the interior of a mexican restaurant

My co workers and I went here a bit after 9 on a weeknight (they close at 9:30). We still got good service, but I felt a little uncomfortable with them stacking chairs and wiping down nearby tables as we dined. I ordered Arroz con Pollo, which is grilled chicken over rice with cheese. Good portion, and I liked the flavor. I thought the lighting of the dining area was odd, with multi colored lighting around the top of the walls that changed olften. I had to angle thei menu towards a beer sign in the window to have enough light to read it. Would be interesting to be there when it isn't almost closing time and see if the experience is a little nicer.

Nueva Villa is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. It's not fine dining or fancy Mexican cuisine, but it'll never let you down and is consistently popular with locals after anything from a softball game to a graduation. They expanded in the last few years, so you'll usually have no trouble getting a table--but call ahead if you have a big party coming. The cheese dip is an absolute must. As far as entrees go, you can't go wrong. The arroz con pollo, chicken fajitas, and flautas are some of my favorites. My friends also speak highly of the chicken enchilada soup and taco salad. You won't miss much if you skip on dessert, but if there's a birthday in your group, tell your waiter--they'll sing, bring out the birthday sombrero, and sometimes, pie the birthday person with some whipped cream!

It's grown from our favorite Mexican place in Hartsville, to our only. In the past few months, I have noticed more attentiveness from the waiters and waitresses. Though it was never 'bad' before, sometimes (not often) we had to wait longer than comfortable to find our server and ask for more chips or beverage or whatever. Lately, though, I notice they're actively coming to check on us, even when we have everything we need. Now, to the food. The choices are many and varied; seafood, beef, chicken, pork (and also vegetarian if memory is serving). My favorite go-to dishes are Chicken Fajita Quesadillas and Burritos Deluxe. The portion sizes are satisfying - which should go without saying - BUT I've been to other places lately in which the portions are shrinking. Everything I have ever tried there has been tasty. The restaurant is cozy-quaint, even if the foyer is kinda jammed in close to the bathroom hall and the kitchen, but you're seated so quickly that it hardly matters. And the staff is always so friendly. [Except for one weird time in which a waitress didn't seem to like serving us. She rolled her eyes on our asking for more salsa, and caught herself, but I noticed! And it was at that time she brought us a regular bowl out with filled-to-the-brim salsa which she probably should have started with if she didn't like being bothered to, you know, SERVE. It was only three of us, not like a party of 5, even! 90% of that salsa would be going to the garbage because she hit our refill request at the 3rd time we'd request more.] Anyway. This is a great place overall, worthy of 5 stars! [I hope that waitress no longer works there - the more I think of it. At the time, I remember thinking we might want to move tables so we didn't have to keep interrupting her. I'm pretty sure dining-in patrons shouldn't have to feel that way toward their servers when their requests are minimal.] But again I say, SO great, that if they hire a server who doesn't like serving, hopefully (it's not your first time visiting AND hopefully) you can turn it into a cartoon in your memory and recognize, hopefully, that even odd or strange experiences can happen at the best of places.

Awesome place to eat, it's my secret little hole in the wall. Best place in Hartsville to get Mexican food. The service is excellent, and the food is superb. They're currently under construction so that they will have more seats.

Their menu is HUGE, with so many different options, and they were very patient helping us navigate through it and figure out what we were craving. They genuinely helped guide us toward different sections of the menu based on what sounded good to us. The portions are amazing for the price. Everything is very affordable, especially considering how much food you get. My cousin ordered fajitas, I ordered carne guisada, and we've continued trying different dishes every time we go because the menu is so extensive. One thing that really stood out to me was how attentive they are. One time, I ordered a dish with ground beef that I personally didn't finish because where I'm from, we prepare that style of meat differently. When they noticed, they kindly asked if I didn't like it. I explained honestly that it just wasn't what I was used to, and they were extremely understanding and apologetic, even though it simply came down to different regional cooking styles. I appreciated that they cared enough to ask. The next time I went, I ordered burritos covered in lettuce, sour cream, and sauce. They actually remembered that I hadn't loved the ground beef before and suggested I try a different meat instead. They gave me one chicken and one beef burrito with the meat they recommended, and I absolutely LOVED it. It was so good that I literally came back the next day and ordered the same burritos again, this time both with the beef they had suggested. Another small thing that meant a lot to me: I gifted them a Mexican peso bill and asked if they'd actually put it up somewhere in the restaurant. They said yes, and they really did! This has become one of those places that feels comforting and familiar very quickly. I've already recommended it at my job site and invited friends to eat here with me. Everyone who has gone has been thrilled with the experience ranging from the staff, the cleanliness, the flavor, the huge portions, and the affordable prices. You can tell the people here genuinely care about their customers, and that's what keeps bringing us back.

Over the years, I've eaten inside many times and also called in takeout orders. Our orders have always been correct, even when we've added or left out ingredients, and we've never had to wait long for food or drinks. The portions are large for the prices, and you can't beat the prices. Of course, I am used to Charleston pricing which is generally more expensive than the Pee Dee. The shrimp taco salad is a great deal at around $10. It had the perfect balance of warm ingredients like shrimp, queso, and grilled vegetables, along with chilled ingredients like lettuce and tomatoes. I also love the crispy taco shell "bowl". Although it is a salad, it's certainly not healthy, but the vegetables give me a LITTLE less guilt. My husband generally orders "A little of everything", which is two plates of various items. He has never been disappointed in anything. Personally, the hot salsa is the perfect amount of spice for me and not super spicy. I usually don't eat the mild salsa, as it has zero heat. I'll keep visiting Zapata's when I visit my in-laws in Hartsville.

The prices are comparably better, the staff is friendly, and the food feels a lot lighter on my stomach than the brick that Mariachi's always seems to deliver. The people that work here are very friendly. My dad goes weekly, sometimes with a friend, and they ALWAYS remember them as well as what they order! Not all of them speak the clearest English, though, but I deem that a seal of authenticity! Don't see exactly what you want on the menu? Ask for it! I usually get a single chicken quesadilla with rice. The plate is always completely full and steaming hot when it reaches me; it's just the right amount of food. And for how much? Something like $4. You can't beat that! My dad usually gets the buffet, which has a bunch of different options. He and his friend even like their wings, which is surprising for a Mexican restaurant. The buffet also comes with a dessert item - sopapilla, a fried tortilla with cinnamon sugar, with optional honey to drizzle on top. If you ask, they will put a scoop of vanilla ice cream to finish it off! :) Their complimentary salsa is DELICIOUS, made fresh, and can vary in spiciness depending on the batch that day. The chips that come along with them are light and crispy. Best ones I've ever had. Overall, if you're a Lancaster resident, I'd recommend you give this place a try. You may just become a regular! EDIT: And to address the naysayers - let's remember here that we're talking about cheap Mexican food in Lancaster, SC. You're not going to get 5-star quality, but that doesn't mean it isn't tasty!
