Lunch on Thursday with a couple friends. We have been there multiple times. The chips came out warm and the salsa was fresh with a little heat. Our waiter made sure we didn't run out of salsa and chips while we were talking and waiting for our food. I ordered the Speedy Gonzalez with a hard shell beef taco, chicken enchilada and rice. We got our food in less than 10 minutes. It's one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in Richmond. Good quality and cheap. For the three of us with tip was $28. read more

Overall - 8.7/10 Food - 9/10, food was great. I had pollo chori with a side of chili relleno and my girlfriend had the chefs special. Food tasted fresh and all super flavorful. It was also done quite quickly which we could never complain about. Salsa brought to the table was not as good as we remembered it; however, good nonetheless. Pricing compared to most restaurants of this category is very good, with the food mentioned above it was around $30 before tip. Service - 10/10, server was very efficient, friendly, and attentive. Awesome service, nothing bad to say. Atmosphere - 7/10, nothing standout. Just your normal everyday restaurant, place was fairly clean but not spotless. The worst tacos I have ever had. Cold flour tortillas (I asked for corn) with dry steak and a small amount of raw, cold diced onion. No lettuce, tomato, Pico, salsa, cheese, guac, sour cream, or dressing of any kind for $13. Taco Bell is better than this. Absolutely wild. read more

Used to be my favorite, I think they have spread themselves too thin. Last time we made it to a table only to sit for a long time without being waited on. No chips and salsa nothing. We finally left without being waited on. This time stood at the door for about 15 minutes, then we were told we could sit at the bar. Server came quick, but as usual out of Negra Medelo and only had 3 Dos Equis. Because we sat at the bar we were not given menus. Did not want to ask as the staff was actually running to keep up. Was not full so I can only assume short staffed. Service was good, staff friendly as always. The chips were burnt and they do not even bother seasoning the "salsa" (canned tomatoes) anymore. I had heard this place was really good so I gave it a try. I was a bit disappointed. The place is massive with lots of seating, but the parking is not set up to accommodate that many patrons. First off, the drink order was wrong and one in our party waited quite a while to get the right drink. The food was very typical Mexican fair; nothing spectacular. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Richmond. It's very conveniently located, but the parking situation is pretty tough sometime. The menu is great, with so many options! I heard this place looks like a hole in the wall, but they say that's where you'll find the best food. My coworkers spoke highly of this place, so when they were taking orders, I knew I wanted to try the carnitas. I almost didn't get them because the picture online didn't make them look super good. However, NO regrets because they were delicious! It was a very generous serving (too much for one meal, but I ate it all anyway). The meat was juicy, tender on the inside, and just slightly crisp on the outside. It was very flavorful. I don't like refried beans so I just got extra rice (and queso just because). Super yummy! I didn't try the salsa but while the chips were good, they were a little stale. Overall, it was very tasty and I'd definitely go back! read more

Disclaimer: I'm from Northern California where Mexican Food standards are way higher. We Came in while visiting Richmond and had some Carne Asada Nachos and Cheese enchilada plate. Service was on point and quick. Enchiladas were Blah and are nuked as I can tell from tortilla texture,Bean and rice were par. We used to enjoy coming here but now they have enclosed the porch and continue to let people smoke out there. Okay, so I've eaten here a lot because I LOVE THE FOOD. It's probably the best Mexican food you can get in Richmond. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is for the following two stories. 1. I always order the same thing. Two GRILLED chicken quesadillas. The kind without vegetables. There are certain vegetables that I'm allergic to so I'd rather just go "no vegetables" than go through the hassle of asking for certain ones. ANYWAY. The grilled is supposed to come without vegetables in the first place, and the shredded with. My server asked me if I wanted vegetables and I said no, I just wanted the chicken, cheese, and tortilla. When he came back with the food...it was wrong. Which, don't get me wrong-mess ups happen. I told him "this is wrong, I wanted the grilled chicken without vegetables" then he TOLD ME "no ma'am. You wanted the shredded with vegetables". If I hadn't stopped him, my husband would have laid in on him. In the end, I got charged for the one with vegetables but didn't eat it because I very well could have died, but oh well. 2. I had just turned 21 and my husband and I were celebrating my birthday by having a drink and eating. I ordered a margarita and my husband a beer. Our IDs weren't checked. Most people wouldn't see that as a big deal, but I HATE underage drinking. As it was a warm day, we sat alone on the patio that looked like it hadn't been cleared of plates in two days. Not a big deal. They're busy. We were forgotten about, etc. when we asked for the check and the server brought it back he THREW it at my husband and ran out the door to get outside the patio because another customer was trying to punch him. what did he do to this customer? All in all, the food is great, just don't expect great service. read more

Kentucky is NOT known for having good Mexican food. Of all the places we've been to in two years since moving from Arizona, the food at Nuevo Vallarta has been the worst. I'll ignore the unpleasant waiter and just focus on the food. Tortilla chips tasted old and stale. Cheese dip was slightly thicker than milk. Carne Asada was as thin as beef jerky, no fat for flavor, over cooked (just short of jerky tough), and just a cheap cut of meat. The two pieces together was the size and thickness of a plain McDonald's burger patty. Beans were fine Salsa bland and very tomatoey The fajita chimichanga also used cheap meat and of the same cheap bulk-purchase stir fry quality you'd find at a buffet (no different than most other Kentucky Mexican restaurants we've visited) The decor inside was elaborately painted with bright colored scenery and cartoonish "brick" fresco. It was still bright and whimsical and pleasant. The table and booth seats were also brightly colored relief carved furnishings (table had glass on top to smooth the surface) BUT,... menu pages were torn out and slipped under the table glass for a "contactless" menu. The problem, besides the crumbs and mildew stained pages due to moisture getting in there, was that your fellow diners couldn't read the selections posted on the side where your facing companions are sitting. Good luck if you got the lunch menu pages during dinner time. Bad layout. Filth sandwiched between pages and glass. Mildew on pages. Yuck. We will not be returning. The food is just of the cheapest quality fried in a skillet. read more

OK so here's my review, the chips and salsa we're not the best. The chips came cold and the salsa was not that flavorful. I like a Roni or more peppery salsa and the salsa was chunky and bland. Ask for entrées... I ordered the chicken fajitas and my friend ordered the burrito California. Fajitas we're not bad however I'm not a fan of tomatoes in my fajitas although that is not the restaurant error. This is what my friend wants to say about the burrito: "the burrito was very big but it came with a lot of stuff inside like the rice and beans which I thought was gonna come on the outside and it was very messy" pricing is very reasonable and service was quick yet quiet. read more
