This is a positive review for Heather.  She was very knowledgeable and helpful. She also showed good character. I had reached out to Heather seeking advice on how to help a stray cat "Miss Kitty".  Miss Kitty comes around 2x a day for food in my backyard. She is a very pretty kitty with medium length black hair who seems to have some matting issues. Miss Kitty is very skittish but I have been slowly building trust with her these past few weeks. So can now pet her. Given she has been outdoors she is not used to being brushed and gets scared when she sees it. I contacted Heather seeking advice for how to best help the cat with her coat. Heather very generously spent 30+ mins talking with me.  We covered all sorts of topics. Including ways to desensitize the cat to brushing, which sort of brush/comb to use, and how to make sure it's also paired with a positive reward (like a treat). HEather also explained that I should first get her used to me brushing/combing her where there are no tangles, just so that cat can get used to the experience. Then as I build comfort with cat, gradually work my way over to the tangles to gently work on them.   She also gave her take suggesting that maybe this was winter undercoat growing out with some tangles. Versus extreme matting that was pulling the skin and causing pain to the cat. Which was a huge relief in itself! We also spoke about the pros/cons of shaving her. She explained it would definitely give her a fresh start for the coat. However, Heather voiced that if it was done now (April) she worried the cat would get cold outside.  So suggested if it was done, either to wait until warmer months or until the cat maybe was more socialized and willing to live indoors afterwards. We also spoke about if eventually the cat was shaved that would also be a good time to bathe her, which type of soap to use, etc. We also spoke about if I did ever get her socialized to that point, how we could make any future appt less stressful for the cat. During the conversation Heather also spoke with me about not rushing things, given strays have a lot of trust issues. So Heather understood how fragile the budding bond is with this cat. (She mentioned her mother in law did feral cat rescue, so was familiar with how to work with these types of cats who generally are not used to human interactions.) If Heather was as different type of person and greedy - she would have just wanted me to bring the cat in for an appt immediately or tried to sell me a bunch of products.  But she really seemed to care about the cat's well being which I really appreciated.  There was zero attempt to sell me on anything which these days is very rare. Heather also declined my offer to pay her for the phone consultation, saying she was happy just to help. Again very rare! If you want someone who is a knowledgeable and experienced groomer, genuinely cares about the animal's well being, and is a wonderful human being to boot - you will be in good hands with Heather. read more

My dog has been a client of Heather's for about 10 years. All around I was very happy with her talent. Although she kept shaving off my pups warts regularly. Without giving me a real good reason, she would not reschedule Fritz for his next grooming session. The reason was that she is relocating to New York. But I still see her very active on her page. My feelings were hurt, and dismissed. Sorry Heather, you are a great groomer, but when it comes to customer service. Excellent quality care for my long-haired cat, Sherlock, who had never been professionally groomed before and was developing some mats in her fur that I couldn't handle on my own. Heather spent time talking on the phone with me to understand my cat's needs and explaining her approach. I was confident that she would make grooming decisions that prioritized my cat's wellbeing. During the appointment Heather kept me informed of her progress and decisions (for example, we'd talked about Sherlock maybe having a lion cut but it became clear in the session that this wasn't going to be something the cat would readily accept!). Heather was also very clear about the cost throughout the process. Sherlock came home de-matted and clean. I'd give 10 stars if I could. Heather is the most phenomenal groomer ever! I have an incredibly furry 8 year old collie, Sophie, who hates water, hates having her feet touched, and generally despises being brushed. Before we met Heather, Sophie's grooming appointments were all day affairs that left her, me, and the groomer pretty stressed out! It was so bad that our previous groomer insisted that Sophie be on valium and wear a muzzle. When I'd pick her up from the appointments, my dog was so dazed from the stress that she'd hardly recognize me. I truly dreaded grooming appointments. Heather changed all of that. She just "gets" dogs and understands how to work with them. Plus her cage-free setup really seems to put dogs at ease. Sophie actually looked happy and relaxed after her appointments. And they only took an hour and a half! What a world of difference! I cannot begin to tell you what a relief it was to *finally* have a grooming experience that didn't make me feel like a bad dog mom. Sadly, we've since moved out of California... honest to God, one of the worst parts of leaving was losing Heather as our groomer. It is ridiculously difficult to find a pet groomer that can handle my little pug's nail trimming. I read another review about a difficult pug, so I thought I'd give Heather a try. Heather was very personable, sweet with Theo, and did the job well. I've gone to other groomers who have clipped Theo's nails and given him back to me with his nails bleeding (I know, gross). Heather filled Theo's nails down with no extra charge. He seemed happy and unphased, which is really wonderful given how extremely sensitive my little guy is. Best experience from the start to finish. We have two miniature poodle mixes, a two year old boy and 11 months old girl. We where nervous to bring them to a groomer the first time, but Heather was so nice and our dogs immediatly loved the place and started palying and enjoying the whole process. Amazing! Another great thing is, we can drop them off and pick up after the two hours, with a sporty short cut which works best for their daily one hour Marina wilderness romp. They both looked so cute and happy when we picked them up, we can't wait to bring them back...the best decision we made for all of us, as I have been home trimming our boy poodle till now.
