This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Richmond. Great for traditional Mexican food and also known for their true Mexican-style burritos and street tacos. They have a very wide selection of lunch and dinner options and it seems that each time that I try something new. My wife's go-to is the chicken chimichanga which never disappoints. For me,who knows what I'll order next ! From the Pollo Bandido (Grilled chicken strips covered in cheese sauce. Served with rice, beans, and tortillas), or the California Deluxe Chicken (Bed of rice topped with grilled chicken mixed with California vegetables, topped with cheese sauce), to the traditional burrito or taco salad. They also have a 3 Amigos which has a chicken chimichanga, taco, and a chili relennos. I always enjoy a side order of their fresh fried jalapeños and their guacamole is very tasty. Richmond has quite a few Mexican restaurants to choose from, but this one is our favorite. Friendly staff. Clean restaurant. Great prices. Never disappointed! read more

We came here when they first opened and hadn't been here in a long time. I'm glad we gave it another shot. The complimentary Chips and Salsa were excellent. I ordered the Luau Burrito. It was huge and very flavorful. My wife had the Enchiladas Supremas and our daughter had the Arroz Con Pollo. We will be back. read more

This restaurant has been my go-to fav for all the Texano dishes I have come to enjoy. Service is an issue and quality. In the last few months, the quality of food has declined rapidly. The salsa is water, if I order through a service instead of going in person, bags are sealed and food is constantly forgotten. The queso is great! Laloo pizza - peak! but the amount of food has declined while the price has increased. I guess I need a new fav. I gave so many chances but nothing is changing. The salsa was nothing more than colored liquid. This makes twice I have ordered online and last night was my last. $30+ down the drain. There are numerous types of these Mexican restaurants which are found in almost every town. Most stand out with good salsa and great services. The dishes are much the same. El Charro has a super staff who are very nice and pleasant. The table service was not below average After serving our food our waiter only checked on us 1 time. Took a while to get our check. I've experienced better service at other places. I've had better salsa in other Mexican restaurants of this type. Atmosphere was pleasant and the establishment was clean. I had fajitas which were very good, Wife had a taco along with my granddaughter. Chips were great. Expected more from the salsa. read more

Made a huge delivery order but could not find where to add guacamole so I called and asked if they could add a small cup on they refused to add it to the bill I explained my situation where my mother had been in hospital on life support and was just now able to eat and of all places she wanted to try there but the man said he didn't care he couldn't and wouldn't do it I paid almost 40 bucks for a fajita salad and he refused us a 1.00 or less cup of guacamole first and last order they get from me not very good place of business . We stopped in at El Charro on a whim during a family trip. We honestly didn't expect a lot. What we found is amazing food, reasonable prices, and stellar service. Nice Mexican joint right off of the highway. The decor is heavily day of the dead themes which brings a vibrant feel to the open air environment. The salsa was a little too watery for me. The chorizo fries may be the ultimate hangover food. This greasy goodness was loaded with cheese sauce and chorizo. I also had a beef and chicken southwest enchilada. I thought there could have been more flavor to both especially the chicken. After reading the reviews I probably should have went with a burrito, that all sound on point. read more

We enjoyed El Charro so much we ordered take out twice this weekend! Food was excellent. We ordered the JJ Burrito with steak and one with grilled chicken (comes with tater tots, bacon, cheese, and cheese sauce inside) one night and the California burrito with steak (comes with fries, guac, sour cream, cheese, and cheese sauce inside) and a side of beans another night. Would definitely order each of those again! We also really enjoyed their complimentary salsa, which was much more flavorful than other restaurants in town. Service was great. It was super easy to call in an order and pick up through the drive thru. Even though they were packed, we received our food quickly and without having to go inside. This is the best Mexican joint in Richmond. Family owned. Everyone is super nice; providing great service and great food. They have great salsa which is a must! Great frozen strawberry margarita's which is also a must! Nice atmosphere, good music.
