or my dog. read more

I took my dog, Rocky, to SpaGo Dog for their Wellness grooming package, which includes "ear cleaning, paws trimming, nail clipping and sanitary trim" and a bath that was supposed to include an anal gland expression. I tipped 20% on the tab before I picked him up. When he got home, not all of his nails had been clipped and specifically, one of his dewclaws was still digging into the pad of his paw. And he is scooting his butt on the ground, a sign that he still needs an anal gland expression. I've emailed and called SpaGo and no response. The only reason I paid to have him groomed was to get his anal expression done and his dewclaws clipped. So, I paid for an expensive bath and didn't get the services that he needed. read more

Miki is absolutely amazing. She knows our dogs by name, and treats them as if they were her own. She schedules them for an hour each, and doesn't use cages. She brushes their teeth, cleans their anal glands, and gives a perfect cut every time. Where most groomers would use a cage with a blow dryer hook up, she does this by hand. Our Westie hates getting his nails cut, and most groomers have refused to do this in the past, telling us to take him to the vet for it. Miki has no problem whatsoever, which says something about her approach. She told us she will massage his paw until he trusts her, and distract him with scratches so he doesn't hear the clipper. The front of the store is an adorable boutique with toys, treats, collars/harnesses, and clothes. She also hosts dogs for daycare. read more

This was my first time using SpaGo after parting ways with my previous groomer. I went to the website to find out a little more about the services they offer and was very pleased that they allowed you to book online. I went ahead and booked them for today and in fact, she had just gotten done grooming my Maltese/Shih Tzu mix, Benji. Miki not only came up to my complex on time but was almost half and hour early to my pleasant surprise. She was very friendly and seemed to understand the cut I want for my dog. After about an hour and half or so brought him back up to me in a cute Teddy Bear cut, smelling good and wagging his little tail. Once she left, I had to call her up as I had wanted the tail cut slightly more and to fix a bit of an uneven hair around the face, and was surprised that within 10min of my call she was back and more than happy to fix it. Overall, Miki is a really wonderful and knowledgeable person (she understands the importance of high quality pet food and even know about Orijen, which is what we feed our dog.) not many people actually are aware of these holistic and human grade brands which makes her exceptional in this case. Even better was the 10% off a first customer price, in which case I went ahead and added the subtracted amount back into her tip. If you're like me and need convenience as well as flexibility and wont settle for anything but the best of care for your pet, then I highly recommend giving SpaGo a chance! The prices are very reasonable and the doggy Hydro Bath which is included is a perfect way to reward your best friend for always be by your side! :) read more

I've been trying out several local groomers recently in hopes of finding my new go-to for my pup, and SpaGo has easily won all my future business! First off, the grooming only took an hour; at other places, he's had to be there the entire day. My dog has some anxiety and loses his **** in crates, so I love that the dogs are in and out and not locked up for hours. I don't think he'll ever legit enjoy a trip to the groomers, but he was the least nervous here of anywhere he's been -- that's a victory for me! Miki is the first groomer of my 6-month old Westie pup, Link, and I honestly loved her cut. She called me around the time I had scheduled, saying she was outside my apartment. We walked to the SpaGo van whilst talking about Link and about the cut I had in mind for him. I honestly had no real idea about how I wanted him to look - only that I wanted his hair shorter everywhere except his face. Miki got the idea and left with Link. 30-40 minutes later I got another call and came out to see my freshly groomed little pup scampering around happily. He didn't seem at all scared, even though this had been his first grooming. Link also got a complimentary teeth cleaning (deal of the month) which he greatly needed haha.
